[#3812] Ship replacment system work inccorect

Post by 4ykotkA »

Game with no mods. Fresh start since 7.50

Situation:
Have fleet where carrier Raptor is a leader and Erliking assigned to it as "Attack for leader". Also Erlking has own squadron of Dragon Raiders with command "Attack for leader". After battle some of Dragons Raider was destroyed, shipyard constructed new ones and send it to last position of fleet. When Dragons arrived, nothing happening and ships just idle and do not reintigrated into the fleet. In the fleet list some destroyed ships have grey color, some ships just gone from list. Dragons which was built for replacment, was placed into unassigned ship tab.

Also annoying problem that replacment system can't correct replace leader of fleet/squadron and fleets just dying after some serious battles.

Can we have function to save Fleet Template? For example, if my fleet was totally destroyed or have huge losses, i manually in one-click choose Fleet Template and it reload/reassigne all ships from fleet list and from unassigned ship tab.

EDIT: i lost save with Dragons, but caught another situation where assigne ships deleted from fleet list after replacment and arriving to fleet position. Link with save down

Sector Morning Star III, Fleet 41 (3 Rattlesnakes, 2 Chimeras), you have 20-40 seconds to see how 2 Chimeras after replacment arriving and leave fleet.

They'll also need the DXDiag and Vulkaninfo, just to rule out hardware.

It's the script confusing which fleet slots are ordering replacements and where to put them. Each fleet wing and sublayer needs a unique slot and address for the old licence ID and the new one. As well as Covering For IDs the game needs Replacing For IDs based on licence plates, and the game needs to do duplicate checks when assigning them. The game also needs to replace crew and refresh material, so binding the most recent build or resupply interaction to a special Resupply trade order would solve a lot of problems.

Copying the ship with whole hull and repairing everything kind of works but the game needs to treat it like duplicating the build state with original loadout (until last changed at build or resupply). If you can do that then the crew issue can be solved and material refreshed, leaving the only problem pairing up old and new reference numbers properly.

My suggestion for that is for the ships to take a dummied name reference the player doesn't have to see - an address for where the ship belongs in wing structure. Or expand the ship licence plate with a new fragment that does the same thing. Fleet leader gets a fleet licence fragment that controls this-is-this-fleet-leader, then licence fragments that translate alpha-alpha-beta-alpha-position-three.

Nota Bene: The game can already tell fleet leaders apart - Fleet 1 and up. Default designations will also be needed for wing by alpha-alpha-beta-alpha-3 as an example. If you want this to be like licence plate language you can do that. You could even give Wings custom names like fleet leaders, even name and number by those names (so that you can call a Wing 'Gold' and have them all called 'Gold 1 through 30' for example.) If you pool docking resources across the entire fleet then you could have one wing for fighters and M ships and have them all dock automatically on travelling without manually assigning ships to their docks. There's a lot of potential to play admiral here.

This is straying into feature request territory, so I'll exercise a little discipline. But I'm hoping this is all useful and relevant, so I'll let my enthusiasm stand. :)

Further Nota Bene: an example licence structure would be fleet licence, then ABCDEFGHIJ for wing structure (gives us AABA) and a numeral (003 for my example). These licences would be used by the game to standardise binding the licence to that specific wing slot, and turned into a randomized unique licence just like existing ship licences. If we can save ship loadout on build and resupply and copy and repair everything else, then we're golden. :)

Another Nota Bene: updating resupply standards with ships already built would need to be done based on what the ship already has, and if there's a single missile type needs to assume maximum missiles. A low or medium awareness script prioritising ships losing hull, then shields, then those outside combat would help ease the strain of updating the game across a player's fleet. Or the game could hang for a bit with a message on screen stating that the game is guessing what resupply values should be, please wait a few minutes; players would understand.
