I have 4 pilots at level 25. They run and hide when damaged, threatened or suddenly stupid. It doesn't happen much and I actaully like it when it does because they give you a nice report of all the credits they have earned.
I send them to Kingdom's End, Paranid Prime, Cardinal's Domain and the Split Capital, empty out their holds, repair their damage and re-start. I haven't lost a ship yet. They make tons of credits and cover a lot of ground. I don't really see a need for more than 4.

Saxon is an executable called by of the batch programs that you use to generate usefully formatted information fom the log01500.txt file.
You only need to use these batch files if -
a) you have logging turned on
b) you want to analyse your mkIII traders.
Refer to the MKIII read me text for more info on logging.

Saxon doesn't seem to work.
I have XP Pro SP1 and I have logging turned on.
When I dclick log2xml.bat, I get a x2trader.xml generated. However, the makexxx.bat files don't do anything because saxon won't run. The error is:
"Unable to start the application. The Microsoft virtual machine cannot be found. Class not registered"
Did you use Java?

Capital Ship compatability?
Hi, Anyone know if Trade command software MK3 is compatible with the capital ships?
My theory is that it should be as they have huge cargo holds, good speed and can use smaller ships to load and unload cargo into the stations.
If it is, I reckon the Split Elephant would make an excellent choice for it, 11,000 Units of Cargo at 303.67 m/s

Oh well... wishful thinking I guess.CBJ wrote:Nope.
On reflection mind you as the stations are limited on the volume of goods they can hold it would probably take quite a long time to recover the money you spent to buy the ship in the first place!!! Unless of course you could capture one - I don't know if it's possible to capture capital ships or not, the best ship I've capped so far is the Khaak M3 which I've managed to do twice with my Teladi Osprey.

additional info about the lvl 25 uni traders getting stuck.
I just had 3 all with the exact same log causing all 3 to stop working.
1. they had all seen an enemy they jumped away from, too a sector with No cells in it.
2. they still had there reserve of cells, Manta's with 110 cells each. But had reported no cells in range to buy even though they still had there reserve.
3. each had 2% hull damage and wouldn't move an inch until it was repaired.
I didn't need to move them to another sector as they had jumped to a sector with a shipyard, so repaired each and started the Uni command again and off they went

Just downloaded the scripts for the first time yesterday on my restart game.
I made a habit of moving my Sector Trader one system over each time it ran out of profitable opportunities - wasn't concerned at the time with getting him to a high level, so I didn't care that while he accumulated 600k+ credits for me, he was only level 5 (he wouldn't advance a level unless he had a run of at least 50k credits before stopping).
I discovered that he was on level 5 when I moved him from the old beat-up Mercury to a shiny new Dolphin with 1 25MW shield. I ordered him to Family Pride and let him go his way.
He was on an ultra-long run in that sector when I brought him a jump drive and an extra pair of 25MW shields and, while he was docking at the Dragonfly missile fact to offload warheads, I slipped them into his cargo hold so I wouldn't have to do it later (and didn't want to be inconvenienced at a later time to go halfway across the universe to deliver these to him later or pay the delivery premium). I mention this in case it causes a bug: I didn't change his orders while doing this - just took the opportunity of him docking for a few seconds and transferred freight in that short available time.
Some game-hours later, he finally runs out of profit opportunities in Family Pride. 1.7 million credits this time, so he should definitely be maxed out and experienced enough for Universe Trader.
Only problem is it still shows him as level 5. How did he manage to make 1.7 million credits and remain at level 5? He has 10 salvage insurances when I look in Best Sells... so ... what's up?
I tell him to switch to another dolphin, and he loses all his experience. So back to an older save to try again.
As a side note, while he was off in Split space, I started up another sector trader in Atreus' Clouds, and he promoted up to 10 with no problem. He's a UT now, picking his way across Boron space. A third ST is puttering around in Teladi space, two sectors south of Seizewell (Ceo's something).
I shut down and will restart my gaming machine in a bit to try it again, but I've seen a couple other threads where people have mentioned a similar difficulty.
Additionally, when I start up the sector trader for the first time, it doesn't show a pilot name (though it does accumulate Salvage Insurance). The pilot's name doesn't show up until I transfer him to another ship (which was the case for both the Split and Boron trading ships; one transfered from an old Mercury, the other from the Vulture I used to mobile mine with).

The Salvage Insurance thing is part of the old Trade Command Software Mk3 that came with 1.3 and 1.4. The new one that you download from the downloads page has a "proper" level system which shows the level after the pilot's name. When you start the trader off for the first time after updating to the new version, and Salvage Insurances should be added directly to your player inventory and should no longer be aboard the ship. It sounds to me as though you haven't restarted the ship's Sector Trader command after having updated.

Thanks for the quick reply.
The thing is that I never used sector trader before; this is a clean installation (new box and everything). I downloaded the extractable, made sure the files were in the proper directories, and eventually turned on logging as well. I started the game with 1.4, and didn't purchase mk3 until I had installed the script.
I would order a trading vessel to start Sector Trader, and it would accumulate salvage insurance. The whole name/level thing doesn't show up until I transfer the pilot to another ship.
Is there a certain place or specific method that should be used to start Sector Trader? Say, only while the ship is docked, or only in space? It doesn't matter that I bought it from the Teladi docks and not Terracorp, right?
A side issue with the transfer pilot command -
It's not a big problem - software's cheap - but if the ship a pilot is transferring to already has fight/nav/trade command software, he still takes the old ship's software along with him (specifically, the fight software). Since it seems that ships can only have one copy of a software upgrade at a time, the extra copies cease to exist. I'll just from now on transfer pilots to empty Dolphins and move anything they need on over afterwards...
I wound up having to go back 20 game hours since I've been relying way too much on autosaves to find a loadpoint before I did that cargo transfer whilst the ST was docking bit, just in case. I'll wait for him to run out of profits in Family Pride before giving him the rest of his gear.
I can upload saves if anyone cares, though something tells me it'll likely work on someone else's install. I'm also using the "Avoid Brennan's +3" plot loophole to keep the Khaak away.

Ah! Well, I better redo that bit, then. A couple files it replaced were newer, so I told it "No" for those (I was installing all the scripts from the download page at the same time; think I did trading mk3 last).
That might explain the inscrutable vagaries here - one pilot gaining levels, the other treading water.
The worst bit is that I bet the 1 million + credits the Family Pride sector trader has racked up so far on this run won't count even if I do reinstall the script. I'll find out in a few game-hours' time.
