Re: U.S. Presidential Election 2024
So the polls are starting to come in after last night's debate, and it is not looking good for Trump/Vance where 6 of the 7 main swing states are all now showing a lead for Harris/Wallz, which is pretty much unheard of. Sounds like a lot of swing voters didn't like Vance, or especially they didn't like his comments about Trump's 2020 election result, where he basically refuse to answer the question, it's amazing how a simple little question could end the Trump/Vance campaign.

Also don't forget Trump's meltdown over abortion, and his stance on that. I would say that is a far bigger issue, and will hurt him even more.

Seems we are almost back in the old dark age - Trump is going on about [criminal] immigrants having "bad genes"...
Bad enough that the mindset is still there - but that politicians talk about it to make a point [during elections]. This is really the age of decadence.

While racism was never gone, this old biological racism seemed more rare in American public discourse from what I was able to gather over the last years. It is also pretty clear that he is only talking about specific groups of migrants, after all he is married to one and had Elon Musk next to him during a recent campaign event. I think it is fair to say that Trump means non-whites whenever he says the word migrant.

MAGA has always been a dog whistle to the white nationalists. the whole purpose is to undo civil rights for non-whites and women.

I don't watch much of David Pakman's stuff, but I got this one on the list and I clicked on it as the title got me, at the time I didn't realize that it was a 47-minute-long video, but I ended up watching all of it and I do recommend watching it, especially of you are a young Trump supporter as he certainly opened up the guy who was interviewing him to some truths he didn't know of, and this is something I think is a major problem right now in America, Americans just don't get it and for some reason they are incapable of just verifying what they are being told, and this is on both sides but more so on the Trump side of things, as Trump struggles with telling the truth. Anyway, it is a very interesting interview, and the young guy did a better job than most mainstream news reporters in America do right now.

Re: U.S. Presidential Election 2024
We're just as bad (well nearly) but this thread is about the American election and voting, so of course I'm going to throw the stones at Americans, unfortunately you may not like it but right now it is the way of things it's not meant as personal. For some reason even though we have the means to verify things, some of us just refuse to use that medium even when it is at their fingertips, I think it's mainly because some of us just don't want to know the truth, then also with that interview there was one thing that also hits the mark and that was that the algorithms of social media don't show people the truth and what they need to see, they show them what they want to see, so if your politics are right wing misinformation conspiracy theory, then that is what that social media platform of your choice is going to show you. So while a lot of the problem is down to the individuals, it's not totally their fault and the likes of Twitter, Facebook and YouTube are also to blame and have to take some responsibility.

Re: U.S. Presidential Election 2024
But right now that is how it is coming over, we're looking at it from the outside, and it's not pretty. Just look at the fact that one of the people who could become the next president has recently been found guilty of not just rape but also 34 counts of felony crimes, and he is one of the main runners for the presidency. Your own highest court SCOTUS has done everything possible to help him get elected, take a step back and look at that, your own Supreme court of the United States is actively helping a rapist and convicted felon to get elected to the Presidency, how are we meant to look at it, especially as for years you have been preaching to the rest of the world how great your country is, and how we should be just like you.
Remember, we've also recently had an election, and we also had our Trump called Boris Johnson, if you paid attention you would have noticed he was nowhere to be seen during the election, that's because we got rid of him for getting caught telling a lie. And you are crying because we don't understand how a country can even imagine electing a rapist felon into power, and a lot of that seems to be because a large portion of your populace either don't know, don't want to know, believe it's true or even care. You cannot hide your head in the sand and expect the rest of the world to ignore any of this, and then complain when we do notice and mention it.
As for generalizing, it's your country it's just like I never voted to leave the EU, but I have to accept that we were stupid and did leave it as a country, just like you have to accept you are part of what is happening in America right now. As I said, this is not a personal attack on you or any one American, it's a personal attack on your whole country, and what it currently is and stands for. Seriously, I'm sorry you don't like it and cannot do anything about it, but that's the way of things. And even if he doesn't win, you are still going to have to live with the fact that basically half your country are going to vote for him, a 34 count felon and rapist, and what's their excuse for doing so.
I'll tell you this, if our Supreme court acted like yours is, there would be massive demonstration against them here, we wouldn't just sit back and accept it, we would be demanding their removal.

