ONE: The GALAXIUS PROJECT
The Galaxius Class Assault Cruiser is a design that defies the very nature of combat spacecraft. It incorporates into the design, aspects from multiple classes of ship. Most noted of these, were the institution of Battleship, and Carrier combination designs. Added to this was the speed and manueverability of a light frigate.
Galaxius was designed to meet several factors.
It had to be fast enough to outrun all known ships.
It had to be able to deploy to any area within a fifty thousand lightyear radius within' seventy-two hours.
It had to out manuever vessels less than half her size.
It had to be able to single handedly, through use of any tactics or weapons available, engage a fleet sized force of 100 Supercapital Ships, up to a thousand capital ships... and their escorting forces and fighters.
And it must be able to operate independent of of any and all support.
The Galaxius handles all requirements quite well.
The mission statement for the GALAXIUS is as follows.
"To provide a supreme command pressence and unmistakable combat superiority in a conflict theatre while maintaining the ability to deploy to a crisis area within a timely manner and serve as a staging point for a small contingent of support craft and as a platform for command/control of a fleet or sector."
The project uses numerous radical technologies and even some that were still technically theoretical. It offers a powerful pressence wherever it goes.
The combination of tactical and strategic combat cababilities give the vessel a wide range or responses to almost any threat.
TWO: Ship Structure and Design.
Overall, the vessel was designed to be, simple, but elegant. Description sees the ship as a dagger-shaped vessel, with a large conning tower floating above the mass of the vessel. The hull's shapes base on many triangular patterns, as well as rounded patterns. The only hard square angles in the hull are mainly located on the conning tower and parts of the leading and trailing edges of the 'wings' of the ship. She is three thousand, seventy feet long. One thousand feet wide at the 'wings'. And at the highest point, which is from the bottom of the vessel to the top of the conning tower, she stands a majestic five-hundred feet high.
The superstructure is composed up of a skeletal framework of immensely strong crystal titanium II framing bulkheads. Each framing bulkhead is actually a hollow crystal titanium II wall or tube, filled with a combination of aluminium links that are spaced apart to react as shock absorbers, and an elastic carbon composite. In several places, much of the framing network comes together into what is known as a 'shock node'... where any impact force that's been traveling through the framework, can be easily distributed back out across the entire vessel, reducing the risk of catastrophic hull buckling in the event of a collision.
The ship has forty-five decks, with a simple yet efficient turbolift network traveling through them. Each deck is eleven feet tall. Nine feet of each deck is physical living/working area, while two feet of it are for the 'between deck' accesses, such as deck plating, power networking, computer networking, and life-support networking.
THREE: Power Systems.
Among the most important feature of this ship, is the power system that makes it tick. Galaxius has two main reactor core systems.
The main core, is what is known as the Zeropoint Reactor. This reactor taps the energy inherrent in the very fabric of space itself, and pipes it off to all the ship's systems. This system is non-volatile when compaired to other power systems and is not a danger of exploding if damaged. There are two cores onboard the Galaxius, the primary core, and the secondary core, which is located further aft. Asside from the main cores, the ship has eight small fusion reactor cores to provide auxillary power should both mains go down. Although major power eating systems, such ass hyperjump systems and major weapons systems won't function without MASSIVE power supplies, the fusion cores can keep the ship fully functional and self sufficient as long as hydrogen can be located and stored.
In the most desperate of situations, where even the eight widely spaced fusion cores are inoperable, life support and critical systems can be sustained with the onboard fuel cells, and solar panels that dot certain areas of the hull.
-Normal Reactor Operations
Under Normal Flight Circumstances (NFC), the primary core is kept online unless under maintinence, where the secondary core is then brought online. The primary core provides more than enough power to operate the entire ship at all times of regular flight. The secondary core is kept on ready standby however, in the case of going into Combat Alert Status, or in the event of a sudden primary failure.
-Combat Mode Reactor Operations
In a combat situation, the ship needs every last joul of power it can muster to fight anything from one ship, to an entire fleet. One reactor pipes all energy to regular systems and engines, while the second sends all power to the strategic and tactical systems. This allows the ship to gain the power advantage in weapons over anything it comes into combat with. In combat situations, the fusion cores are kept at a warm standby, however are not up at volatile levels that could cause a major issue if they were to take damage.
-Catastrophic Emergency Reactor Operations.
In the event of a terminal core failure of the two main cores. There is still the risk of the energy left in the core to be hazzardous. However, in situations where the core may become breached, an emergency venting system failsafe automatically dumps the core contents into the engine system. The core dump is not computer controlled, but power controled through the use of a simplistic force-field application. As long as the core is functioning correctly, it self powers a force field which keeps the energy from venting. However, upon core failure or damage, the forcefield would instantly collapse, thereby venting any leftover core energy directly into the engine system to prevent possible radiation contamination or large discharges into the ship. Once deenergized, the core is harmless. Because the field is self powered, the strength of the field is ALWAYS strong enough to prevent energy leaks. Field strength is directly proportional to reactor output.
