Please don't turn this into yet another general US politics thread.

Need to wait to see what 5070 benchmarks are but looks like another moderate/small performance uplift in nvidias newest gen cards if you ignore ai/frame gen. 1080p and 1440p show the lowest improvements for the 5090 which is sort of expected due to cpu limitations in a way. New Transformer model vs cnn looks better but still blurry at distances. The new dlss improvements for ~20xx-50xx cards seems to give about 10% fps increase.
Rumor: Amd dealers hit with price decreases and amd stock is stuck until retailers and amd figure out how to adjust for the difference in the prices retailers paid vs the new lower msrp. Amd is also doing some software upgrades.

GPU pricing has left me behind, I'm not willing to pay what they are asking.burger1 wrote: ↑Fri, 24. My locale settings in Google Maps shouldn't be affected. It's still French Fries and Gulf of Mexico

This is a crazy one and a warning, do not talk about Linux on Facebook as Linux has now been classed as malware and a cybersecurity threat by Facebook, and they are actively closing and banning accounts that talk about Linux, this is not a joke it is actually happening.

Re: Random News not worthy of own thread
Studies show that 73,4 % of internet users will believe your nonsense if you mention that this is not a joke it is actually happening. Only 20 % of internet users will ask for an actual source, while the rest didn't understand what you wanted from them in the first place. Apparently these numbers change drastically the more exclamation marks you use. This is not a joke, it is actually true.

If you think I'm joking, it's a pretty easy thing to check, use that thing called the internet, just do a search for Linux on Facebook or even don't take the warning and go and start a topic about Linux on Facebook and see what happens to your account.

Or you could provide a source for your claim. This is what people usually do when they want to back up their assertion.

Re: Random News not worthy of own thread
Google/Bing search 'Linux on Facebook' as at today and there are lots of source claims about this. Which if any to believe is up to the reader and sources are various, but it does seem that *something* unusual is happening about this.

Re: Random News not worthy of own thread
With all the misinformation that there is already present on the internet, can we not expect people to post a source to what they are claiming in the first place is true, especially if they consider it so "crazy" that they feel they have to warn someone?

... or you help the reader to see/find several different correlating sources and decide for themselves rather than post just one source that may or may not be the best for universal credibility. As I said, the reader should always decide and not the just the poster.

Re: Random News not worthy of own thread
That may be, but I'm supportive of the "this is random news...", which, by implication of news... requires a source.Alan Phipps wrote: ↑Tue, 28. Otherwise it's "Random statements" and everyone can go "google" to find what is being referred to. At which point, it's hardly news. It's "try verify random statement..."
Instead of trying to defend random statements, we should be asking for *some* form of actual quality barrier.
otherwise, in other news, they've found a fish that looks like Hitler!
of course, the actual value of this post is now entirely predicated around everyone who reads it having to go off and start finding sources to support my statement.
Bit pithy, but frankly, worth it.

As we are not using URLs anymore (
). As everywhere, there is a new rift forming in the US parts of Linux communities. X/twitter URLs are getting blocked, meta company blocks back, FOSS zealots campaign against those who do not use pure social media platforms (e.g.: blue sky: "bad"; mastodon: "good").
Happy new year & all that

Re: Random News not worthy of own thread
AFAIK, Facebook runs on Linux servers. This was mentioned when Red Hat "shifted focus", i.e. discontinued CentOS and started CentOS Stream. That Facebook pulls/pulled sources from CentOS/Stream and applies their own patches, i.e. creates their own distro.
What server has and what you can say on it are naturally unrelated.

Re: Random News not worthy of own thread
I did a soft exit from Facebook awhile ago. This platform is now actively targetting me with misinformation, click bait, or other yellow press. I dont mind to block 10 links every day, but it gets tiresome.
In other news, what grinds my gears. A cool article today that I will not link, about a fissure in Africa that will eventually split part of Africa and probably form a new ocean. Interesting stuff. And then it asks a question, what social and economic impact it will have on the region?

Hopefully we luck out on this one as well

so, a math question, how many Teslas would the asteroid need to be impacted with, by the American Space Force, to be fully diverted from its possible collision path?
