Steamdeck text imput issue - Resolved over time.

Problem started the week of Sun 7/24/23 I play exclusivly on the steam deck because dad life and participate in the beta system update channel.

I can no longer use the built in Steamdeck Virtual Keyboard for any form of text entry. The keyboard does work on some level as that for some reason now no matter what I'm attempting to do the H key on the Steamdeck Virtual Keyboard pulls up the totorials and help in menus.

I can no longer enter text into any of the popup text entry menus, i.e. to rename a fleet, ship. This is no matter what; both through the use of the Steamdeck Virtual Keyboard as well as with a bluetooth keyboard.

I can enter text via ship information menu and save a custom gamestart but once again only via a bluetooth keyboard. I cannot do this to save a custom loadout on a ship or a station design.

I have already uninstalled an reinstalled the game and the issue continues.

Could it be an issue with your Steamdeck driver or settings? If it worked before but now doesn't then consider what has changed on your system, set up or game in the time between.

The update to 6.10 Hotfix 1 happened on or after 25 Jul 2023 and have you verified your game installation since that update? (I know that you reinstalled, but was it a clean reinstall?)

Over the last two weeks I have not installed anything on the system or even done anything other then play X4, daily, with the exception of Sat 22 July for that matter.

The timeline for update to 6.10 Hotfix 1 happening on or after 25 Jul, Tues, does coinside with the timeline for this issue starting. I stated the week of 7/24/23 because I will admit I do forget the exact day; I do know that it started early in the week as that I played every day of that work week prior to leaving for my shift as is my routine.

Today I again reverified the integrity of the game files, that was the first thing I did when the issue started; after it persisted I deleted the files and reinstalled.

Also today after trying some things with the steamdeck virtual keyboard I verified that it does work as intended both in gaming and desktop mode, as well as with other games.


I also noticed that in X4 the"q" and "e" keys on the steamdeck virtual keyboard rotate the ship in the ship loadout when attempting to type in a name to the save a ship design. I then went ingame and atempted to rename a ship via the popup text box and again instead of inputing text with the virtual keyboard it rotated the map with the"q" and "e" keys.

Is it possible that the update to 6.10 Hotfix somehow broke the ability of the steamdeck virtual keyboard to actually input text while ingame but still function as intended ingame when not inputing text? Because that is what appears to be happening.

Please let me know if there is anything you need, i.e. files ext, as that I will attempt to figure out how to drop a link in this thread tommorow.

Update:

This issue resolved itself on friday. I do not beleive i did anything to fix it as tat all i did was insert some new saves into the save folder.

There were a few Steam updates over that time though, should that be related.