Fusion reactors pose a greater risk however. Fusions are brought to hot standby whenever one of the main cores shut down or go into a core dump. Once at hot standby, they can pose a risk to the ship as potential fusion bombs if they become unstable or overloaded. Therefor they are linked to both computer, and manual ejection systems. If the computer system cannot keep a reactor stablized after it reaches a certain point, it gets ejected from the ship VIA a solid propellant booster. In situations where reactor ejection cannot be computer controlled. The booster can be fired by a simple electric spark. Once fired, the booster cannot be stopped, and the core will launch from the ship and quickly be pushed to a safe distance before it can go critical. In situations where the fusion core or booster may become damaged, the booster is designed to ignite and launch because it took the battledamage. This prevents an ejection failure due to system damage.
-Low Power, or Critical Power Emergency Operations
In the event that both ZP cores, and all eight fusion cores are down, the emergency power system from the fuel cells and solar panels prvide power only for critical life support and communication systems. Engines are taken offline, weapons are useless, and shields are a joke. At this point more than likely, half the crew may be dead, and the ship cannot fly under its own power. In this situation, any available engineers would be trying to either bring a fusion core back online, or get the main cores back online as soon as possible. If the docking bay is in tact, a shuttle would be dispatched to locate a possible tow ship, or to jump to the nearest friendly or neutral base or planet for assistance.
FOUR: Engines
As an interstellar spacecraft. The Galaxius must be able to travel VAST distances of emptyness in the tiniest FRACTION of the time anything going even as fast as the speed of light can reach. In this way, like any space craft... more than half of the vessel is devoted to powerful engines to make it move. Galaxius' design however, must be able to operate and perform FAR above what any starship before it could. Subluminal control is maintained through the subspace plasma drive.
The Subspace Plasma Drive, or the Pulsar Drive is a combination plasma drive and subspace pulse drive. The plasma created in the engines is injected into linear accellerators made out of subspace field coils, accellerating the exhaust to actually above lightspeed. This helps propel the ship in the traditional Newtonian method of flight. At the same time, the ripples created in the subspace plain by the energy passing through the coils further help to propel the ship forward in a form of repeling force. The net result allows the engines to give the ship significant thrust. In all, there are six engine blocks aboard. Four are located on the far aft end of the ship, with cilyndrical nozzels for the plasma exhaust. Then two located on the aft of each 'wing'. The 'wing' nozzels are vectored to allow the ship to manuever with its main engine power. Alone, these engines can propel the ship up near close to the speed of light... at least, until Relativity takes hold and begins to cause problems for ship and crew.
Manueverability is further enhanced by the use of powerfull twin Antimass Generators. These generators produce an antimass field around the ship that in essence, makes the ship's weight seem to be less than half its true weight. While in reality, this effect DOES make the ship's mass act less... the ship maintains its full mass. Because of this "Virtual Weight", the energy produced by the engines are said to push with the same force, but on a lighter object. It can be akin to putting a V-12 Engine on a Go-Cart.
For BEYOND luminal speed. The ship employes a revolutionary Hyperdrive system. The oldest ships used a spatial 'warp' drive in order to traverse space. However, although space travel became practical, they were still sluggish by far. Practical travel was still limited to only local sectors, and a few midrange sectors when you were willing to spend time traveling. The next logical step was linking major trade routs and systems through gigantic hyperspace gateways known as Jumpgates. For a time, the two systems worked well, up until engineers managed to develope the Hyperdrive. The drive worked by, instead of flying into a gate that linked points in hyperspace, phased the ship into hyperspace to travel through it at speed far exceding the old warp limits. This was commonly refered to as a Hyperjump. The Hyperdrive system is still the most common drive system today, employed on even the smallest ship. By phasing even the smallest craft into hyperspace, it saves greatly on energy use and can't be engaged or intercepted during a jump. However, even these speeds still made split second military reaction times impossible. The Galaxius design needed to be faster. So the new theory was put to the ultimate test.
The common agreement is that you can further increase your travel speed inside hyperspace by warping it, much the same way you would by using subspace to warp normal space. However, Hyperspace's physics are not adaptable to theories the same way normal physics are. Researchers did not have a sub space field inherent within hyperspace in order to create the warping effect. This put a massive bar on the warping of Subspace. The answer eluded the best scientists for years until a startling revelation was made. A commander for the GCFA by the code name of Tigerclaw stated to try viewing realities as a kind of sandwhich. Reality in the middle, hyperspace on top, and subspace on the bottom. Real-space could be 'warped' by causing subspace fluxes within a small well shaped bubble. So he then proposed, that by causing fluxes in real space, you could WARP HYPERSPACE... Creating a Slipstream. The question was, how do you create a flux in real-space? Tigerclaw's answer was again simple, and overlooked. For hundreds of years, scientists understood space to be 'warped' by gravity. Gravity waves caused 'spatial disruptions' and gravity wells made hyperjumps that weren't calculated 'hazzardous' because jumps into hyperspace that went into or near large gravity wells ripped ships apart before they dropped back into real-space. It hit everyone like a ton of bricks. Gravity Warps Hyperspace. The system that used the warping of hyperspace was first called a Hyperwarp drive... but later renamed to the Slipstream Drive. The first successful system to use this drive was the Tsunami Technologies Hyperslipstream Engine. Because this system uses a gravity burst to warp hyperspace... there are some dangerous side effects. Before the ship jumps to hyperspace, there is a brief period where it accellerates upwards of lightspeed. For this brief period, the gravity waves produced by the engines ripple through realspace immediately aft of the ship. This is known as the Hyperspace Accelleration Wake. This wake has enough power in the gravity waves to cripple or destroy any craft that may be too close to the ship. Under most circumstances, the ship will not perform a slipstream jump directly out of realspace. Instead the ship does a transitional jump to hyperspace first in order to prevent the H.A.W. from forming.
