Apologies if the answer is in plain sight and I just don't see it, but when I launch X4 using the X4_nonsteam.exe, all my game settings (graphics, sound, control customizations, and even saved games) are "not found", giving me the default fresh install settings. I'm guessing that using this exe causes X4 to look in some different folder than Documents/Egosoft/X4/... Could someone point me in the right direction? I'm assuming I can just copy the files from the original save / setting folder to the new one, wherever it is, and I'll be back in business.
Thanks!

They're just one folder up from where they used to be. In "X4" instead of the numbered folder inside it. At least in windows.

On the contrary, that's exactly where the nonsteam.exe does look for it's data. Also in that folder is a subfolder with some random number, this is where the online steam version looks for it's data. So copy your save from there back to Documents/Egosoft/X4/save/...Captain_Canard wrote: ↑Wed, 31. That worked! I was hoping I could symlink the Steam folder back up to the main folder, but Steam isn't buying it. Maybe a hard link would do the trick. However, I now have a bigger problem. I play with a PS5 controller, and removing Steam from the equation messes all my mappings up in X4. I think this is because Steam is doing translation between the controller and the game, which is removed when Steam is not running. It does seem that "virgin" X4 recognizes my controller, but in a bad and maybe even broken way.
I guess I'll just stick with Steam for now as a necessary evil, keeping the nonsteam launcher handy in case Steam breaks (which it does from time to time), and when it does break, then I'll cross my fingers and toes that I can get my controller to work properly with X4 directly.
