I'm not looking for the folder on my PC, I want to know the name of the folder you put it into. You say it's the "base folder of X4" but I want you to tell me the actual name of the folder you put it into, so that I can confirm that it's the correct folder.

I suspect CBJ wants to know the complete folder path, e.g.: D:\Steam\steamapps\common\X4 Foundations
That's where the OpenAL32.dll is in my case.

Rockbuddy9 wrote: Fri, 4. Jul 25, 15:52 I copied the the one from stalker and renamed it to the OPENAL file titled "openal32.dll" (i found it by doing a *.dll search copied the stalker one over, renamed it to overwrite the original and did so twice to make sure there was no typo).
But where did you copy it to?

Just a quick check on that file name ..
In my setup the name of the file is openal32.dll, not openal.32.dll
You have an extra . in there.

Yeah that was a typo (my mic cord is over my keyboard and I have not been able to type the same since and I don't really proof read my posts for that kind of error.

The filepath was the correct one and I had replaced the file in there. After replacing it, it did not solve the audio quality, so the filepath was the standard C install through STEAM directory. I have since refunded the game because I could not see that there was a page 2 option when cycling through so when I checked the webpage I would see no change, as finding that small page 2 was not what I was prioritizing in my search.

So the "base folder" is accurate to the screenshot there.

What this sounds very like to me is that the Stalker mod has set some global OpenAL settings (perhaps in a separate settings file somewhere or even in registry - although I am unsure about that) and those settings changes have survived removal of the mod and reinstallation of OpenAL. That might be something worth investigating on your system if you can do so safely. Please be very careful about the registry as messing with that can have serious system effects if not done correctly.

I'll check the registry to see what is in there yet I doubt that will solve this issue and unfortunately I don't have the game anymore, so even if I engage in that, I will not necessarily see the results.

After checking the registry, there is stuff from OpenAL SDK but other than that, no other drivers. Perhaps removing them will resolve this issue.

Since you can't see and don't need any X4 solution any more, I would leave the registry alone. Still, it is useful to know that there might be a registry element at play in the sound issue. Thanks.