FIVE: Control Systems.
Such a sohpisticated and powerful ship needs the most state-of-the-art controlling and computer systems that can be found. The ship's control interface come in the form of both voice, holographic, and solid state input-output systems.
To start things. Galaxius has two redundant supercomputer cores merged seamlessly with a polynetwork computer system that spans the entire ship. The network accepts vocal commands from anyone on the ship based on their authorization levels. The entire ship also supports holographic screen systems that can customize to any task or user instantly. It can both display data, and be used as a control panel for whatever task may be required. Finally, Galaxius has a few points where there are more solid style controls with the express task of redundancy, including engineering and the BRIDGE.
The ship also contains no less than three combat targeting computer cores. The cores are linked to an extensive set of TEN major sensor packages located across the hull. Between the main cores, the combat computers, and the sensor network, the ship is capable of total situational awareness in the middle of a firefight with an excess of one thousand ships. Tracking systems, targeting calcuations, vector predictions, as well as histographic modeling of a target is used to calculate the exact vector in which to fire a weapon shot. Weapon's Accuracy is down to an area the size of a dime at thirty-thousand miles.
Management of the CORE's internal processes is overseen by a Self Aware "Artificial Logic Library Intelligence Core Emotional" or "ALLICE" AI system. The AI core, ALLICE, presides in charge of the ship's computer systems and is the main voice of the ship itself. In a way, she IS the ship. To be as user friendly as possible, she was designed as near human as technology could reach. With ALLICE, the crew isn't required to actually perform any tasks of ship operations, however, the crew are to do so anyway, to prevent dependancy on computers should a situation arise where such an event would prove catastrophic.
SIX: Defensive Systems.
I order to protect ship and crew from the hostilities of space, and threat forces, Galaxius is equipped with a series of extremely potent defensive systems.
Asside from the ship's hull armor, the extremely strong Crystal Titanium II alloy armor. Galaxius supports a dual shield system.
The first, and probably most fierce shield ever known, is the Multi-Phase Temporal Fluxuation Shielding System. The large coils on the rear spine of the ship are precicely for this system. The field they generate causes a temporal bubble effect that encases the ship in a slight 'time blur'. After calibrations, the shield field fluxuates rapidly while maintaning the ship as an entity in real space. Objects that impact the shield are subjected to a temporal phenominam that can alter the velocity and direction of individual particles or energy waves. The effect is due to the particles in for instance, a bullet, suddenly being at 'different' times... and the result scatters projectiles, and refract energy rays, and seamlessly take even the worst firestorm without straining.
The effect would normally completely seal the ship from anything else. However, the calibrations in the phasing polarity allow for all sensor collection as well as a directional 'OUT ONLY' way for energy and matter such as a weapon's shot. Further enhancements to the shielding system allowed for partial opening of the shielding field to allow fighters to move in and out of the hanger during a full combat situation. The newest enhancement is a phase linkup system, which allows the shields to envelope around another craft to provide protection without lowering any part of the shields. This is especially usefull when fighters need to move close to the ship during a firefight.
There is no use attempting concentraited fire to take out the shield generators... the coils are a redundant system designed to combat exactly that kind of situation, and second, the shielding system is so strong that localized concentraition fire has no effect.
However, a small problem was realized when before the combat situation ever came into play. The MPTF shielding is notoriously useless against a gravity wave or GW Cannon. Because gravity bends space and time, Gravity Waves pass unhindered through the shields, and provided the needs to install a secondary shielding system onboard.
The Polymatrix Shield System or PSS, was the answer to the Gravity Wave Problem. Poly Matrix Shields are a type of shield that forms a weak subspatial energy barrier around a vessel, and uses a computer controled incoming fire detection system which, at the moment of impact, moves that field into a concentraited point the size of the impact or splash damage area, thus increasing its effectiveness a thousand fold. Against LARGE are splash damages, such as gravitational shockwaves, the field is reinforced by the triple redundant systems onboard Galaxius.
SEVEN: Offensive Systems.
An Assault Cruiser is not capable of combat without its weapons.
PRIMARY STRATEGIC WEAPONS
STARCLUSTER "SUPERNOVA" VORTEX BEAM CANNON (X1)
This single, front mounted, energy beam weapon is the MOST leathal device ever created by Satyrntron Systems. Using the massive power generated by the Zeropoint reactors, the Starcluster fires a modulated VORTEX BEAM at a target. The properties of the vortex beam add SPIN to the subquantum particles within any given material. As is theorized, when this spin reaches a critical level, subquantum particles, 'explode' or fly apart in a burst of radiation. No matter what substance is hit, there is no tolerance, as ALL substances are made from the most basic of particles. There is no need for various PHASE settings, or other more complex methods of delivering energy to target. When the radiation from the effective area is released, it behaves like all energy does, and moves to the point of least resistance. In short, the resulting blast rips the target apart. Should this beam be fired on a large mass body, such as a star, it can effectively cause a phenominal explosion similar to a supernova in power. Hense the nickname. However, the weapon cannot be used without full consent of the bridge crew, as its power is unimaginable if used incorrectly.
