Pirate ships are good for cappin as u dont have to worry about the rating, plus they r easy to find. But Split Mambas (M3) will sell for bout 600k with 70-80% hull and not shields etc. The odd thing is, that wen i cap the ship my rating with the split improves. It improves even more if i kill the pilot. Ive gone from 99% enemy to 17%. Ive also found this with the Paranid. Does any1 else find this? or is it just me...
Also, to avoid the bore of spendin 1hr to get 1 ship on v1.3, quick save behind a ship (eg a mamba :P ) and use ions and a laser to get hull to around 87-5% and if they dont bail within a couple of mins, reload.

Dont want to burst your bubble but your rating is going down, quite rapidly by the looks of things. For every rank 0% is the lowest and 99% the highest before being promoted up to the next level.

Killing race ships and ejected pilots does serious damage to your race rep!

capturing using a split dragon with maxed plasma throwers

Post by DickusMaximus »

Heres my guide to capturing.

Take a Split Dragon, and attack a pirate base, all the pirates come to you

I did this not even attempting to capture and ended up with a orinoco and a pirate ship.

you kill about a hundred for every capture. But it works.

Hull damage does not tend to be above 10 per cent though

Hello Brianietta small world eh, good work on the argonopedia (You will know me as Tony - Anna sends love )

I got X2 not realising it was the followup to x beyond after trying to buy it after it being recommended.

On a side issue how do I see the spoilers

I've come up with an interesting way yesterday when I bought my 3rd M2 and was in need of M3s for it.
Since all pirate bases are buying illegal products from me I'm leaving them alone, so my plan was to get some Xenon L.
At first i wanted to use my Osprey as usual but then decided to try something new.
I bought a full loadout of IDs and APSGs for my Titan and jumped into Sector 472, cleared out all M1/M2 and then fired at the Xenon base to make it unleash its fighters.
At that point I switched to the IDs/APSGs and headed away from the base until I had all fighters nicely lined up, then turned around and flew right through the swarm.
I kept doing that again and again and for almost every flythrough I got a ship which was immediatly ordered to dock at my Split Raptor which was parked a bit off the trading route.

About 3 hours later I had 77 ships captured, most of them Xenon L and not one ship below 60% hull, most were ripped of all weapons/shields though thanks to the IDs.

Basically if you need a large number of captured ships this seems to be the easiest way to get them though I admit this only becomes an option late in the game since an M2 with a complete weapon loadout isn't exactly cheap.
Also this way probably takes out the fun out of capturing for some people as there is nothing you have to worry about, sitting in an M2 and basically doing nothing than fly in a straight line, turn around and repeat.

For me it was fun though as I finally found a way to capture in an M2 after unsuccessful tries in a Ray and an Oddy, especially since no captured ship was destroyed by my own ship afterwards. ;)

Posted this in another thread about 1 1/2 months ago and just realized I should have just placed it here since it's just a supplement to Al's Guide :)
_____

Would like to note that someone already has posted their AiRE method and I guess this is extra documentation on that particular method :) Cheers!

This would supplement the guides already out there most notably AL's Ship Capture guide.

[ Requirements ]

- 1 Ion Disrupter
- 1 Alpha/Beta IRE

__________________

Well you have them at 87% or below and you've fried them several times with Dual ION D's. You've been at it 5-10 minutes.. maybe 15. You are feeling the blood lust scream in your trigger finger. That's when you switch to the FINAL OPTION.

Switch off a ION D and Strap on a Weak IRE. The method requires that you hammer them with 3-6 rounds and then back off.

The OTHER method would be too let them get up a little bit of shielding then zap them once with a round of IRE+IOND. Then wait let their shields get back up and ZAP. Then wait and repeat.

___________________

Another Method would be to switch to Alpha/Beta Pac's and do the same sniping as the ones listed above. Basically this all involves the CHIP method. Where you chip away at their hull to force them to become afraid.

___________________

Finally when you can't take it at all switch to B/G PAC + 1 IOND

Unleach salvos of 4-5 then pause for a few seconds. Then repeat until they die or maybe giveup.

_____________________

*note when I'm at it vs multiples meaning 5+ usually around 10-20 ships I just ION D indefinately til every single ship is stripped of guns. Eventually by then suddenly 2-3 will surrender and then I will keep at it til I find out the remaining hard cases. Then I try the other method. When it's 3-4 I'll be less patient and switch to the CHIP method to speed things up. FORCE Ejection

_____________________

[ This method was done by me in a Super Orinoco and a Nova ]

Tho any ship is a great ship to cap in based on pilot and dogfighting preference.

