That was something to expect as that's how virus spreading works: groups of people not wearing face masks surprisingly increase chances to spread it.

Well that is one death that can be directly attributed to Donald J. Trump. If Trump never had that rally, Herman Cain would still be alive today, and Trump was warned that if he went ahead with the rally that this could happen, I can see a lawsuit in the near future.

Some highlights from that:

https://www.usnews.com/news/top-news/ar ... -diagnosis
Just before announcing his diagnosis on July 2, Cain posted support for not mandating masks at a July 4 event at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota that Trump was planning to attend.

"Masks will not be mandatory for the event, which will be attended by President Trump. PEOPLE ARE FED UP!" he tweeted.

What a wise advise, mr Cain, well done.

EDIT: another one bites the dust!

Turning Point USA, the conservative student organization, announced the death of its co-founder, Bill Montgomery, who was 80.

Caleb Hull, a Republican strategist, announced his death on Twitter and said Montgomery “lost his fight against COVID-19.”

There has been around 3000 deaths in the US in the last 2 days, and the daily death count seems to be going up which is what was being predicted to happen. So much for the, it's only the young being infected now and they seem to be safe.

It's all

I'm sorry, but you're probably going straight to a six-figures death toll at this rate.
And a civil war.

Well, if you keep calling "Northern England" what is actually "Scotland", yes. :|

But you're right, I was talking about the US.

In that case, you're a bit behind the times--the US passed a six-figure death toll at the beginning of June, they're over 150,000 now.

That's still an unacceptably and unnecessarily high mortality rate for one of the most advanced countries on the planet. The only explanation is due to a complete failure of leadership. We're supposed to be a leader, if not, an example, for the world. Instead, we're a laughing stock, pitiable, weak, disordered, and one more disaster away from implosion.

Bit confused, 0.5% would indeed be massive - but doesnt the US have like 300 million people? Isnt it 0.05%?

More concerning to me would be the figure I saw that 1% of the US population has been infected? Im not following the news, but if thats true and each covid case on average spreads to 3 more people....

It's rapidly approaching 1.5%. The current R-value looks like it's estimated to be about 1 in the US, though, not 3.

I suspect some people just don't get it. It is the locals I do feel sorry for as it is them that are paying for this in the sense they can't do anything and they can do sod all about it. This is why restrictions are being cancelled and new lockdowns are happening.

"Pool testing" - what a brilliant idea! If you have a low prevalence of the virus in a particular population you >>don't<< test everybody. Instead, combine the spit of, say, ten people. Test the resulting... ermm, stuff. If clear then all ten are clear. If not clear then test each individual.

Much more testing bang for your buck.

So the UK governments have decided to end the shielding and all of the care that was being given to those that were shielding. I was one of those people and I have to say I'm not actually comfortable with it ending, yesterday there were another 880 new confirmed cases and another 120 deaths related to covid-19, while not American numbers to me that is till quite a lot. So we have decided to continue shielding, especially after seeing what happened yesterdy. This raises issues as I still have to get things like my meds and shopping, fortunately I have someone that is willing to get my shopping for the near future but I will propably have to go out to get my meds. I do feel like we are just now being swept under the carpet as an inconvenience, and many others in a similar situation are saying the exact same thing. This is not over by a long shot and I do think the selfishness of others who are acting like it is, are just putting the lives of people like me at risk.
