How do non-fleet ships handle repairs and resupply automatically?

Post by Raptor34 »

According to a dev, with the new position defense command for stations, the station does not perform like a carrier when it comes to repairs/resupply but instead acts like normal station subordinates instead.
For me though this is something I've never really kept a close eye on, and the only time I actually look at them is when one of them get's blown up, so I don't really know if they take hits normally and what happens and all that minutiae.

So alright, I'll outline roughly what I'm planning with this and anyone with the experience can tell me what I could expect of the non-fleet resupply scripts.
Like I'm planning to have a station with an admin to access the PD command, storage and SPPs and a bunch of L maint bays on it. Then I'll set the apparently only one PD group I have with a bunch of ships, including specifically missile destroyers and missile armed S/M ships guarding a gate. If this was like a carrier fleet, then I'll expect them to automatically fly back to rearm using close loop at their home station, which should work better than aux ships because I would have multiple L bays for mass resupply and multiple L container storage to actually resupply them en masse. But what I do not know is if the normal resupply script is smart enough to resupply at home base. Or if it would prefer a nearby aux ship or something, but I can remedy that by removing it since it is no longer necessary. What I actually worry about is that they ignore their home station in sector and fly off to who knows where, and/or they just stay in the field with empty missile bays.
