[#3450] 7.50. Problems with L and XL ships in combat. (Maneuvering, Attacking, Forgetting about enemies)

This video clearly shows that large ships have several problems at once.:
1) Problems with maneuvering. The ships fly to the place where the target was at the time of the attack order. They can't keep formation when attacking.
2) Do not attack the target with the main guns unless the target is strictly in the line of attack.
3) Do not turn the main guns on the target.
4)As soon as the target leaves the line of sight, the ships stop attacking and just sit idle, they need a lot of time to re-visit the enemy.

It seems to me that the problem is that the ship has a very long delay in checking the location of the target, they do not understand where the target is now. This is perfectly visible on the video. After the target has left the firing zone, the ship thinks for a long time and turns in the direction where the enemy is currently flying. They can only attack stationary targets normally.

In beta 6 and beta 7, the big ships worked very well, but with the release of beta 8, everything broke down, remaining on release 7.50.

Tested your update 7.50
Ships of class L and LX behave incomprehensibly, ships maneuver incomprehensibly, they collide when necessary, do not use main guns, because for some reason they do not aim at the target. If the target leaves the line of attack on course, then the ships do not attack. When the target leaves the ships' field of vision, the attack stops and it takes a long time for the ships to start attacking again. Your betas 6 and 7 were closer to the truth.

Please see the very first thread at the top of the forum and provide the information requested there, including a link to a savegame showing what you're describing there. I will also merge your thread with a very similar one just a few lines down, since you seem to be describing the same thing.

I will add to the post information on problems with destroyers and also with aircraft carriers.

Unfortunately, I couldn't upload it to Youtube.

My comments:
1) Destroyers are constantly trying to take a "convenient" position to attack with their main weapons. But they can't because the target is moving.
2) When a destroyer takes a position, it has a point where the main weapon is being attacked and it cannot adjust this point.
3) Of the destroyers, the destroyer Scat and Phoenix performed well. They use their main guns and choose the right position to attack.
4) Aircraft carriers either rush to the station or stand far to the side.
5) AI-controlled Asgard is completely useless.
6) If all this is fixed, the protection stations will not be able to resist the destroyers.
7) Some aircraft carriers do not send fighters to attack.

I observed this already in Beta 7. At some point Destroyer performance vs. other destroyers got worse.

I'll bring up this topic and say that the AI of capital ships in 7.6 is still quite bad at aiming guns at enemy capital ships. Targeting fixed targets works well, but targeting mobile targets is very bad. Your destroyers are constantly circling around a mobile enemy, not knowing where to move them.
