Hi everyone,
i got currently a problem with my map in my vanilla game. Everytime i open my map, i get weired graphic fragments, which makes playing almost impossible. Funny enogh, those issues are only present in the map view. If i fly in space or do whatever, there is no problem whatsoever.
Version and language (e.g. 1.0 English, etc.): 3.0 BETA 5 HF1

Re: [3.0 beta 5 HF1] graphical issues on map
That kind of graphical corruption is invariably caused by one of three things:
1. Insufficient VRAM. Your graphics card shouldn't suffer from this, but if you use very high anti-aliasing levels then it's possible to exhaust the memory of even a high-spec graphics card.
2. Corrupt installation. Verifying the game installation using the Steam client or re-downloading it should solve this.
3. Driver or hardware issues. A bad driver or hardware that is faulty or overheating can cause this, and the problem not happening in other games does not rule this out.

Another poster (SPiDER) reported similar map display issues here when having many object types being tracked on the map. Does the issue become less serious if map display filters are applied?

Re: [3.0 beta 5 HF1] graphical issues on map
Hi, thank you for your replys.
based on your suggestions i fully deinstalled the game, deleted all related files (except my save) and installed again... - no change.
Then i started to monitor via msi afterburner for anomalies in temperature or heavy loads. So far there is nothing, indicating hardware issues. In high traffic space areas temperatures were in the green (for example GPU at 70C on average), GPU usage was in those areas at 98%, but it dropped in the mapmode to 10%. RAM and VRAM were never on the max.
I also started to play around with the filters in the mapmode. But there seems to be no change. For testing porposes did shut all of them down, just to see what might happen. The only thing that changed, was an increase in the appearence of the flashes.
Driverwise seems also all fine, a test with driver booster did not show any issues...

Re: [3.0 beta 5 HF1] graphical issues on map
Thanks. Your DxDiag Windows Error Reporting only shows a non-fatal pre-memory leak issue with X4 and all the rest of your reported Windows errors are AppCrash reports with EA's Origin management tool OriginWebHelperService.exe. (You might consider doing something about that Origin issue such as removing or updating/reinstalling it.)
The only other untoward thing I noticed in your DxDiag was that you have 2 *sound* devices and drivers running at the same time (Realtek and Nvidia) and you can disable any that you don't use in Device Manager, Sound/Audio Devices (right-click on a device in the list for an enable/disable pop-up). This issue shouldn't affect your graphics though.
Did you try changing AA as advised by CBJ? If so, maybe try changing some other options in your graphics card control panel and see if anything helps.
If all else fails, you could try doing a clean uninstall and update or reinstall of your graphics driver in case the problem lies there. You do seem to be having issues that others even with far less capable graphics cards are not having.

Re: [3.0 beta 5 HF1] graphical issues on map
HI Alan,
thank you for your reply.
I have tested the graphic settings and display modes already, from very low to max... (including AA shutdown completely) it does not seem to affect the issue.
I also removed origin and disabled one sound device... no change...
But i also started to test a litte further... i'm able to consistently reproduce the issue, every time i open the map for the second time. Until then, everything seems to be fine. Now it gets interesting: i made a little experiment: i opened the game again and let it run in space for an hour to see if any issues would occur and then open the map for the first time - no issues whatsoever. So i just shut the map and reopened the map and issue was back. Then i tried the same the other way around, keep the map open for an hour and see if there would be any issues. The map ran without any issues. Close and reopen of the map brought the issue back.
That indicates to me, that the he first map opening "triggers" "something", especially since the only affected part of the game is the map mode.

That's interesting. I'll try to see what the devs have to say.
