Dunno about Z games but you might get some replies if you ask about the X games

Ok enough of that!

I think the funniest thing I've come across was a Bayamon (IIRC) that was trying to kill itself. It was one I'd captured and renamed (hence I knew it was trying to kill itself). It just flew round in extremely tight circles, presumably trying to get onto its own tail. You've never seen anything so daft!

I actually had tears running down my face and a stitch from laughing so hard :D

Using Stone D's patch i saw a very powerful single Paranid Prommy attack and destroy half of a Boron sector. :D

I also saw a Teladi Condor pursue and kill a pirate freighter, couldnt pull up in time and blew itself to bits on the local jump gate.

The only really daft thing I've seen is a Boron Pirahna try to fly through a station to shoot at me, needless to say the poor pilot was unable to pull out of that 1.
As for great battles 2 Pirate Orinoco's, 1 Pirate Baymon and 2 Mandaly's, I chase down the Mandaly's 1st, the Orinoco's both try to tail me and end up shooting both of the Mandaly's, then to make it worse the baymon comes in from the side, I accelerate and the three remaining ships collide, 1 less Baymon to deal with, I took the Orinoco's out without too many problems. I really couldn't believe my luck that day.
Victims, aren't we all ?

based on one of my experiences playing x-tension....

The pirate Mandalay climbed away from the Space Fuel Distillery...

...and across the sights of a waiting Piranha.

The pilot squeezed the trigger on the control column, bright clouds of high velocity elemental particles coursed across the space towards the pirate. The first bolt hit the Mandalay squarely, shaking the little ship, It's shields fluxed, glowing slightly as the particles were deflected round the ship. The second bolt hit home, already weakened shields offering little resistance as it tore into the portside engine. The small ship tumbled away, plasma streaming brightly from the destroyed engine. A bright ball of fire, as bright as the system's sun, marked the end of existence for the Pirate. The crippled ship's main drive finally giving up the ghost.

New target selected. A larger pirate transporter, on the far side of the station. The pilot rolled the Piranha, bringing it closer to the station, hugging it's contour as it rounded the stations external tanks. As the target came into view the Piranha leveled out, starting a full velocity attack run. The Pirate ship, a freighter of Paranid origin, was turning away. But not quickly enough.
"Target is now in firing range"
Blue particle clouds raced across the darkness, pumling the transporters shields. The transporter shook under the onslaught, but maintained it's course. The piranha climbed away from the Pirate ship, bringing a new ship into view. A Xenon L filled the view screen of the Piranha. High energy Plasma lanced from the wingtips of the new ship, barely passing beneath the Piranha, hitting the Pirate ship squarely. Points of light coloured the ships shields, at the points of contact. The pilot guided his Piranha neatly between the Xenon ship, and another Piranha, flying in formation with the Xenon L, as they continued their attack run. The Piranha turned back towards the target.

A second Xenon L began it's attack run from the opposite direction, as the first over flew the Pirate freighter. Plasma raked across the side of the freighter, as it tried to turn to face this new adversary. Too late. Fire danced across the hull of the freighter. A pressurised cargo container exploded. The freighter slid sickly sideways, the control thrusters of the crippled ship refusing to compensate. Slowly, it spun from it's last course, explosions ripping through the cargo section breaking the ship two, before the power plant detonated.
Tiny fragments of the, once large ship, thrown out by the blast, raked the shields of the victors, their shields glowing slightly in response, as the turned away.

Memories of an X pilot

And then there was the time when I nearly got shot up by my own ships.

A pirate detroyed one of my stations freighters on the far side of the sector so I decided to go teach it a lesson. I didn't, however, notice that the station had also dispatched fighters to deal with the offending pirate.
We both reached the pirate at the same time, unaware of each other, and from opposite directions.
I ended up dodging enemy fire, friendly fire, pirate ships, Piranhas and octopus, as I flew straight through a short but particularly vicious fur ball :o

My grandad was a chef in the war and used to nick hand grenades from the stores to 'catch' fish, to spare the infantry another plate of bully beef... popular fella my grandad in the war..... sorry you mentioned war stories.. different thread maybe..

erm.. funny stuff in X..! every time a xenon falls for the old, 'sit in front of their own station, while they head straight for you, jumping out of the way at the last minute'... always has me in stitches.

.
My Dad who escaped from a WW2 POW camp used grenades in ponds to catch fish.

a noisy but very effective way to fish per se. :D

What's the deal with the XM0 anyway? How come it has paper-thin 625MW shielding?

I think there's a bug in the collision damage calculation--I reckon Egosoft takes the speeds of the ships into consideration, and does the most damage to the one travelling slowest. Since I was doing 176 m/s, and the XM0 doesn't get above a brisk walking pace, this calculation worked out well in my favour!

You can test this (if you have the money) by flying a TL head-on into an XM1 and an XM2. Odds are you'll survive the collision with the slow XM1, but you won't survive the collision with the fast XM2...

I changed a few things using StoneD's patcher and for some reason there were hundreds of pirate ships. They began destroying entire sectors. At one point Argon Prime was nearly destroyed but I helped defend it. :)
