Enhance Our Game: Customizable Uniforms, Soldier Renaming, and a New HQ Lobby!

May I add a suggestion to the devs ? I would be happy if you could include features such as renaming the pilots and soldiers working for us, and possibly assigning uniforms based on their ranks. The uniforms should be customizable by the players according to their preferences (colors, models, logos, etc.). Also, consider adding a lobby in the HQ where we can send our pilots and soldiers to stay when we are building a new fleet, for example.

Agreed. Even just let us give them Nicknames if they don't want us unrealistically renaming NPC names. Oh and how much a greater choice in costumes and the ability to customise be wlclomed! Did you know X4 started with everyone in random clothing? The quality wasn't great, but all Egosoft need do is update the graphical quality/anims and allow those back in. I have made several requests. many of us have. We just have to keep at it until they get round to implementing some of these.
1. Please do more on NPC civilian/uniform variety, and bio customisations, Devs.
2. Stations need sirens/warnings when enemy is close in numbers or Station in danger of destruction (in Sandbox).

I would like to push the button even further on your points, as I would like to choose if my people are wearing an headset or not.
To me this is the most pressing situation as those faces weirdly stand out on a bad way sometimes, since you typically get bombarded by those "order acknowlegments", it follows you everywhere and I don't want to swap my 4/5 star pilots for that :lol:

As Socratus said, I believe those wears are still in the game in some form, as I downloaded a mod that could retrieve it, it's not much but at least it gives a little bit of diversity.

What I'm curious about is how are NPCs generated(?) or whatever you called it currently. Like are the uniforms and the head separate pieces or is it all in one or what.
Also I vaguely recall that the beta had some issues with NPC appearances too recently, but I can't recall the specifics like whether they changed completely or just changed clothes.

Judging by how " unmodular " they look like in comparison to say ships or stations, my guess is there is a limited amount of variation for any given race and that's about it.
Most headgears are found on " Marines " anyway, or Yaki people as far as I know.

I suspect this was a planned but scrapped feature for X4.
Since 1.0 there is a line in the menu "Player Informations / Statistic" about "installed Clothing Mods" (next to "installed Ship Mods"...)

From the very 1.0 I wished I could set up a proper dress code for my crew.

It would be good if Egosoft would yet again to the NPC model overhaul and switching from legacy tools to something that would be usable by modders.

Yesterday, I was moving 4-star pilots to the newly built miners, and it was a headache to assign a 4-star captain to each ship since I needed to have a free room on one ship to dispatch all the crew. That's why having a lobby or barracks in our own HQ would solve that problem.

I like the Alien piloting my main ship, and I want to bring him with me every time I change ships, but I can't remember his name :P .
So, editing names or adding nicknames would help a lot.

X4 is not a game for young people with great memories, I think. Most of us are probably over 40 years old. So, please help us enjoy the game without having to use pen and paper :mrgreen:.

Another tip if you want to curate your crew and spend time afk.
What I do is take a L/XL ship, preferably one with a lot of crew stations on the bridge. I fill it up with crew from the species I want and just sit on the bridge. Fire anyone I don't want and send anyone I want off to another ship, which is normally a builder ship to train morale/engineering. It's not perfect, but it's a lot easier than flying around trying to find crew and you don't have to deal with the lag of stations. Normally I use aux ships because they can take a lot of crew, so plenty of time before I need to replenish.

Great idea! I'll use both pieces of advice (yours and the one from Raptor34) in the meantime while waiting for Egosoft to add more RPG depth to the game.

That is one of the reasons I like the Paranid, spent hours looking for matching uniforms for Captain and Engineers, especially the Engineers that would appear on deck.. If any crew randomly appeared in cockpit area in material clothes or skirted they would be dismissed to work elsewhere. Traders and Miners would all have the same procedures.. Not fussy about marines, they were very disposable.

I often use sticky notes that I stick to the screen as well. :lol:
