Terran Cadet Character race-swapped?

Was about to start a new game. Did not do that since version 4.0

I only play Terran. This is the reason why I don't play custom games. I legitimately want to roleplay as Terran from the beginning. Not some random, who stumbles upon Sol.

Now that patch 7.0 came out, I wanted to restart, only to realize, that the Terran Cadet character Raibu Hariken was race-swapped from a white hobo to a black guy? And no option to choose the character?

I don't want to be forced like that, so is there a way to change the character, like in other gamestarts or midgame?

EDIT: Took a look at the character from now and older save. Doesn't matter if you start on 4.0. Once you update, the character changes without your consent.

I wonder if they changed something internally and now it points to the wrong model or something? Seems like a very weird thing to do intentionally to retcon the whole appearance of a character people are actively playing.

It’ll be an oversight, I highly doubt egosoft is pushing DEI and politics in their games.

I agree with you, but when it doesn't matter, why did they change in the first place?
Nobody would mind them adding a new diverse character. I would even endorse that, but to go and change existing character is inappropriate.

Instead of fixing the game, for example rebalancing copy-paste turret stats, they push this pointless change and release this worthless and most hated DLC to date.

There's no ingame option. But you can mod it, as explained here.

I am sure this is an oversight, they changed a lot with the character models, and if you started in 4.0 you have an older model description which probably was mapped wrong. Report it as a bug on the Tech Support Forum. I am quite sure this is not intentional.

I haven't checked the appearance of the Terran Cadet character in 7.0, but he originally looked like just like Trevor Noah (the South African comedian) to me, not a "white hobo." He may have been mistaken for a white guy when looking at the cockpit from external camera view, but in cutscenes and whatnot he always looked biracial/light skinned black.

That would not surprise me either. There has been some... unusual shading on characters at times.

I guess some point during couple upgrade since original DLC version (Terran DLC), So yes, it's was changed skins at some point during patch, but I'm not sure when was that patch change that skin, original Terran Cadet main character was white guy while wingman was black guys. Now, Terran Cadet character is black or dark brown skins, that was used to be white skins or lighter skins.

At that time I was angry, that you who supposedly hailed from the technologically more advanced Terrans, sported a dirty neckbeard and were wearing these stupid pajamas instead of the sleek Terran uniforms.

Are you 100% sure your game wasn't modded or something during that time? I played the DLC right from the get-go, and the Terran Cadet was wearing the standard white Terran uniform and looked just like Trevor Noah (check google images for him hosting The Daily Show if you're not familiar with who he is or what he looks like).

Yes, my settings were a bit different. Bit brighter with other color profile. So as you said, the orginal was not completely fair-skinned. And I was talking of how I don't like, that wear the Terran military/captain suit. These overalls just suck. But it is still far different from what we got now. Here is a screenshot from the original character, taken from one of Cpt. Collins videos.

@Egosoft, please fix this oversight. If intentional, then please at least add options for different character and possibility to customize them, even midgame. The setting is in the far future. If you need to adhere to lore, just say, that it's advanced plastic surgery. But this time add all of them. black, mixed, white, asian and of course female, male, undefined etc.

They changed character models (updated them) a few versions back. That affected all characters in the game including the ones that players use (they share face models with npcs). Dal Busta looks completely different, Boso also now got updated with the Boron DLC. I don't see any problem with the cadet looking different. I didn't even realize it. There are only a handful of different faces in the game anyway.

I doubt they will make much about the characters in X4 now, but maybe we can hope for some better models, options, and character animations in X5. I really, really want to be able to craft my own character.

Had a 25 day old Terran Cadet save from back when CoH released. I'm for all skin tones being represented in a game, but retconning it on older saves is something I have never seen before, and hope not to again. I'm fair skinned irl, so I always play characters around the same skin tone unless there is no choice. It's as easy as that. I won't even play the alien races in X4 because it ruins my immersion.

I sincerely hope they never do this again. And why not offer a simple character customization for all starts (like select your preferred model out of the few that exist in the game), which would please everyone and leave nobody out. I guess from now on I'll only play Custom Starts, which is arguably the best way to play anyway for a veteran player.
