Hey all,
I'm setting up numerous factories that handle several wares each. I basically use a "Tiered" approach, thus:
- Tier 0 - just a warehouse gathering ALL Raw Resources
- Tier 1 - Items that only need Energy Cells and a Raw Resource to produce. Example: Refined Metals and Silicon Wafers
- Tier 2 - Items that need ECs + a Tier 1 Resource to produce: Example: Microchips and Engine Parts
- Tier 3 - Items that need ECs + Tier 2 (and some Tier 1 potentially) Resources to produce: Example: Advanced Electronics, Turret Components.
As as inter-station logistics go, I use a purely PULL model - more reliable than letting the Manager assign ships. So, each Station just BUYS the resources it needs, it does not sell. As there's no Buy/Sell only option (which would be REALLY useful) I use the new "Ware basket" option, which is pretty good. In my case, I'm limiting it to just the resources the station needs (Buy only), not products. So, for every single trader I add, I have to customise the Basket again. Not a massive issue, but a little clunky to have to do the same task again and again. I was hoping there was some way to save a Ware basket and apply it to ship(s) quickly, but I don't think there is.
Note: my stations are all in quite close proximity. The "Tier 0" aka Mining Station is elsewhere, with access to all raw resources, and it's built up quite a stock while it's been active. This is then shipped to ONE sector where all other stations are located. As such, using M-Class Transporters is by far the quickest way to transfer stuff between stations. So, I add many of those vs. one larger much slower Freighter. Works well.
Note 2: I cannot of course use trade rules to block trading, as that would break the ships BUYING those products that reported to the next station up. The Ware basket approach works well - though a strict Buy/Sell only option would work better - but it'd be nice to be able to copy a prior setting for speed of setting up. When adding a Dozen new Transporters as things ramp up, it becomes a somewhat irksome step to set things up multiple times, rather than setting it up ONCE and then applying that to other ships.
This is very much a quality of life thing. The functionality is there with the Ware basket, and very much appreciated of course. It'd just benefit from being nicer to use.
Basically, imagine being able to set up a Custom Basket, we then name and save. We can get simply tell a ship to use that basket preset. Easy to use. We already have custom "lists" for Trade Rules, sector travel and other things, so I think it fits nicely.
Is there any way to copy a Ware Basket?

I wonder if it’s possible to make most traders simply mimic a station trading commander so you only need to configure every commander?
Edit: tested, mimic would require 3 star pilots which is impractical to spam until late game

I think setting something at a station level might be useful. However, for me, a simple (conceptually) Buy/Sell restriction combined with the current Basket option and being able to SAVE such a configuration would make things a lot easier.

I’m suggesting a potential fix is to make trade for commander itself a separate behavior that accepts mimicing. As of current version, mimic only do the auto trade mimicing which isn’t even necessary trading for the said commander. Mimicing implementation allows more granular control of trading fleets for a station, for example, you want exactly 10 demeters to trade energy and the others go buy whatever previous tier item. You only will need to configure two commander’s basket and the rest will be automatically applied via mimicing.
