Oooh, pictures :o :D

So are we moving the HQ over to the Griffon? (at least for a short trial run  )

Oh and congrats on stomping those bugs :)

Oooh, pictures
Yeah, with my new internet thingydoodad the upload time for pics isn't as obscenely long, so the screenies are back.

Not exactly... I was thinking of actually having both frigates fly around together, the Griffon carrying a wing of AI fighters (of course). So, want to fly a Griffon? :D

(Sorry ATJ, Pyren/Snowship's been around longer. So, he gets first pick.)

That doesn't bother me since I'm not in this yet. I'm waiting at the patrol base or defense station (too many Terran stations with similar names) in the Asteroid Belt. Of course, as long as I'm put to use in this I'll be happy

Anyway, I have spent this entire weekend running around doing Stuff. I haven't had time to sleep so am incredibly tired and in no condition to be attempting to type anything up. Sorry. :( [/quote]

Eh, sorry people. Kinda left you for a couple of weeks there. If there's anyone still watching after that, I'll be doing three chapters over this week to compensate.

Chapter 20: The Homicidal Robot Space Pinatas, take 1

Well, I have a light carrier. Huzzah to that. Now I need to scour the Universe for its sizable compliment of flak cannons, so I put a second hand Falcon Hauler onboard the Griffon, search my trader fleet for anyone who's near to a shield factory or equipment dock to scrape together some 1GJ shields and a jumpdrive, and install all the stuff into the Griffon, which I send to search for guns.

Now I'm far from skint. Forty, fifty million credits. But in order to move up in the Universe I'll need more - a frigate's all well and good, but it's not impressive. More practical to fly than a destroyer but with so much less of an impact.

I've been eyeing up the new-and-improved Python, another ship which was tweaked by Cadius shipbuilding, which has very meaty laser arrays now (9 cannons in the main and 8 cannon broadsides) and flak compatibility. Its price has also been cut to a more affordable 76Mcr. Nice, but I was thinking...

What about a proper homebase? The Terrans have a shipyard complex for sale which is superior in most ways to the outdated (but famous) Bala Gi headquarters complex, along with being pretty cheap, at only 82Mcr. I also have a Terran Mobile Mining Base ship docked at The Moon which I'd bought ages ago and forgotten about, probably meant for use as a more capacious transporter.

Anyway, I don't have enough for either of those dream purchases so I need to find work. How about Zyarth's Dominion? As much as I hate the family, the Xenon have been very active recently and I'd rather have access to the supershipyard they have there. One quick jump later...

And I'm there. Sadly there aren't any Xenon invasions planned for now, but I decide to go on a scouting trip into X598. Just to look around, I promise Pyren (who noticed the course change and came to see where we were going).

At the gate, I'm ambushed by a Q, which greets me by shoving Adv.PPC fire in my face which I fortunately avoid. I respond in kind with a volley of IBL fire, which cripples its shields, leaving the hull exposed to my PALCs. The Xenon frigate goes down and I'm still at 90% shield integrity, having been hit with smaller weapons fire as I attacked.

When the Q goes up, loads of weapons spill from the wreck - about 5 million credits' worth in fact, mostly in the form of bulky PPCs to my annoyance. After hoovering up the worthwhile stuff I move further into the sector.

And meet another Q, which puts up more of a fight and nails me with an Adv.PPC. Where do they get these things? They're only produced by one company, who have one station and probably don't trade with Xenon! That said, it is a Teladi managed company... Anyway, this Q is equally generous with its ordnance and I pick up another 3Mcr of stuff.

While my cargo bay is starting to get full, I decide to try my luck and go for the through-sector into Grand Exchange. Good thing I do - a K is lurking next to the South gate which I kill pretty easily by parking at the edge of my IBLs' range and bombarding it, using my rotational thrusters and strafe drive to avoid the return fire.

And guess what? Once again, the sector is littered with expensive weaponry. I even have to boot some of my missile defence mosquitos out of the hatch to make room for the swag.

By the end of my 'scouting foray' I'm carrying about 15Mcr worth of excess weaponry, waiting to be sold. Perfectly exemplifying that with risk comes reward and that the Xenon are in fact homicidal robot space pinatas.

Now I need somewhere to offload this stuff...

Just had the best time I think I ever had in TC - with liberal use of the script editor and a playlist of epic tunage, I cleansed the X universe of hostile races with a Nagoya missile M2. 'Twas awesome, and I wish I could have recorded it... :D

Anyway, that wasn't what anybody's here for.

Chapter 21: Ooops... ALTERNATIVELY, Homicidal Robot Space Pinatas, Take 2.

I jump to the nearest EQ dock to drop off all the goodies I'd gathered in the Xenon sector, then, spurred on by my victory -

am interrupted by a communication spam from an Argon identifying himself as 'Justin' who wanted to join my crew, the first one apparently dating back several months! His last stated position was the Mars shipyard so I ping back an apology and head on over to pick him up. When he's onboard I show him to his cabin and tell him to think about what ship he wants.

- Now, as I was saying, spurred on by my victory I gather my now bolstered crew together to tell them that following the success in X598 I intend to drop in on X472 for extra glory and loot. There're a few rumblings of apprehension, but I get the go ahead from them to go molest the unholy machines/evil robots some more.

Jumpdrive activated, and I'm in. Apparently the Xenon still love gatecamping as I'm assaulted by Adv PPC from another gatecamping Q, this time with worrying success, bringing me down to a decidedly unhealthy 10% shield integrity. One more hit and I'm screwed...

So, some tactics are required? How interesting. I turn towards the sector planet and hit the turbo booster, bringing my speed to maximum in less than a second, no doubt straining the reactor and causing the ship's mechanic to go crazy.

