19 hours to install...dartimos wrote:Great news for those who don't want to give Steam money. You do need to install the Steam client. Once you do, on the top there are five menus. Click Games -> Activate a Product on Steam...
You will then need to find the CD key given to you.
Here's the bad news:
You will need to fresh install (it won't delete or overwrite your old copy.

Knew there was a reason I stuck to DVD...

Just a quick question (No I can not wait till the 15th
. Ok technically I can but I don't want to :'( )
What exactly is X3:Albion built on? Is this like a few missions built on venerable (read old) X3 engine? orr...? If so are there any major changes?
(Or is this like an X3 port to the newer engine?)

, was a surprise! It looks really good. I'im guessing rebirth will be delayed to next year now (thought it was due end of this year). However the trouble is for me is getting a copy:
- None of my games are steam (but DVD's).. and:
- I never got the super-box (because I got nearly every X-Game),
So for me it makes very tricky getting a copy. I guess I got to wait until next year to see any of it. Oh well.... if anyone wants to send me types/ folder of it, I might be able to make a site or something for it.

I did answer the question about X3TC earlier: yes, you will require an install of X3TC. A clean one would probably be better than a... dirty one. Regarding the Bonus Pack, we will be issuing a new Bonus Pack for X3AP which includes everything in the old one and a few additions.Mightysword wrote:Since we haven't get the answer so I'll ask again. Will this require a "clean" install of X3TC and will the bonus pack be combatible?
It's based on the same underlying engine as X3TC, but it's a lot more than just a few new missions.s9ilent wrote:What exactly is X3:Albion built on? Is this like a few missions built on venerable (read old) X3 engine? orr...? If so are there any major changes?

So that mean ill have to pay an 'add-on' price? as I dont have any credit details on steam nor really want to. I dont have credit details on the PSN store that used a lot in the past (I use vouches).Cycrow wrote:you can register a dvd copy of TC to use on steam.
Its a good idea, just very weird way to do methinks, why wasnt it done as a standard new release? Its not that dont want to get a copy, just dont know how I will. Steam release is not for me.

Re: Xmas Surprise - Egosoft Announces New X3 Game
Simple question: will this boxed retail version work without Steam ?X2-Illuminatus wrote:A boxed retail version of X3: Albion Prelude will also be available for the PC early in 2012

Thanks CBJ, I know you said we need a TC install, just tried to clarify the clean part. Since some expack works within their own directory and executable so a dirty main game doesn't effect in that case.CBJ wrote:I did answer the question about X3TC earlier: yes, you will require an install of X3TC. I just don't want to lose the modded save I have about 100+ hours on ... here hoping the Mod manager won't fail me ... but I remember installing a few mod as false patch so the prospect doesn;t look too bright

Did you actually read the press release? A retail boxed version will be available in January. If you don't want to use a digital distribution platform, then you have to wait for them to press DVDs and ship them to stores.Skinmeister wrote:I remember years ago, when X3 first went on Steam, that I any many other were against it. We were afraid that this very thing would happen in the future, that there would be Steam-exclusive content, but Egosoft promised that this would never happen.
The Steam summer sale DLC was bad enough, but now those who can't or won't use Steam will miss out on an entire game?
Ridiculous.

Why not? X3:TC only is RECOMENDED playing with Steam, not required.henkbein wrote:Simple question: will this boxed retail version work without Steam ?X2-Illuminatus wrote:A boxed retail version of X3: Albion Prelude will also be available for the PC early in 2012

Please answer this question. I have TC and this new game installed, and one day in the morning I wake up and decided to play the OLD X3:TC as it was before this release, I am able to do it without needing to reinstall again, clean installation without this new expansion???
If reply is YES, then, to make things clear:
-X3: reunion PART 1 (independent game)
-X3: Terran Conflict PART 2(independent game)
-X3: Albion PART 3 and final (another independet game)
Is that it? BEcause I though yes, but then seems we need X3:Tc so Im confused if this will "Break" the current X3: Tc universe same as cataclism in WoW break the old world.

I hope they work independently, cause i havent fully finished TC and would prefer not to have to re-instal it to do soN4N wrote:Oh hell, im confused now.CBJ wrote:I did answer the question about X3TC earlier: yes, you will require an install of X3TC.
