you could also try running the game, if it detects an update, it should then install it for you

I have tried right clicking the game but do not get the properties menu (i have steam in German so it should be "eigenschaften" I think.
I did find another menu where auto updates is activated though.
I also tried starting the game but did not get any messages about updated versions.

Could somebody tell me what exactly was changed in the TShips.pck? Just the Cargobay size of the Marlin? Thanks in advance

Steam no-go with the X3AP 2.5.1 update.

I have looked in my library and have changed the setting to "Always update my games" re-started steam but when i click on the AP game it just plays me the videos.
There is nowhere a download button to be seen anywhere.

only trouble since the steam change.

oh for the good old days where I could just download from egosoft site

can anyone help here ?

Steam updates the game automatically if you have auto update on (which you have just done). You may have to exit your steam client then run it again. Then when you click on the game icon, or start it from your library Steam should update the game then run it.

@ Snickly: One way to force any overdue update is to verify the gamefiles cache while online. Right-click on X3AP in the Steam Client list, select Properties from the menu pop-up, select the Local Files tab, then select verify ... You might have to stop and restart the Steam Client afterwards to get it downloading the update though.

Yes, just the cargobay size of the Marlin. It was increased from 305 units (M) to 750 units (L).

Not shure if this is the right place... but recently started a terran commander game and have now combat rank 17 and terran and atf rank 10...
still no new plot message?
Argons pretty much hate me, but Borons are at rank 4...
does any of those effect starting conditions for new terran plot?

did a search but could not find the starting conditions.

These are the requirements that are listed on Rougey's Site:

To trigger the Terran plot you will need to meet the following requirements:

- Started has an Terran Commander or Aldrin Adventurer,
- with a fight rank of Professional (or higher),
- and a Terran rank of Local Councillor (or higher),

I started off as an Argon in X3AP. Does this mean I have to start again as Terran commander to be able to play the new 2.5 mission ?
I am already well into the first AP misssions as I said as an Argon.

for the terran plot i think there is only 2 options, the terran commander and "the alderin explorer", or called something alike, not shure on the name... since i havnt unlocked it yet

there is info about it somewhere in this thread i think.

The other Terran start is called Aldran Adventurer. This starts places you with a good M3 class ship in the sector Aldrin. The ship is only poorly equipped and you have only a few thousands of credits on your account, therefor your ranks towards the other races are mostly neutral. So you can easily trade and do missions for them.
In contrast to this, the Terran Commander start places you in a Terran M6 with a good starting capital in Venus, but your ranks towards the other races are mostly negative.

If you just want to have a look at the Terran Plot, but want to play your other save along or if you don't want to start completely from scratch, I can offer you two savegames that directly put you in a position to start the plot:

Comment: The Terran Plot hasn't been started yet. With the given property it should be relative easy to complete it.

They shouldn't be, and even if they are then you can set the language at any time in the Steam Client (right-click on X3AP in the game list, Properties, Language tab).

As mentioned above, I play X* on "Not_So_Widely_Used" OSes (BSDs and suchlike ) with the help of Wine. I really wanted to update to AP 2.5.1 but since Steam doesn't work with the last Wine version anymore, I finally decided to bite the bullet and downgraded one of my boxes. This is not an easy task, mind you. Everything has to be compiled from source and takes hours for the OS and days for the software. The box in question sported +900 packages. After spending the best part of this weeks evenings in front of a terminal window, watching CLang compiling away happily, I had the system restored to the state it was in 6 months ago.

Boot FBSD 8, start Steam client.
Start X3AP.
Nothing . . .

Fire up Opera, enter Steampowered.com

Are you planing a Steam only future ?
I wouldn't.
I run a more or less successful shop and once relied on a single distributor.
When it went bust, it took me 6 yrs to recover.

Er, no they haven't. All the updates to X3TC are still there. Any X3TC patches that contain only Steam-specifc changes are, for obvious reasons, not available for download by other means, and they never have been. X3AP is, and always has been, Steam-only as far as updates are concerned.

As for whether you need to install Windows, Windows is the only supported platform for the game. I'm afraid we can't help you with any issues you may encounter running it on other platforms.
