Version 6.2 (latest version): Cockpit Glass Reflections - Slider has absolutely no effect

Post by Good Wizard »

Hello,

I have a problem with the setting 'Cockpit Glass Reflections':
If I read this correctly, this should influence the sun reflections (depending on the position of the ship obviously) in my cockpit window, which sometimes occludes the view in the center.

I do not want this, and it is much too strong anyway (IMHO, YMMV). So I use the setting 'Cockpit Glass Reflections' in Graphic Settings and can select a value between 0 and 100. Only - changing this from 0 to 100 or back to 3 has absolutely no effect? There is something fishy.

I MAY have a problem with an older settings file, which I do not change or delete by hand, just using it and changing it via settings in the game. I looked at it: Does somebody know which setting is for the 'Cockpit Glass Reflections'?

Here an excerpt from my config.xml, from the beginning to the begin of 'sound options', which are not included:

Code: Select all

  <!-- graphic options -->
  <fullscreen>false</fullscreen>
  <borderless>true</borderless>
  <antialiasing>ssaa_4x</antialiasing>
  <presentmode>immediate</presentmode>
  <colorcorrection>0</colorcorrection>
  <gamma>1.05</gamma>
  <capturehq>false</capturehq>
  <gfxquality>0</gfxquality>
  <!-- high gfx preset -->
  <shaderquality>2</shaderquality>
  <shadows>2</shadows>
  <softshadows>true</softshadows>
  <ssao>2</ssao>
  <glow>0</glow>
  <lodfactor>0.95</lodfactor>
  <effectdistance>0.85</effectdistance>
  <distortion>false</distortion>
  <disableradar>false</disableradar>
  <radarquality>1</radarquality>
  <ssr>true</ssr>
  <ssrquality>medium</ssrquality>
  <texturequality>high</texturequality>
  <chromaticaberration>false</chromaticaberration>
  <volumetric>2</volumetric>
Any hints? (Just deleting the config.xml is possible, but painful, because I would like to retain my current setting, but can be done...)

Thank you.

Re: Version 6.2 (latest version): Cockpit Glass Reflections?

Post by Good Wizard »

I experimented a bit, starting with just renaming my config.xml, so the game created a new one. Looking a the differences, there are now several entries, which are new? If I change the environment map settings (as discussed in this viewtopic.php?f=192&t=452972&p=5168923& ... t#p5168923 thread) the parameters are NOT added to my old config.xml?? Why?

But anyway, with the new config.xml it becomes clear: The slider 'Cockpit Glass Reflections' has absolutely no effect!

Since it was discussed during the beta, and linolafett said, he would report this to the right person - was anything done? Or is it intentional that the slider is just for show?

Because the glass reflections (the sun in Argon Prime in this case) are always the same. I also tried several settings for environmental mapping (as mentioned in the thread above) to no effect at all. The slider seems to be dead.

And because I just experienced it:

Neither vulkaninfo.txt nor dxdiag.txt can be included here, since both are too big.

Here they are, in a RAR archive: DxDiagVulkan.rar

I hope for an answer, even if nothing can be done....

Fixed ships getting spawned away from ship configuration menu at resupply ships from automatically getting deployables.

"the parameters are NOT added to my old config.xml?? Why?"

Usually when things that should be saved to config profiles etc in your Documents but are not, it is either because the changed custom profile was not saved on exit, or perhaps because of a permissions issue to edit that file (such as read-only, etc). That's all that I can think of.

I do not think this is/was the case: The files date (in explorer) changed always, and with the new file the entries change too. But I think this was also the case with the old (original) file, and my changes were persistent, so they must have been stored.

The following entries were missing in the older config.xml (stored from version 5.1 and before):

Code: Select all

<upmode>
<pom>
<envmapprobes>
<envmapinsideglassfactor>
<mouseoververtex>
<cockpitcamerascale>
<persistentmousesteering>
<mousesteeringline>
<globallightscale>
I suspect, these were taken with their defaults, and some were entered at the end of the file, under comment '<!-- modified settings -->'. Obviously there are some mechanisms for older config files, which do not have new parameters. But '<envmapinsideglassfactor>' showed up only after changing to the newly generated file. And it still has no influence.

But I since I have now everything as it was (except the Cockpit Glass Reflections), the new file is a better option anyway. I still have the old original file (named config.xml.old now), so I can compare.

Thank you for the feedback. I now am unsure if we talk about the same thing.

I will make a screenshot of the issue later, but it is the sun in Argon Prime which is reflected in the cockpit glass, nothing else. If you turn the ship with its back to the sun (which stands high in the system) the reflection appears.

Maybe 'Cockpit Glass Reflections' means something else?