Thanks again to Al for his wonderful guide that helped me get my feet wet when I first started playing more then a month ago.

Finally, after repairing my boron rating a little, I may start to capture some more Boron dolphins.

Strippin' ships.
I've managed a couple of times to be quick enough to strip equipment off ships I was capturing.
I have no way of knowing whether the equipment was going to disappear anyway but I did get it between the end of the "I surrender" message and when all the rest of the equipment disappeared.

You hafta be FAST! ;)

Cool--I didn't think there was any sure way to capture ships. I didn't recognize the random factor as the shields went down.

What the heck is Comabt mk2 Software? and where do I get it?

Post by Coyote21 »

Hi all,

This is my first post on this forum, so pls bear with me if I'm asking questions answered elsewhere. (The search function for this forum dosn't appear to work. see below)

First of all thanks to AI and all the rest for the great tips. I've been using them successfully now since last night. Lots 'o fun :D

But at the start of this thread AI mentioned purchasing Combat mk2 Software with somekind of auto aim assist thingy!

Where can I get this?. I've been searching the universe, this forum, the manual (No surprise I can't find it there  This game needs MUCH better supplied documentation) and may other X2 sites and can find no other mention of either Combat Software or Auto aim assist.

This is how I know the Search function is not working cause when I search for "Combat mk2 software" which is cut and pasted directly from this thread, I get no hits. :headbang:

I'm using 1.4 now, started with 1.3 and have installed the Trade mk3 Software upgrade.

If anyone can help me it would reduce my frustration levels considerably.

Sorry thats my mistake. I think its actually called Fight Mk2 in the game.

Once you have this if you press K once you'll get a lead indicator on your target, and once pressed the second time you'll have the auto-aim where as long as your aim is close to the lead indicator it will adjust your aim to be correct.

HTH

Al

PS watch up for possible upgrades as I've not played 1.4 much and I will almost certainly change the guide to reflect any changes I find.

If you want to use the search function you have to use search terms which have more than 3 letters.

Wow! That was quick. Thanks

Post by Coyote21 »

Wow! That was quick. Probably the fastest reply I've ever recieved in any forum anywhere      Thanks

I've seen the laser option thing in one of my menus. I'm off to try this now.

BTW I've been capturing (using this guide) only since AFTER I upgraded to 1.4. I've only tried Orinoco's, Bayamon's and Pirate Ships so far but it works. It does take sometimes upto 20-25 mins a ship but I have captured all but one or two (cap total approx 8-10) all with 75%+ hulls and at least two with shields and wepons.

Glad to hear it. I've got some work ahead of me to ensure I'm happy with it though. Its been a while since I wrote it and is probably in need of a face-lift anyway :)

If you have any other questions just ask. We're a friendly bunch and normally you wont have to wait for long.

nice work

Post by Ultimagnus »

I wasnt realy in need of help with capturing i have found that my nova does the job quite well though i think your advice should up the likelyhood of my captures and the value of them.

advice i would give to people though is i found that if you try and sort yourself out with an equiped nova early on and concentrate on pirat ships rather than the other fighters you have a fairly easy to tackle target.

i go to sectors with pirat bases and just fly around waiting for the pirat ship convoys and then pick them off one by one. i think my best collection took about 3 hours of playing i total'd about 15 pirat ship captures. I owe the large stock of 25mw shields now sitting on my captured pirat ship (portable armoury and swag bag :P) to this kind of milk run capturing but now i understand what makes them bail out im sure ill go home tonight and smash that reccord.

Question:
Whats the best type of ship (value wise) to capture whilst useing a nova.

and how in the hell do you go about capturing larger capitol ships? i so want one!!!!

i find shareholders fortune to be the best place.. its got 3 shipyards within 3 sectors (2 in 1 sector).. its got a pirate base, and the pirates love going to my space fuel factory in there (or to the bliss place in teladi space);-).. so i just wait and cap them b4 they get there.. u can just wait.. theres plenty of roids for storage of ships.. theres another pirate base one over in mines.. so all in all its The perfect capping place and i place laser towers 2 of them near each gate.. so they try to leave and i blow them up.. must have got about 20 pirate ships the xl ones.. (these are good as sector and universe traders