CAPITAL SHIP GRADE SUBSPACE SHOCKWAVE CANNON (X2)
After realizing the growing need for a more powerful weapon system that can provide massive area saturation of destructive energy, the Ultra Particle Cannon onboard Galaxius when it went out on its first few missions was replaced with a new and even MORE powerful area effect weapon. The new Capital Ship level Subspace Shockwave Cannon was installed in the 'wings' of the ship, as fixed forward mounted cannons. Subspace shockwave cannons use a subspace cascade chain reaction directed into focus and amplification coils to produce a directed shockwave beam that can vaporize and rip vessels apart. An instance of the use of a subspace shockwave cannon is easy to detect from lightyears away, as the ripples pass through subspace long after the destructive form of the beam has died out. SSCs are tuned so that the blasts have a limited range no further than a solar system in length, and are excelent for delivering a massive strike to an entire fleet or shipyard facility before ever actually entering the system.
SECONDARY STRATEGIC WEAPONS
TORPEDO BAYS (X5)
The Galaxius carries it's own compliment of a variety of torpedo class weapons, which can be fired out of one of the five onboard torpedo bays located fore and aft on the ship. Each bay can provide the simultanious firing of up to TEN torpedos at any given time. These bays can also be configured for rapid torpedo deployment, feeding torpedos into space as fast as they can be loaded. Torpedos can inclode modified autonomous sensor packages, special delivery packages, as well as a variety of warhead packages. Most common being directional charge torpedos. Other common torpedos include nuclear and fusion torpedos, and the much dispised antimatter warheads. Less common torpedos include system range CRUISE TORPEDOS, which are extremely fast and can be used for precision strikes against targets at ranges of several Astronomical Units. By the time such a torpedo reaches top speed, major manuevers become nearly impossible, so this class is usually used against fixed installations or larger vessels, while sneak attacks are also common against small manueverable vehicles. However, the MOST powerful torpedo class weapon produced to date is the dangerous Chronotor Torpedo. This devastating torpedo uses a small temporal device to create a compressed time field. By the time the torpedo detonates, this field can amass an effect that is equivialant to ten thousand years of time. Anything that gets caught in the One AU blast radius can be instantly subjected to ten THOUSAND years of aging. Against organic matter, this is INSTANTLY leathal, and reduces anyone caught in it to a skeleton in mere miliseconds. Major vessels caught in this can be rendered lifeless. Those with more dangerous reactors may find themselves instantly annihilated. Certainly, such a torpedo is kept WELL dissarmed and seccured. The public has yet to know any information about this weapon.
PRIMARY TACTICAL WEAPONS
SUNSTAR DOUBLE BARREL HEAVY PLASMA CANNONS (X10)
The primary and most commonly used weapon onboard GALAXIUS, they are extremely powerful capital ship class offensive cannons, noted for their power more than anything else. While normal models are found on almost any vessel, engineers discovered that the sheer power load available to weapons aboard GALAXIUS allowed for some modifications to the cannons to be made that couldn't be allowed before. Where older models used reactor plasma or engine plasma to fire powerful but slow plasma blasts, the DHPs use intense gravity compressors to ionize and focus plasma to near the fusing point and then launch it from the cannon at seventy five percent of the speed of light. This tight beam delivery of extremely fast, and superheated plasma increased the effectiveness of this weapon FAR beyond what almost any capital ship can take. Fine tuning allowed the plasma to be launched as even more effective PHASED bursts, as well as polarized to further increase their delivery threshhold. The amount of energy delivered in a single full power shot from just one barrel can effectively level an entire city. It is said that the power of the weapon is so fantastic, that if it were to be fired from within an atmosphere, the blast wave coming off the barrel alone would cause serious damage to structures within a few kilometers of it, and shatter windows as far as fifteen kilometers away. Each barrel is mounted in pairs on a turret with a full computer axis control, allowing each single barrel to move independantly of the ship and track targets along vectors while both ship and target are engaged in high G manuevers. Targetting computer accuracy for the weapons systems allows for next to surgical accuracy even with these weapons operating.
TYPHOON HYPERWAVE CANNON (X1)
The ultimate in battleship backbone breaker weapons, this single weapon can be easily spotted on the GALAXIUS, even at a distance of several kilometers. The large barrel of this weapon is located along the upper forward spine of the vessel and is permenantly fixed to the ship's flight axis. It is considered similar to a subspace shockwave cannon, being a wave field weapon of great power. However, its mechanics are far different and its employment completely dissimilar. The Typhoon employs the use of subspace, and hyperspace mechanics to create a wave front of chaotic energy within a tight elongated sphere that is projected at near lightspeed velocity at large targets, such as opposing capital ships. Because of the unpredictable and rather chaotic nature of tidal forces and energy reactions going on within the subspace/hyperspace disruption, the wave, or BLAST, has a tendancy to rip right through standard shields, and more often than not, right through entire vessels, but not before unloading phenominal amounts of energy into the hapless target in the proccess.