I also agree with felter on this, I don't think he is attacking you personally Vertigo 7, but from an outsider prospective, America is going downhill. There should be no way Trump should be running. the senate didn't do the right thing, your SCOTUS is protecting him, And some of them seem corrupt, lets not forget about Loose Cannon.
I think part of the problem is the education level of the states, I seen reports that many adults aren't that well educated. Many seem to be 12 year old standard or less. Plus we have Fox news, So adults take that as gospel but can't process the facts. And lets not forget they had to pay out a fair amount of money for not telling the truth, plus I think a voting machine company is still in the process of suing them as well. It's concerning that a known and convicted felon is still walking free, and still able to run for the WH. Especailly one who is going to be dangerous and a major threat both for America and its allies and could cause heightened tensions. How are we suppose to ignore this? Trump wants to impose tariffs on Chinese goods, and even admitted that the percentage numbers he drivels is made up. Last time he did that, he hit the America farmers badly. yet people seem to trust him on the economy according to polls? I don't see how that can be? I mean there was covid, which hurt the economy, the tariffs made matters worse, but people still trust him. I seen quotes from people who say along the lines of, We Trust Trump, Trump never lies. Plus there are gold star families and purple heart vets who support Trump.
Either they have forgotten what it was like under his presidency, or they just too dumb to put two and two together. Then there is relations with Putin and other dictators, Which should be another warning that he will sell out both America and its allies with a drop of the hat. Plus there is Musk, what is his angle? President for sale. But we have people who believe him and think he will do great for America, when he won't. He will sell out America like he did last time. And with classified docs, Seriously, what will it take for America to wake up and see that Trump is not only a US threat, but a global threat? Especially from a US / American prospective? Its like they don't care, or they are biased as they don't want a woman of colour in office. But instead will hand over power to an evil and corrupt man.
And with the election in its final stretch, People should be worried.

What authority do you think I have to do anything about any of this? I already told you I vote and I told you what my only other recourse is. There is shit else I can do that will have any impact. I don't have the money to buy a judge. I don't have the money to buy a senator or congressperson. I can't make law enforcement do shit. I can't make courts do shit. I can't make state or federal congress do shit. I can't make state or federal senate do shit. I can't make the mayor, commissioner, governor, president do shit. While I certainly do have the right to protest, that doesn't mean they'll listen. SCOTUS doesn't pay attention to you unless you're buying them RVs and luxury vacations. Don't get me started on congress and the senate. You keep saying we're "letting this happen" but I keep asking you what our other options are and you've yet to answer the question. If you have some magical solution, lay it out! Don't keep that shit a secret!felter wrote: ↑Sun, 13. While yes, I am an American citizen, I hold myself to my own standards and I can't control what other people do or don't do. My own father buys into this MAGA bull shit and I can't do anything to stop it, he will not listen to anything reasonable. That's 100% on him as it is the rest of the MAGA morons.
So here's the ask, felter. Stop grouping me in with your attacks on the US. I don't care if you want to call out that there are some idiots over here because I will be the first to tell you we have them by the truck loads. But if you don't qualify your statements then you're grouping me and others that certainly are not idiots in with your attacks. And lemme tell ya something, generalizing like that is no different than attacking a race, gender, religion, et. al.

Re: U.S. Presidential Election 2024
I would say, it's sad that America is heading this way. And sad that those American citizens who still care about America, who still care about their democracy, doesn't have a voice. Even if they see the danger, many sadly do not. Especailly if they are tuned into Fox or some other network that twist the truth. The real issue I think from what I read, is that the real power are the billionaires. Those who do control the media, (many of them) and its likely they are the ones responsible for the road that America is heading toward. Even though they might not yet control who gets voted in or out. I think with this project 2025 and if Trump wins, then they will probably have absolute power. I know this, because Trump wants to be a dictator, he has said this a couple or times now. This project will reduce the rights of every citizen.
Voting is your only chance to stop this, I realise that. But if Trump does get back into the WH, your voting rights, and other rights will be stripped from you. Again, so sad, that for many Americans, they don't see the danger.

Also very frustrating for those Americans that see the danger as they are basically screaming into a void, trying to warn people that they are about to step off a cliff, only for the people they are trying to warn to shout back that the cliff is just a myth made up by gay FEMA employees who are Mexican-Chinese Communist spies or whatever the flavor of brain rot of the week is. It is like talking to a wall that can’t hear but can shout back.matthewfarmery wrote: ↑Mon, 14. Oct 24, 12:57 I would say, it's sad that America is heading this way. So much this. Thats why I'm so frustrated with the frankly stupid suggestions that we need to have a sit down and listen to their grievances and try to understand their point of view and blah blah blah more stupid hippy things. You think after 10 years of dealing with these morons that is even possible? These folks are not capable of rational discussion. They can't handle anything real. They've learned it's far easier to just do what Faux News tells them to do so that they don't have to think or feel on their own, the tv does it for them. Mean while, they inflict suffering on everyone around them and whine like big ol' babies when they get called out for it.clakclak wrote: ↑Mon, 14. It is quite frankly frustrating. Than again it also is nothing new or unique to America. I think Gibson summed up the essence of the unreachable TV brained audience rather well:Vertigo 7 wrote: ↑Mon, 14. Oct 24, 22:46So much this. That being said, I think of this quote quite often when thinking about my own media consumption. I certainly use media more than is healthy (this includes this site as well) and I often wonder if we as humanity might have collectivly reached a state close to what Gibson described and those most extrem among us are just harbingers of where humanity might end up in the coming years/generations.William Gibson in Idoru (1996) wrote:“[Slitscan's audience] is best visualized as a vicious, lazy, profoundly ignorant, perpetually hungry organism craving the warm god-flesh of the anointed. Personally I like to imagine something the size of a baby hippo, the color of a week-old boiled potato, that lives by itself, in the dark, in a double-wide on the outskirts of Topeka. It's covered with eyes and it sweats constantly. The sweat runs into those eyes and makes them sting. It has no mouth, Laney, no genitals, and can only express its mute extremes of murderous rage and infantile desire by changing the channels on a universal remote. Or by voting in presidential elections.”