Anyway, it works and I end up fleeing (ugh, I hate to say it) across the sector, with three Qs and a K trailing behind. To make matters worse, now that the Q which greeted me has managed to get a bead again, it and its two brethren are barraging me with PPC fire.

Which I can't take because my shields are still only at 25% and taking the odd hit from quicker fighters. Still, I'm getting damage on the Qs from my PALCs and it's nothing negligible - by the time I'm back at a relatively safe 50% one of the Qs is at 20% shields, so I brake (presumably once again to the dismay of the engineer) and fire a few volleys of IBL at the weakened frigate to kill it off.

I take a few PPC hits again and am back in the same position again, sans one Q on my tail, so I use the same tactic to finish off the wolfpack of frigates. Still no hull damage, time for the big boy.

[ external image ]

The PALCs soften it up, then I go in for the kill with IBLs. Nae problemo.

Now that I've killed most of the sectors dangerous occupants, I go and attack the stations, getting some nice holiday photos while I'm at it:

So, after my messing around with the onboard camera drones is over, I finish the stations with my IBLs and go to set up our new headquarters. We need to find a name... A name to unite the peoples of the Universe against their true foes.

And that name should be... Eh.

Err. I dunno. Anyone else got an idea?

Ships free for Justin to fly:
Griffon. Now fully armed. Limited fighter wing atm - I just spent 80Mcr on a *spoiler*.
Pretty much any buyable fighter. This includes the ATF ones.
Pretty much any buyable corvette apart from the Heavy Hydra. This inludes the ATF ones.
Any buyable freighter you wish to name.
Any bomber you wish to name, but it'll be a while before you'll have anything to launch. There's a cool 'M3B' called the Falchion in the Cadius shippack which trades cargo space for the ability to dock at carriers.

ooh, more pretty pictures :D
err, what sector is the PHQ being setup in?
and as for a name.... Darkhold (err, no. but cookie if someone gets it)
Bastion of Freedom?
Not good I know, but most names that some to mind are more for pirate clans HQ than legit upstanding citizens

All in good time, I assure you. It's not quite a PHQ either.

Bastion of Freedom is cool, not quite what I'm working for though. Easily adapted though - thanks for that.

As for the pictures, I thought I'd used thumbnails... This looks better though. I think it's within forum rules isn't it?

The best way to dismantle a defective genocidal computer is to blow it to bits

As for the long wait, it doesn't bother me, and the one thing I can't resist is sending some insane computers to the scrap heap. I say, DESTROY THEM ALL  Nice pictures by the way

As for what ship I'll fly, it doesn't matter unless you find the Superior (last mentioned around 2-4 weeks ago)

I got bored waiting for the next update (don't know when it's going to be updated next  ), decided to read the last chapter or two, and FINALLY noticed this. Exactly what would it be if it isn't a PHQ? And should we expect it to be set up in Xenon/ Pirate sectors or somewhere else? The Hub, perhaps?

Yeah, sorry man, been sort of hectic on this end - lots of exams, not much playing time. I can't update now because I've got to go out, but I'll do it later, honest. Now I've got a bit of a break I'll try and do 1 a week again, but no promises.

Your questions will be answered....

....

...

..

.

Now. And not it's not a military outpost, but it is near a Xenon sector...

Chapter 22: All I've been doing is missions for God knows how long, so all I have to show you is this lousy...

[ external image ]

Terran-designed shipyard complex. All the perks of a normal HQ station, but with faster-running and more efficient production lines, meaning I can both reverse engineer and construct ships faster and cheaper than the old Bala Gi HQ complex.

It's in the Unknown sector West of X534, where nobody can disturb us and there're loads of free mineral resources. I've already got some of my caps up there for REing - a lucky Xenon P finished a while ago and there's a Xenon LX on the go at the moment. I was thinking of building patrols of these guys 'cos the P's so dang cheap and the LX is so awesome.

I'll need materials first though, so I'll get planning some complexes. Maybe I'll take a looksie at Yaki space - they don't hate me too much and I like their no-nonsense style as opposed to my own government's cowardly bullying of the Boron... Even though they're Pirates...

Anyway, that's for later.

I'm a touch out of pocket after my purchase, having fallen below 10Mcr, so I'll do a fre missions, get a couple of hundred million credits, then get those TLs I have lying around to build us some infrastructure - I have become tired of waiting for the Split to realise their folly and intend to strike out truly alone - to build an entity transcending races.

And I'll need all the help I can get to fulfil that.

Property: the same ships, but about 59Mcr now. Moar grinding needed. :(
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Well, sorry for the lame chapter, but literally all I've been doing for about five game hours is grinding for cash, and that's all the time I've been able to scrape together. Still, it's a token effort I suppose.

Remember this happened in my other DiDs? There was a while when all I did was boring stuff. I'll just let you know: this one'll go out more like my first one - in a blaze of -- oh wait I got gatecrashed... I mean how I INTENDED my first one to go out.

:o Impressive. What mod is this from? and why not save it for the Hub? Still, close proximity to Xenon space means there's going to be a lot of fun smashing genocidal AIs.

(forgive me for randomly responding to this after so long) It's not "running away". It's called a "tactical withdrawal" or a "retreat from hopeless odds". Either way, remember that "he who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day"

The NPC bailing script seems to have a capital bailing feature. It's set on really low but I actually have like three captured Pirate M6es from assassination and station defence missions along with the P. I haven't even seen any bigger ships bail yet, so it seems it'll be a while before I'm capturing capitals.

What mod is this from?
Cadius' ship/station pack. Actually, that reminds me. I'll have to post pics of all the Cadius ships in my fleet so you know what they look like.