SECONDARY TACTICAL WEAPONS
FORCE WAVE CANNON (X50)
A more moderate ship to ship, and ship to fighter combat weapon, the FWC is a combination of laser and ion pulse cannon designed to help attack smaller faster vessels. While primarily a more close range melee combat weapon, these cannons are used frequently in supressive surface bombardment and dissabling of medium vessels where the magnitude of the DHP would be counter productive. Their higher fire rate, and faster travel velocity (0.999c) allow them a better advantage in hitting targets at medium distances and high speeds. Fifty of these cannons dot the hull of Galaxius, positioned to provide fire from ANY angle of attack that hasn't already caused an attacker to collide with the ship shielding system.

The only hard square angles in the hull are mainly located on the conning tower and parts of the leading and trailing edges of the 'wings' of the ship. She is three thousand, seventy feet long. One thousand feet wide at the 'wings'. And at the highest point, which is from the bottom of the vessel to the top of the conning tower, she stands a majestic five-hundred feet high.
The superstructure is composed up of a skeletal framework of immensely strong crystal titanium II framing bulkheads. Each framing bulkhead is actually a hollow crystal titanium II wall or tube, filled with a combination of aluminium links that are spaced apart to react as shock absorbers, and an elastic carbon composite. In several places, much of the framing network comes together into what is known as a 'shock node'... where any impact force that's been traveling through the framework, can be easily distributed back out across the entire vessel, reducing the risk of catastrophic hull buckling in the event of a collision.
The ship has forty-five decks, with a simple yet efficient turbolift network traveling through them. Each deck is eleven feet tall. Nine feet of each deck is physical living/working area, while two feet of it are for the 'between deck' accesses, such as deck plating, power networking, computer networking, and life-support networking.
THREE: Power Systems.
Among the most important feature of this ship, is the power system that makes it tick. Galaxius has two main reactor core systems.
The main core, is what is known as the Zeropoint Reactor. This reactor taps the energy inherrent in the very fabric of space itself, and pipes it off to all the ship's systems. This system is non-volatile when compaired to other power systems and is not a danger of exploding if damaged. There are two cores onboard the Galaxius, the primary core, and the secondary core, which is located further aft. Asside from the main cores, the ship has eight small fusion reactor cores to provide auxillary power should both mains go down. Although major power eating systems, such ass hyperjump systems and major weapons systems won't function without MASSIVE power supplies, the fusion cores can keep the ship fully functional and self sufficient as long as hydrogen can be located and stored.
In the most desperate of situations, where even the eight widely spaced fusion cores are inoperable, life support and critical systems can be sustained with the onboard fuel cells, and solar panels that dot certain areas of the hull.
-Normal Reactor Operations
Under Normal Flight Circumstances (NFC), the primary core is kept online unless under maintinence, where the secondary core is then brought online. The primary core provides more than enough power to operate the entire ship at all times of regular flight. The secondary core is kept on ready standby however, in the case of going into Combat Alert Status, or in the event of a sudden primary failure.
-Combat Mode Reactor Operations
In a combat situation, the ship needs every last joul of power it can muster to fight anything from one ship, to an entire fleet. One reactor pipes all energy to regular systems and engines, while the second sends all power to the strategic and tactical systems. This allows the ship to gain the power advantage in weapons over anything it comes into combat with. In combat situations, the fusion cores are kept at a warm standby, however are not up at volatile levels that could cause a major issue if they were to take damage.
-Catastrophic Emergency Reactor Operations.
In the event of a terminal core failure of the two main cores. There is still the risk of the energy left in the core to be hazzardous. However, in situations where the core may become breached, an emergency venting system failsafe automatically dumps the core contents into the engine system. The core dump is not computer controlled, but power controled through the use of a simplistic force-field application. As long as the core is functioning correctly, it self powers a force field which keeps the energy from venting. However, upon core failure or damage, the forcefield would instantly collapse, thereby venting any leftover core energy directly into the engine system to prevent possible radiation contamination or large discharges into the ship. Once deenergized, the core is harmless. Because the field is self powered, the strength of the field is ALWAYS strong enough to prevent energy leaks. Field strength is directly proportional to reactor output.
Fusion reactors pose a greater risk however. Fusions are brought to hot standby whenever one of the main cores shut down or go into a core dump. Once at hot standby, they can pose a risk to the ship as potential fusion bombs if they become unstable or overloaded. Therefor they are linked to both computer, and manual ejection systems. If the computer system cannot keep a reactor stablized after it reaches a certain point, it gets ejected from the ship VIA a solid propellant booster. In situations where reactor ejection cannot be computer controlled. The booster can be fired by a simple electric spark. Once fired, the booster cannot be stopped, and the core will launch from the ship and quickly be pushed to a safe distance before it can go critical. In situations where the fusion core or booster may become damaged, the booster is designed to ignite and launch because it took the battledamage. This prevents an ejection failure due to system damage.
-Low Power, or Critical Power Emergency Operations
In the event that both ZP cores, and all eight fusion cores are down, the emergency power system from the fuel cells and solar panels prvide power only for critical life support and communication systems. Engines are taken offline, weapons are useless, and shields are a joke. At this point more than likely, half the crew may be dead, and the ship cannot fly under its own power. In this situation, any available engineers would be trying to either bring a fusion core back online, or get the main cores back online as soon as possible. If the docking bay is in tact, a shuttle would be dispatched to locate a possible tow ship, or to jump to the nearest friendly or neutral base or planet for assistance.
