I hoped they wouldn't do something like this... Achievements don't count for anything. If you cheat to get them nobody cares, it's just 1 less thing you can acomplish yourself. I'm saddened that i won't be able to get the achievements because i don't think i'll ever play vanilla, the game is just so much better with scripts.Belisarius wrote:Do you really think that the developers didn't think of this case and prepared the achievements system, so only vanilla players can achieve them?

Hey guys, do you know if the 2.6 patch will fix this issue?
Large Address Aware (LAA) problem under X3TC 2.5
We are few people experiencing it and is really a problem
Im going to use an unnofial patch to fix it, but I would like to see if we can get it officially since I would like to still have achievements....

aha thanks, and after updating from 2.5 to 2.6, will we still need to apply for manual patch again?CBJ wrote:The LAA flag was set in 2.1 and we had to remove it again for 2.5 as more people had problems with it set than without. The "unofficial" method of setting it won't prevent you from using achievements.
What about one option on X3:TC launcher thata allow users to check/unchek it? (like glow or other options)
Because now Im using boxed version, but If I use Steam version after 2.6 version is launched, It will be a hell more complex

Yes, you will need to re-apply it. Unfortunately there isn't a "launcher" as such; the start screen you see is part of the same EXE that runs the game, and LAA isn't something you can set from within an EXE. There are ways to solve the problem of needing to set the flag for people who are running the Steam version. Ironically Steam is also one of the reasons that supplying two different versions of the EXE file isn't as simple an option as it sounds!

I presume you mean from a technical perspective due to X3:TC being a homogeneous lump of code rather than a true modular architecture which would allow for the easy separation of the initial screen into a separate launcherCBJ wrote:Yes, you will need to re-apply it. just to offer a possibility, COD4 (call of duty 4: modern warfare) has different .exe files that are run depending on whether you want to play the single player or multiplayer game... selecting "run" from steam launches single player* but if you right-click then alongside "play single player", "view update news" etc. there's a "play multiplayer" option.CBJ wrote:Yes, you will need to re-apply it. So, should egosoft want to go down the route of offering LAA semi-officially, the option is there.
There are, of course, other reasons why they might not: it's an extra complication when troubleshooting (the number of configurations people might have would double), you'll end up with some people being able to have vastly more in-game objects than others, the root cause(s) of the problems were never tracked down etc. etc. (though I suspect the obfuscation of tages was responsible for at least some, and I also suspect the integration into steam was responsible for others)
*In the case of COD4, you can always launch the other .exe file directly from within the other one, but that's not important to the example... games which use an external program to configure certain options also work like this in steam; my point is, you can have multiple programs launchable.

I don't agree. The whole point of achievements is to have something to point at to prove what you've done, same as a trophey or an award certificate. That's why they are in a public location like Steam. But that's also why the rules for getting them must be uniform for everybody.ITFUncleDave wrote:I hoped they wouldn't do something like this... I know what you mean with the scripts, though. Achievements are neat and I'm happy to take part in this passive bragging technology but I'm not'a gonna trade my X-Wing in for it!
If all you want to do with achievements is see for yourself what you have achieved then you should be fine, though, right? Just look up what the achievements are then look at your own game stats. There might be a few achievements that are a bit too convoluted to figure out yourself (maybe something like "have 25 or more ships targetting your own ship at the same time") but I bet you'll know most of them right away.

So long as I can have my ships freely collect / deliver wares between stations without the exchange of any credits, anything else is just gravy!amtct wrote:Yep its a secret until you go to L3 forums and see the changelogs and the Bonus Pack contentLord_Dakier wrote: Whats going on in 2.6 by the way or is that secret stuff?

Mmh, i was thinking of something...
What is the difference between the allmighty "Soon" of our friends from Ego and the new version that appeared now : "Very soon" ? Does it have a mystical sense ? Does it mean "from now on to the infinite - 1 day" ? ... Well can someone tell if it will NOT be released on thuesday 13/04.
(they don't want to tell when it will be released but they can tell when it will not, no ?
Well i guess i will go for a walk...
