My take on 1.4

Post by BDStyle »

Ok i know there is a thread for 1.4 but i wish to take my time to say...

THANK YOU EGOSOFT

This patch has solved every technical issue i have with the graphics engine... not only do i have a stable playable framerate.. i have all the settings on FULL on a bog standard fx6600.

I now see the game the way it was meant to be seen.

Little details so far that i've noticed sorted.

-The tips are no messages that appear in the comms, not invasive up in your face on the screen.

-Weapons now only show on ship if they are fitted.. only 2 weapons fitted and only 2 will show.

-All weapons fire smoothly with no slowdown as soon as you pull the trigger.

-Asteroids don't bother me anymore fullstop.

There is much more, I am actually stunned. This game is now what i want it to be graphics wise and NOW i am willing to spend y time... no not just willing... eager to spend my time once again in the X universe.

There are still hurdles to cross but i have no problems in adding my little bit of support to the X project as a whole now. I can't wait to see what happens to the BBS and hope its had the attention this patch has recieved.

My defining point of sheer bliss...

Loading the Battle of getsu fune (a pivotal moment in my X universe) and SEEING it.. the laser fire, criss crossing across space. The stations shadows moving across ships as you float past them, meh.. rear end licking aside now.

It still needs serious ingame additions to destroy the 'its x2 in a gorgeous shell' feeling but I'm now looking forward to it once more :)

I'm now off in game.. do not disturb is up and the phone is off the hook lol.

I was holding out on buying this game until a solid build came out... and Dammit, I have to buy it now!! I've got 3 papers due in the next week... yet I'm forced to go and play X3. I can't wait to play it though.

Good work Egosoft.

Great Patch - Great detail and runs as smooth as silk - Started the game from scratch - I was going to give it a good 95%

Then I flew into Queen's Space where there is a nice starfield with a greenish tint and beautiful whispy clouds floating about. After flying a short distance into the sector I realised that we still have those ridiculous phantom asteroids/factories etc that appear out of nowhere, just like someone turning off a cloaking device. Spoils the game no-end when in these phantom sectors. Score now 85%.

And before you start suggesting it - NO I do not want to use scripts to completely remove the gaseous nature of a lot of the sectors, I like the gas clouds (but not the phantom elements in them). I play the game My way, you play it Your way.

Edited: I meant Queen's Space and not Rolk's Drift & Revised score to 85% from 60% (It was a bit harsh of me) sorry

It seems people are liking the new patch,.... I'm experiencing quick stalls in gameplay while engaging seta and grey triangles flash onscreen(usually while turning) every once and awhile

Great Patch... Went from V1.21 to V1.4 upgrade without a hitch and no problems with previous saved games. Now that the programmers are looking for something to do, one thing I have noticed is that I can sell certain items at the Equipment Docks such as APAC and BPACs without the station registering that any was sold. I off-loaded several hundred of each type during one visit. Got paid for them which is nice, but the station shows zero available for sale. Other items still sell with a max limit bought being reached so it's a sporatic glitch. Other than that Extremely minor flaw, I know this game will last me thru the summer with many nights of empier building enjoyment. Thanks again for giving us all an outstanding and beautiful 'Universe' to play in !!!! :D

I was just checking my inbox and I so news letter from EGOSOFT. Thanks vary much for new patch. I had a very hard day today. I am also developer (financial softer developer) and today I was faced with selfish kind of customer that doesn’t have slightest appreciation for my work.

That reminded me that I am your customer and that would be nice to say THANK YOU to all you hard working guys in EGOSOFT.

PS: Only complain that I have is that you guys picked up worst possible moment to release new patch. The Elder Scrolls IV (Oblivion) is out next week.

(Sorry for my bad English)

Cheers,
Igor

Much as Egosoft have done with the new 1.4 patch, Performance issues fixed etc.

I for one are probably gonna go back to 1.3.
My reasons are based entirely on the playing style I adopted in 1.3.

I won't cheat to get loads of money, And thought I had found quite a lucrative way of getting cash, but with 1.4 that is definately over with.

