They haven't presented anything else about the rooms in the ship except for that loading bay with the two doors. Overall I had the impression that the demo only showed some simple content that was bug-free. The sector design of the demo was rather boring and not anything like the cool close-to-planet surface sectors we have seen in the trailers. Too many people just passed by without even knowing what was presented there. Egosoft would have done good, if they'd risked to show some more incomplete sectors that were a bit more stunning.Gupster wrote:Is there a restroom on-board the ship ? if not ( In Space no one can hear you scream)EuRoKa wrote:Yes, you can walk freely inside the ship! You can't walk inside the cockpit though only leave or enter it. If you're right outside the cockpit, there is a small room which would lead directly to the loading ramp if you were docked at a station. In this room are two doors. The left one leads back to the cockpit and the right one was not accessible, but it surely gives you a hint that there are more rooms to come like quarters, turrets and so on.biohazard15 wrote:2 Night Nord

1) In demo, can you walk freely inside Skunk? Or it's an auto-transition between cockpit and station dock?

the thing that I remember from x2's character animations is how wooden the eyes looked, and how stiff the animation was. The arm would move. then it would stop. Then the head would turn. Then it would stop. Then the eyes would move. Then stop. Then they would start talking. Walking was a similar affair, very disjointed, wooden, and just, well, crap. TBH, some of the worst character animation I have ever seen in a "good" game.
Hopefully, egosoft has picked up their game. From what I have seen so far however, they have not. Hopefully it doesn't break the game too badly.

The soundtrack you get when pre-ordering from the Egosoft shop includes a few soundbites from your co-pilot. In one of them she mentions technical problems with the Albion Skunks toilets, so I assume the ship will include at least one.Gupster wrote: Is there a restroom on-board the ship ? if not ( In Space no one can hear you scream)

Why else do you think its called the Skunk?gsl wrote:The soundtrack you get when pre-ordering from the Egosoft shop includes a few soundbites from your co-pilot. 1 : in X3, i still die from collisions with my springblossom. either i'm looking at something else like the starmap, or an automated message pops-up, resulting me in ramming onto that station. sometimes i can drift enough to avoid the fatal collision within the splitsecond. but if i touch it, or any cap ship, i die.nemesis1982 wrote:
Now back on topic. Thanks Wana. Really appreciate the updates.
A few questions:
1- You say the ship is agile. But does it feel overly agile or just right?
2- How naturally does conversing with NPCs feel? Just curious.
3- Am I correct in assuming you find the difficulty a bit lacking?
4- Can you clarify the dark mechanics comment? DIdn't get it.
In X:R, even on interception path full speed to the cap ship, i was able to avoid it before any collision. same for station, the ship is, IMHO, too much agile for its size, maybe like an M5 or M4. But turn Turn per Minute is more like an M6.
Note : engaging turbo booster almost prevent you to make any turn.
2 : for what i saw and heard (don't forget it's an alpha/beta demo and even with headset i had difficulty to concentrate) i had a mass-effect feeling.
One good answer, other are "useless". undubbed, text is rather small. Icons are over everyone to know who are they from distance, but i had no manual with me so...
So how naturally is it ? well, more than X3. more tedious also (you have to run everywhere to find them, like in other FPS). As i said, it's like a Mass-Effect free roam. I'm not sure i'll enjoy it in the long run. But it's a welcome change in X.
for general discussion, there are probabilities that the "bonus" texts are like "where is the nearest shipyard" chat in X3. it's there, but... you don't use it.
3 : as i said, i was walking in the station, while the scripted mission ran outside. and even if the capship was not destroyed within 10mn, i think we were winning (according radio chats)
moreover, i had no trouble killing escorts. you also can spam the capship with everything you have to instakill it. (rockets, missiles...)
ramming it didn't killed me either

4 : all we had was 10mn (let's say 12 with the tutorial) and a printed paper on the wall for basics command. (and when i say basics, i mean it)
like i tried for a while to dock with the "T" key (marked as interact) hoping to prompt me the docking option but it seems the radial menu is only relevant to drones and sabotage control. i had to select the docking bay, close enough to have this menu "dock" prompting.
all i can say, is this demo is clearly here to show you the combat mode. nothing else is explained and when you try to explore on your own, the game allows you to do it, but won't help you. (frozen controls while chating, teleportation between the end of the tutorial and the start of the mission and much more)
it's very hard, even knowing X serie, how to evolve in this world. (and stop spamming the C key, should be the first line of the manual, there is NO Communication mode)
It's a complex game, that's for sure. As complicated, well, we'll see that in 3 months)
-------
- About the ecliptic auto-rolling, i had no problem at all with this. it gathers the best of two worlds : Eve-online and X3. you still can roll like you want, and stay oritented after your looping.
- Yes a part of the game is lagging. (usually when you're close enough to the station and turning toward the asteroid field.) Apart that, it's pretty fluid.
- The FP(S) part looks very promising. it has a strong base. add some aliens and a machine gun and there you go, welcome to Doom 3
i feel less excited than August 9 2013, but X:R is on my shopping list for sure.

According to other sources it is called the skunk because when you first fly it at the beginning of the game it stinks as in ( not very well equipped and very old and outdated) So you thought it was called the Skunk because the restroom was dirty ?DaMuncha wrote:Why else do you think its called the Skunk?gsl wrote:The soundtrack you get when pre-ordering from the Egosoft shop includes a few soundbites from your co-pilot. The whole world should introduce a gloabal-time btw, so that it is the same time at the same time on the whole world
Only Ubisoft and EA seem to make livestreams.

I think with last year's presentation they/somebody uploaded it to YouTube afterwards, so we can be hopeful.dougeye wrote:is there a live feed at all?

By the way, another important information that was confirmed on Gamescom: The models of the ship and the appearance of the NPCs can be modified quite easily as well as pretty much everything else.
I think it is good, if Egosoft concentrates on more important game features and instead let modders design the NPCs.