FOUR: Engines
As an interstellar spacecraft. The Galaxius must be able to travel VAST distances of emptyness in the tiniest FRACTION of the time anything going even as fast as the speed of light can reach. In this way, like any space craft... more than half of the vessel is devoted to powerful engines to make it move. Galaxius' design however, must be able to operate and perform FAR above what any starship before it could. Subluminal control is maintained through the subspace plasma drive.
The Subspace Plasma Drive, or the Pulsar Drive is a combination plasma drive and subspace pulse drive. The plasma created in the engines is injected into linear accellerators made out of subspace field coils, accellerating the exhaust to actually above lightspeed. This helps propel the ship in the traditional Newtonian method of flight. At the same time, the ripples created in the subspace plain by the energy passing through the coils further help to propel the ship forward in a form of repeling force. The net result allows the engines to give the ship significant thrust. In all, there are six engine blocks aboard. Four are located on the far aft end of the ship, with cilyndrical nozzels for the plasma exhaust. Then two located on the aft of each 'wing'. The 'wing' nozzels are vectored to allow the ship to manuever with its main engine power. Alone, these engines can propel the ship up near close to the speed of light... at least, until Relativity takes hold and begins to cause problems for ship and crew.
Manueverability is further enhanced by the use of powerfull twin Antimass Generators. These generators produce an antimass field around the ship that in essence, makes the ship's weight seem to be less than half its true weight. While in reality, this effect DOES make the ship's mass act less... the ship maintains its full mass. Because of this "Virtual Weight", the energy produced by the engines are said to push with the same force, but on a lighter object. It can be akin to putting a V-12 Engine on a Go-Cart.
For BEYOND luminal speed. The ship employes a revolutionary Hyperdrive system. The oldest ships used a spatial 'warp' drive in order to traverse space. However, although space travel became practical, they were still sluggish by far. Practical travel was still limited to only local sectors, and a few midrange sectors when you were willing to spend time traveling. The next logical step was linking major trade routs and systems through gigantic hyperspace gateways known as Jumpgates. For a time, the two systems worked well, up until engineers managed to develope the Hyperdrive. The drive worked by, instead of flying into a gate that linked points in hyperspace, phased the ship into hyperspace to travel through it at speed far exceding the old warp limits. This was commonly refered to as a Hyperjump. The Hyperdrive system is still the most common drive system today, employed on even the smallest ship. By phasing even the smallest craft into hyperspace, it saves greatly on energy use and can't be engaged or intercepted during a jump. However, even these speeds still made split second military reaction times impossible. The Galaxius design needed to be faster. So the new theory was put to the ultimate test.
The common agreement is that you can further increase your travel speed inside hyperspace by warping it, much the same way you would by using subspace to warp normal space. However, Hyperspace's physics are not adaptable to theories the same way normal physics are. Researchers did not have a sub space field inherent within hyperspace in order to create the warping effect. This put a massive bar on the warping of Subspace. The answer eluded the best scientists for years until a startling revelation was made. A commander for the GCFA by the code name of Tigerclaw stated to try viewing realities as a kind of sandwhich. Reality in the middle, hyperspace on top, and subspace on the bottom. Real-space could be 'warped' by causing subspace fluxes within a small well shaped bubble. So he then proposed, that by causing fluxes in real space, you could WARP HYPERSPACE... Creating a Slipstream. The question was, how do you create a flux in real-space? Tigerclaw's answer was again simple, and overlooked. For hundreds of years, scientists understood space to be 'warped' by gravity. Gravity waves caused 'spatial disruptions' and gravity wells made hyperjumps that weren't calculated 'hazzardous' because jumps into hyperspace that went into or near large gravity wells ripped ships apart before they dropped back into real-space. It hit everyone like a ton of bricks. Gravity Warps Hyperspace. The system that used the warping of hyperspace was first called a Hyperwarp drive... but later renamed to the Slipstream Drive. The first successful system to use this drive was the Tsunami Technologies Hyperslipstream Engine. Because this system uses a gravity burst to warp hyperspace... there are some dangerous side effects. Before the ship jumps to hyperspace, there is a brief period where it accellerates upwards of lightspeed. For this brief period, the gravity waves produced by the engines ripple through realspace immediately aft of the ship. This is known as the Hyperspace Accelleration Wake. This wake has enough power in the gravity waves to cripple or destroy any craft that may be too close to the ship. Under most circumstances, the ship will not perform a slipstream jump directly out of realspace. Instead the ship does a transitional jump to hyperspace first in order to prevent the H.A.W. from forming.
FIVE: Control Systems.
Such a sohpisticated and powerful ship needs the most state-of-the-art controlling and computer systems that can be found. The ship's control interface come in the form of both voice, holographic, and solid state input-output systems.
To start things. Galaxius has two redundant supercomputer cores merged seamlessly with a polynetwork computer system that spans the entire ship. The network accepts vocal commands from anyone on the ship based on their authorization levels. The entire ship also supports holographic screen systems that can customize to any task or user instantly. It can both display data, and be used as a control panel for whatever task may be required. Finally, Galaxius has a few points where there are more solid style controls with the express task of redundancy, including engineering and the BRIDGE.
