Like I heard that combats no longer have instant TD, but apparently TER and BOR engines do still have those, though I'm not sure if it's combats only or it's a race wide attribute.
And sure there are a lot of details, but what are the big ones like those? I remember something about PAR having high speeds but they don't turn well or something. But dunno if that's a ship thing or PAR engine thing.
What are the details of the engines with the new system?

Everything is much more sluggish now. Changing direction means first drifting for what feels like an eternity, before you can move in the new direction. Terran engines lost their only reason of existence, namely the instantanous engaging of the travel drive, max accelelaration to top speed and large boost capacity.
Ships feel like they are constantly skating on ice. It's very frustrating, especially if you try to fly close to something to scan it for example.

I checked the stats for several engines. The Boron Ray keeps the zero attack time (instantly enters travel mode when hitting the key) and I guess that other Boron engines behave the same. However, Argon, Paranid and Split S/M combat engines (did not check Teladi and Terran) no longer have zero attack time. They now have values in the range 5 to 8 seconds. The attack time for combat engines is even higher than for travel or all-round engines. The only thing that remains better for combat engines is maximum boost duration (and for a quite small margin).Caedes91 wrote: ↑Fri, 21. Feb 25, 19:48 Everything is much more sluggish now. But even worse than this is the poor deceleration (it takes much longer to slow down from travel speed) and the feeling of skating on ice (as mentioned in the previous post).

So that is what the announcement did mean with:
"every manoeuvre smoother, more responsive, and more immersive"

For those who had a chance to play with the new system and rebalance - is the engine selection a more nuanced decision now? I kinda found it a bit lacking up to this point that some of the engines in the game were usually just a bad choice by default, and that Terran engines were almost universally the best choice to make.

Here is a quick breakdown :
Argon : moderate speed, powerful boost than keep speed for long, mediocre travel. Good for skilled players, bad for beginners and AI.
Teladi : moderate speed and boost, travel speed below average accel above average. The most balanced engines, perfect for beginners.
Paranid : above average speed, boost drains quickly, travel high speed and moderate accel. Good for (mid/long range) trading, mining, and the AI.
Split : highest top speed, moderate boost, worst travel travel speed. Combat specialists (especially S/M), and not much else.
Terran : lowest top speed, good boost that recharge quickly, travel speed below average but highest accel. Good for beginners and short range operations.
Boron : average speed, poor boost, travel speed very high but lowest accel (no charge time too). Good for long range trading/mining.

Huh. Someone said Terran has no charge time too. Guess that is false then.Geek wrote: ↑Sat, 22. Feb 25, 12:56 Here is a quick breakdown :

Thanks. Although I'll note it's funny that it isn't the Argon that are the jack of all trades. Since for a long time that seems to have been their thing.
Does the AI use boost okay at least? My fleet is TER engines and I'm sure as hell not going to do a mass refit lol.

(at least for S ships) Terran have 1s charge time for combat and all-round and 0s for travel engines.

So what’s the best engine for S scout now?
I tried to fit a PAR Engine on Moreya, well duh it has faster travel speed, but takes forever to reach it. If you travel from gate to gate, you’ll be halfway through the path when you hit top speed, if not further. So for now, I keep sticking to the TER engines. But maybe I’m missing something.