I had been taking on J's and K's with my Nova and 9x MD, But they are almost impossible to get close to now, Also I was getting a J or K to follow my elephant and shoot my 2x BPPC from the rear turret, Since it was'nt until the distance was about 4km, that the J or K started to shoot, But now as soon as 7km is reached, The J or K bathes me in GPPC fire, which is vertually impossible to avoid, especially in an elephant.

So ok, Thx! to Egosoft for the fixes and time they spent on the patch.

But its kinda ruined my game.

Not to mention that Khaak clusters are now a suicide run in a Nova, unless you can get the fighter first with a missile.

Ho! Hum! such is life!

My NoFog mod keeps the gaseous fog but increases the display distance of all sectors to 55KM. So u get to keep ur fog, but u don't suffer from ghostly apparitions (unless u can see stuff appearing 55KM out!). :)

Unfortunately since my mod makes every sector display stuff from 55KM out, those sectors with lots of stuff (eg Xenon sectors, Ore Belt, etc. we're talking about displaying every object in a 55KM radius from u!) might impact ur performance.

If u need such a mod, PM me.

I'm not as happy as I was yesterday.

I note the load time when jumping has increased significantly to the "I wonder if the computer has fozen" stage, with just a black screen. Not good enough.

I left X3 running all day today to see what would happen.

With the exception of 3 ships, all ships left in space, either idle or task commanded, were destroyed. Of these, 1 was destroyed by the complex hub, indicating the auto-pillok is still a problem. The rest were destroyed for no apparent reason. Ship was destroyed in sector. period. Not good enough.

The exceptions were my personal M6, parked near my hub, in my home sector protected by 200 lasertowers. My Mammoth, parked in said lasertower field, and my ex-UT being used to sell meatsteaks, which reported being attacked 5 times by specifically mentioned ships including ID, from which it escaped each time.

Either the patch has made the universe significantly more dangerous, or the god-engine is truely amok, or reporting of ship deaths isnt working properly. Whatever, I'm not as happy as I was yesterday.

Nothing lost, I expected to reload anyway, but wasnt expecting the devestation I found, particularly with no idea as to why.

Unlikely to be that big a number.

In 1.3, it was about 1 game day that they appeared, or at least I noticed them the first time. While my current (just resumed) game is day 5 and my sectors are heavily fortified, anything earlier than that would be impossible to defend.
Well I started over in 1.4 and I now have played 8:34 hour. I undocked from the tradingdock in Home of Opportunity whean a Kha'ak fleet jumped in right in front of me (scared the shit out of me) I managed to destroy 2 clusters in my Pirate Buster (2x APSG, nice!!) but I couldn't outrun that destroyer... :(

BTW Egosoft nice job with 1.4, now some more BBS missions etc and it will be a very good game!

edit; on 1000% SETA the game freezes for a split second, then 10 seconds it runs smooth, then it freezes again etc...?

This has always been in the game, and in X2 as well. It only works for the player, ST/UT won't exploit it, neither will the npc traders, but it gives you a place to offload your spoils after a long and profitable fight ;)

I installed the 1.4 patch last night & just had to post that it's a significant improvement.

Gigabyte NX7800GT + Athlon 643500+, both OC'd, settings as follows:-
AA X 4
AF X 16
Shadow High
Textures High
Glow enabled
The other three check boxes checked

Frame rates as follows:-

Savage Spur FPS
Ave 40
Min 35
Max 46

Argon Prime FPS
Ave 20
Min 17
Max 28

Ore Belt FPS
Ave 25
Min 21
Max 45

Xenon 534 with 2J 1K 15L 3N
Ave 25/14 in battle
Min 21
Max 42

Bluish Snout FPS
Ave 42/25 in battle
Max 47/35
Min 30/20

Anything over 25FPS is not needed as 25FPS is what european TV's work at.

The graphics are excelent. In my nova, I pointed my ship towards a planet, but off the horizon by about 5 degrees & rolled the ship. The reflections & shadows were superb !

I sort of agree with you that the "phantom objects" thing is a bit silly, but that's worth 35%?!?

Good lord, what makes up the other 60%?

This game is evil! :)

it's far too good.

My only wish is that it had small-player online play... would be cool to share/fight over the x-universe with a few friends :)

Bit too big a thing to be in a patch/expansion though - maybe X4?