Re: U.S. Presidential Election 2024
Faux News talking head, Geraldo Rivera, just rebelled against his orange overlord and endorsed Harris in a rather lengthy post on Twitter.
I mean... why now? Dude's had years to condemn that orange traitor.Sore Loser
With three weeks to go until Election Day, Donald J. Trump stands a reasonable chance of becoming the 47th President of the United States. Despite assassination attempts, impeachments, special counsels, felony convictions and hundreds of millions in civil penalties, most polls show his race against V.P. Kamala Harris is too close to call.
The first time he ran for president in 2016, he was coming off the last season of Celebrity Apprentice. I had a front row seat as a finalist on that final season and marveled at his audacity with his checkered past to seek the highest office in the land. Then, in the blink of an eye, he went from novice to formidable challenger to victorious over Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
As President he was a loyal friend, who allowed regular access. My resulting coverage gave him the benefit of most doubts. His presidency was underrated. Throughout his first big scandal in office, the 2017-2019 Mueller Investigation into allegations Trump conspired with Russia to undermine our political process, I stuck with him, deeply suspicious of constant efforts to undermine his Administration.
The last time President Trump and I spoke was Friday, November 13, 2020, when he called me at home. It was ten days after his narrow lost to Joe Biden. He was calling to get my take on the controversies surrounding the election, which appeared to have been decided by a handful of votes in several states. I asked him what he would do if the vote count remained against him. As I reported on Fox News that same morning, Friday the 13th, he told me he was a reasonable man and would do the right thing if that time came.
It never did. Instead, President Trump embarked on an increasingly menacing campaign to discredit the 2020 election. With a motley supporting cast of increasingly fringe characters, he careened from one bizarre theory to the next, offering no meaningful proof, that he had been robbed by the Democrats.
None exists. If you are a Republican, Donald Trump has made a liar of you. He has coaxed and intimidated tens of millions into pretending he was reelected in 2020, and that the election was stolen.
In furtherance of that Big Lie, on January 6, 2021, Trump incited and unleashed the violent attack on the center of democracy, the U.S. Capitol for which he was Impeached. As his followers trashed that sacred space, he was on the phone urging Vice President Mike Pence essentially to overturn the will of the American people. Pence refused to put Trump ahead of the Constitution. Trump stabbed the Constitution in the back.
Maybe you are inclined to vote for the former president anyway, because he says he will cut your taxes or build the border wall or pull out of NATO or put tariffs on China. However, you justify voting for Trump, adopting his big lie about the stolen election makes you a liar.
Better to admit he lost last time but that you don’t care because a Harris presidency would be a disaster, or you admire his defiance in the face of an assassin’s bullet. Just don’t pretend that he got robbed in 2020. That is a lie. Former President Trump is a sore loser who cannot be trusted to honor the Constitution. That is why I am voting for Kamala Harris to be our 47th President.
Reap what you sow.

Re: U.S. Presidential Election 2024
It does make you wonder? indeed why now? No doubt Trump will say stuff about him and call him words to try and discredit him. I wouldn't put it past Trump. Still, its a decent post, and a clear sign that some people are standing against Trump and his BS lies. The problem is, how many will stand for him and get him back into power?
Edit
Trump turned the Town hall Q&A session into a 40 minute music festival. (39 minutes)

That is just not normal. what is more, Trump said, that air conditioning was too expensive, and several people past out due to the heat. Not watched it fully, but that man is right out of his mind. simply because he probably didn't want to answer any questions at all. What the heck are his campaign staff thinking? Seriously, Lost for words. Sure he is getting desperate, but this is just another bad low, and with a short time until we know if he loses or not.
Edit 2
This could be a result of dementia, or a another PTSD issue? its hard to say, but this is only going to get worse. I also read that he going to sitdown and take questions from an all female audience, (not sure when that is happening?) but if he does this shit with this Q&A rinse and repeat. But imagine if this was Harris or Biden? The media would be all over them to stand aside. Double standards.

Re: U.S. Presidential Election 2024
my 2 cents on this being American problem
no country I think is immune from what's happening in US. No country is immune to what's happening in Russia.
we must be vigilant to stay in the loop on these events, and influence people around us who might be indifferent or indecisive.
this isn't possible with everyone, but it is with some
I wouldn't spend energy on people who are supporters of white nationalism, fascism or any flavor in between. But there are others who are indifferent. It seems there's a greater number there
never accept the phrase that politics is too dirty to talk about. It must be talked about