The ship also contains no less than three combat targeting computer cores. The cores are linked to an extensive set of TEN major sensor packages located across the hull. Between the main cores, the combat computers, and the sensor network, the ship is capable of total situational awareness in the middle of a firefight with an excess of one thousand ships. Tracking systems, targeting calcuations, vector predictions, as well as histographic modeling of a target is used to calculate the exact vector in which to fire a weapon shot. Weapon's Accuracy is down to an area the size of a dime at thirty-thousand miles.
Management of the CORE's internal processes is overseen by a Self Aware "Artificial Logic Library Intelligence Core Emotional" or "ALLICE" AI system. The AI core, ALLICE, presides in charge of the ship's computer systems and is the main voice of the ship itself. In a way, she IS the ship. To be as user friendly as possible, she was designed as near human as technology could reach. With ALLICE, the crew isn't required to actually perform any tasks of ship operations, however, the crew are to do so anyway, to prevent dependancy on computers should a situation arise where such an event would prove catastrophic.
SIX: Defensive Systems.
I order to protect ship and crew from the hostilities of space, and threat forces, Galaxius is equipped with a series of extremely potent defensive systems.
Asside from the ship's hull armor, the extremely strong Crystal Titanium II alloy armor. Galaxius supports a dual shield system.
The first, and probably most fierce shield ever known, is the Multi-Phase Temporal Fluxuation Shielding System. The large coils on the rear spine of the ship are precicely for this system. The field they generate causes a temporal bubble effect that encases the ship in a slight 'time blur'. After calibrations, the shield field fluxuates rapidly while maintaning the ship as an entity in real space. Objects that impact the shield are subjected to a temporal phenominam that can alter the velocity and direction of individual particles or energy waves. The effect is due to the particles in for instance, a bullet, suddenly being at 'different' times... and the result scatters projectiles, and refract energy rays, and seamlessly take even the worst firestorm without straining.
The effect would normally completely seal the ship from anything else. However, the calibrations in the phasing polarity allow for all sensor collection as well as a directional 'OUT ONLY' way for energy and matter such as a weapon's shot. Further enhancements to the shielding system allowed for partial opening of the shielding field to allow fighters to move in and out of the hanger during a full combat situation. The newest enhancement is a phase linkup system, which allows the shields to envelope around another craft to provide protection without lowering any part of the shields. This is especially usefull when fighters need to move close to the ship during a firefight.
There is no use attempting concentraited fire to take out the shield generators... the coils are a redundant system designed to combat exactly that kind of situation, and second, the shielding system is so strong that localized concentraition fire has no effect.
However, a small problem was realized when before the combat situation ever came into play. The MPTF shielding is notoriously useless against a gravity wave or GW Cannon. Because gravity bends space and time, Gravity Waves pass unhindered through the shields, and provided the needs to install a secondary shielding system onboard.
The Polymatrix Shield System or PSS, was the answer to the Gravity Wave Problem. Poly Matrix Shields are a type of shield that forms a weak subspatial energy barrier around a vessel, and uses a computer controled incoming fire detection system which, at the moment of impact, moves that field into a concentraited point the size of the impact or splash damage area, thus increasing its effectiveness a thousand fold. Against LARGE are splash damages, such as gravitational shockwaves, the field is reinforced by the triple redundant systems onboard Galaxius.
SEVEN: Offensive Systems.
An Assault Cruiser is not capable of combat without its weapons.
PRIMARY STRATEGIC WEAPONS
STARCLUSTER "SUPERNOVA" VORTEX BEAM CANNON (X1)
This single, front mounted, energy beam weapon is the MOST leathal device ever created by Satyrntron Systems. Using the massive power generated by the Zeropoint reactors, the Starcluster fires a modulated VORTEX BEAM at a target. The properties of the vortex beam add SPIN to the subquantum particles within any given material. As is theorized, when this spin reaches a critical level, subquantum particles, 'explode' or fly apart in a burst of radiation. No matter what substance is hit, there is no tolerance, as ALL substances are made from the most basic of particles. There is no need for various PHASE settings, or other more complex methods of delivering energy to target. When the radiation from the effective area is released, it behaves like all energy does, and moves to the point of least resistance. In short, the resulting blast rips the target apart. Should this beam be fired on a large mass body, such as a star, it can effectively cause a phenominal explosion similar to a supernova in power. Hense the nickname. However, the weapon cannot be used without full consent of the bridge crew, as its power is unimaginable if used incorrectly.
CAPITAL SHIP GRADE SUBSPACE SHOCKWAVE CANNON (X2)
After realizing the growing need for a more powerful weapon system that can provide massive area saturation of destructive energy, the Ultra Particle Cannon onboard Galaxius when it went out on its first few missions was replaced with a new and even MORE powerful area effect weapon. The new Capital Ship level Subspace Shockwave Cannon was installed in the 'wings' of the ship, as fixed forward mounted cannons. Subspace shockwave cannons use a subspace cascade chain reaction directed into focus and amplification coils to produce a directed shockwave beam that can vaporize and rip vessels apart. An instance of the use of a subspace shockwave cannon is easy to detect from lightyears away, as the ripples pass through subspace long after the destructive form of the beam has died out. SSCs are tuned so that the blasts have a limited range no further than a solar system in length, and are excelent for delivering a massive strike to an entire fleet or shipyard facility before ever actually entering the system.
