I'd like an XL battleship DLC

This would be something to round out existing factions. Argon, Teladi, Paranid, Boron, and Split would all benefit from getting XL sized battleships, ships which on their own could go head to head with an Asgard or an I and possibly win.

Honest question: Why do you want a battleship for each race?

Is it not boring, if every race has the same ships?
No need for you to then adapt do different fleets or learn new approaches on how to roleplay as one?

Do you think it is boring that each race has a destroyer?

Each race battleship need not be identical. They can have different strengths and weaknesses and specialties.

I think logically, any faction that sees Terrans coming through their systems with an Asgard would say to themselves, we need to develop something to match that.

Why I want a battleship for each race? Because I like battleships honestly. And if I want to role-playing as a specific race other than Terrans, I would like to be able to build a big bad battleship for my chosen faction.

Isn't there a saying somewhere about how the customer is always right in matters of taste? :)

And since what I propose would be a DLC, then nobody would be forced to get it. Those who think it would be a bad idea could simply not buy it.

But you yourself say to go head to head with an Asgard on it's own. So that already instantly kills variety because you are already asking for something very specific.
Otherwise VIG for instance would absolutely own the Terran fleet despite not having any destroyers or battleships.

I'll rather see more specialized ships instead. Like a Boron XL with turreted versions of the Ray main guns to keep enemies pinned down. Paranid has the Hyp. Split should get something focused on speed, so I think something like the Hyp but tuned to be more Split like. Teladi could use something like the Barbarossa frankly, but with more focus on the cargo size instead. Or a TEL Hyp-sized vessel but with the cargo aspect. Argon goes with L drone carriers.

My take: I play the game a lot with "one faction only" (or maybe "two factions only") and like certain faction designs more than the others. So everytime I play those factions without a battleship I simply have none. Which is kind of lame TBH. Also, when I say "Battleship" than this is to me not a carbon copy of the Asgards but "weapon platform with lots of turrets (both L & M)" which I can fully customize.
Another thing [that bothers me]: the Borons for example are heavily gimped in that "customization regard" as they have no ship which has more than two L turret slots. While I get it that it's not in their nature I really hate the fact that I can't even equip say 6 of the awesome Boron L turrets on one ship. So a more "peaceful" Boron Battleship with 6 (or 8) L turret slots would be an awesome addition to their fleet.

If you want an example of what I would like to see, just look at VRO. Heck, you guys hired the author of that mod. Just pick his brains, Shuulo has the right ideas when it comes to ships, combat balance, and variety.

To be honest, I play vanilla so I can report bugs, to help bugs in the base game get ironed out, and because mod support long term is not guaranteed. If VRO was the official version of the game, I personally would enjoy it much more. And VRO has battleships for every faction. And the game feels better for it.

I also like how VRO has toned down the Asgard main death beam, it feels way overpowered in vanilla X4. The VRO Asgard is still incredibly powerful due to its abundance of large turrets with long range weapons, but it is not a thing that instantly kills Ks anymore with a single beam shot, which to me seems just silly

Yip, can relate to that. Nothing in X4 vanilla beats the feeling of seeing (and hearing) a Split Tiger packed with gauss turrets.

I wouldn't want a battleship for each faction, but I'd like it very much if more factions got some unique ships of their own. The Split for example could easily get a battleship, they'd be the kind to build one. The Teladi meanwhile I'd see designing XL transport ships. Something that can haul absurd amounts of materials around, perhaps even with a universal hold capacity (so container, solid and liquid).

The other factions I don't have obvious ideas for but there's certainly some gameplay niches that ships (not necessarily XL only) can provide that would make for interesting use cases. Things like say a L or perhaps even just an M size drone carrier which only hauls combat drones rather than S fighters, but would be cheap to build (and/or perhaps some different/stronger combat drone variants to use in general) and replace.

I wouldn't see this being enough to be like a paid DLC, but as normal additions to the game they'd be neat.

Plus as always (and a little bit sidetracking here) I'd love to see more faction specific equipment like for example turrets based on faction specific weapons that can only be mounted on the respective faction ship hulls (similar to how only TER/PIO/Yaki ships can mount High Energy weapons). I wouldn't go as far as only allowing specific faction equipment like with the Borons, but some choices unique to factions for their ships to add flavour if so desired.

Not particularly interested in battleships myself. I rarely use those we already have, in general finding them too cumbersome & frankly annoying for practical use. Do however very much like the Hyperion (it's an almost perfect ship for the way I like to play X4), so would prefer if future DLC were focused on similar ships for other factions, rather than more battleships that I'll likely never use.

( I would really like to see more ships like the Guppy, we have mods for that but I would love to see it on vanilla )
Now it's up to us to see what faction excels to what, I mean the Ray is surely not the Osaka, which isn't the Raptor, and most likely not the Phoenix etc etc ...
Since Destroyers ( and I believe Battleships ) have main guns, it gives even more leeway for Egosoft to craft something unique for each of them.

Now I would like to see something that can haul a lot of ressources for Teladi, while Split stays on the idea to have a glass cannon and purely warring vision, etc etc.
I'm sure there could be enough space ( no pun intended ) to role play or choose a battleship or the other, depending on their raw stats and utilities.

Yip, unique faction battleships would be awesome. I don't need that Asgard doom laser on every battleship. And each faction has preferences / priorities. Like the TEL need some heavy duty cargo vessel, SPL a faster one than the Raptor, ARG something with more L turrets like the Behemoth, BOR something with L more turrets and (even) more shields than the Ray (less turrets like the others factions though because "peaceful"), ....

Trying to understand. So you want each faction to have a battleship, but you want each battleship to be different. So... what's a battleship?

The Syn is "just" an ATF destroyer. The Asgard is a battleship.

A bit more of my personal definition (I bet others chime in soon ^^):

The Erlking would be such a "platform" - but it isn't fully customizable. And of course the visuals should meet the faction it is produced by.

As for the "uniqueness" for each ship - TER need a Xenon killer -> Asgard deathray; BOR need just more L turrets as the Ray is gimped in that regard -> mediocre battleship in the overall comparison, but lots of shields and more turrets than the Ray; TEL always want to transport more cargo so their battleship has more turrets than a destroyer and a lot of cargo space (a TEL Barbarossa so to speak) and so on ...

My previous comment still stands. Load up VRO, take a look at the battleships (XL sized) there, and you'll have an idea of what I'd like.

L sized mini carriers, like the Guppy, for each faction would be nice too.

On top of what has been said earlier, to me a Battleship is a military grade XL ship. Which means an ultimate ship of the line so to say.
( like how the first class ships or flagships were in the past )

The Ray doesn't play anything close like a Rattlesnake ( I previously mixed it with a Raptor ) or an Osaka, despite being named Destroyers on their own form, and that's totally fine and I believe what some have been asking here to keep that way.
We basically can spam Destroyers after a certain threshold of a playthrough, I think we shouldn't for a Battleship.

Those XL ships should naturally take the faction's own philosophy to the next level so to say, but be a perfectly capable offensive ship on their own form as opposed to say, a carrier.
The Erlking is indeed as chew-ie said, a step in the right direction to me. :D
