I've bought a bunch of mining and trade ships for my super station and I activated Ship Replacement.
It put a hammer symbol in my station list next to my ship list for that station.
Some are red to indicate missing ships, but they're not being replaced.
Do I require my own Shipyards for this feature to work?

You do, indeed, require your own shipyard and the necessary blueprints for the feature to work.

Also, if you're a doofus like me, some ships simply cannot be replaced.

Ahh, makes sense.
Cheers!
Guess I gotta make some money and buy some blueprints.
I have all my collectors ships in my HQ, though I did foolishly give my dart to the guy who gave me the Casino Blueprint.