SECONDARY STRATEGIC WEAPONS
TORPEDO BAYS (X5)
The Galaxius carries it's own compliment of a variety of torpedo class weapons, which can be fired out of one of the five onboard torpedo bays located fore and aft on the ship. Each bay can provide the simultanious firing of up to TEN torpedos at any given time. These bays can also be configured for rapid torpedo deployment, feeding torpedos into space as fast as they can be loaded. Torpedos can inclode modified autonomous sensor packages, special delivery packages, as well as a variety of warhead packages. Most common being directional charge torpedos. Other common torpedos include nuclear and fusion torpedos, and the much dispised antimatter warheads. Less common torpedos include system range CRUISE TORPEDOS, which are extremely fast and can be used for precision strikes against targets at ranges of several Astronomical Units. By the time such a torpedo reaches top speed, major manuevers become nearly impossible, so this class is usually used against fixed installations or larger vessels, while sneak attacks are also common against small manueverable vehicles. However, the MOST powerful torpedo class weapon produced to date is the dangerous Chronotor Torpedo. This devastating torpedo uses a small temporal device to create a compressed time field. By the time the torpedo detonates, this field can amass an effect that is equivialant to ten thousand years of time. Anything that gets caught in the One AU blast radius can be instantly subjected to ten THOUSAND years of aging. Against organic matter, this is INSTANTLY leathal, and reduces anyone caught in it to a skeleton in mere miliseconds. Major vessels caught in this can be rendered lifeless. Those with more dangerous reactors may find themselves instantly annihilated. Certainly, such a torpedo is kept WELL dissarmed and seccured. The public has yet to know any information about this weapon.
PRIMARY TACTICAL WEAPONS
SUNSTAR DOUBLE BARREL HEAVY PLASMA CANNONS (X10)
The primary and most commonly used weapon onboard GALAXIUS, they are extremely powerful capital ship class offensive cannons, noted for their power more than anything else. While normal models are found on almost any vessel, engineers discovered that the sheer power load available to weapons aboard GALAXIUS allowed for some modifications to the cannons to be made that couldn't be allowed before. Where older models used reactor plasma or engine plasma to fire powerful but slow plasma blasts, the DHPs use intense gravity compressors to ionize and focus plasma to near the fusing point and then launch it from the cannon at seventy five percent of the speed of light. This tight beam delivery of extremely fast, and superheated plasma increased the effectiveness of this weapon FAR beyond what almost any capital ship can take. Fine tuning allowed the plasma to be launched as even more effective PHASED bursts, as well as polarized to further increase their delivery threshhold. The amount of energy delivered in a single full power shot from just one barrel can effectively level an entire city. It is said that the power of the weapon is so fantastic, that if it were to be fired from within an atmosphere, the blast wave coming off the barrel alone would cause serious damage to structures within a few kilometers of it, and shatter windows as far as fifteen kilometers away. Each barrel is mounted in pairs on a turret with a full computer axis control, allowing each single barrel to move independantly of the ship and track targets along vectors while both ship and target are engaged in high G manuevers. Targetting computer accuracy for the weapons systems allows for next to surgical accuracy even with these weapons operating.
TYPHOON HYPERWAVE CANNON (X1)
The ultimate in battleship backbone breaker weapons, this single weapon can be easily spotted on the GALAXIUS, even at a distance of several kilometers. The large barrel of this weapon is located along the upper forward spine of the vessel and is permenantly fixed to the ship's flight axis. It is considered similar to a subspace shockwave cannon, being a wave field weapon of great power. However, its mechanics are far different and its employment completely dissimilar. The Typhoon employs the use of subspace, and hyperspace mechanics to create a wave front of chaotic energy within a tight elongated sphere that is projected at near lightspeed velocity at large targets, such as opposing capital ships. Because of the unpredictable and rather chaotic nature of tidal forces and energy reactions going on within the subspace/hyperspace disruption, the wave, or BLAST, has a tendancy to rip right through standard shields, and more often than not, right through entire vessels, but not before unloading phenominal amounts of energy into the hapless target in the proccess.
SECONDARY TACTICAL WEAPONS
FORCE WAVE CANNON (X50)
A more moderate ship to ship, and ship to fighter combat weapon, the FWC is a combination of laser and ion pulse cannon designed to help attack smaller faster vessels. While primarily a more close range melee combat weapon, these cannons are used frequently in supressive surface bombardment and dissabling of medium vessels where the magnitude of the DHP would be counter productive. Their higher fire rate, and faster travel velocity (0.999c) allow them a better advantage in hitting targets at medium distances and high speeds. Fifty of these cannons dot the hull of Galaxius, positioned to provide fire from ANY angle of attack that hasn't already caused an attacker to collide with the ship shielding system.

The bomb does not need to be big. Just well placed. Last time anyone tried to plant a bomb was Pyro.... she transported him AND his bomb to the surface of a nearby asteroid the moment he took it out of his bag.
