Insulting / having a go at another country or the people within it is not really the idea here. I'm sure it is not necessary.,
Twas taken in jest here, but i wanted to make my compatriot know that words can have unforseen efects on ppl.

Yankee is not specificly a derogatory term, but could be taken that way.

the Dictionary.com definition of the word is:
Yan·kee ( P ) Pronunciation Key (yngk)
n.
1. A native or inhabitant of New England.
2. A native or inhabitant of a northern U.S. state, especially a Union soldier during the Civil War.
3. A native or inhabitant of the United States.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Probably from Dutch Janke, nickname of Jan, John.]
Word History: The origin of Yankee has been the subject of much debate, but the most likely source is the Dutch name Janke, meaning “little Jan” or “little John,” a nickname that dates back to the 1680s. Perhaps because it was used as the name of pirates, the name Yankee came to be used as a term of contempt. It was used this way in the 1750s by General James Wolfe, the British general who secured British domination of North America by defeating the French at Quebec. The name may have been applied to New Englanders as an extension of an original use referring to Dutch settlers living along the Hudson River. Whatever the reason, Yankee is first recorded in 1765 as a name for an inhabitant of New England. The first recorded use of the term by the British to refer to Americans in general appears in the 1780s, in a letter by Lord Horatio Nelson, no less. Around the same time it began to be abbreviated to Yank. During the American Revolution, American soldiers adopted this term of derision as a term of national pride. The derisive use nonetheless remained alive and even intensified in the South during the Civil War, when it referred not to all Americans but to those loyal to the Union. Now the term carries less emotion except of course for baseball fans.

in short, if in doubt, dont say anything!

sorry.

Success with boosting combat rank then? 5 sectors is a lot of Js and Ks, shame you only got 5 Ls, or only 5 Ls survived i might say.

What ship did you do it in?

Your right about the combat points being more if you're in a smaller ship, but I just can't resist going in there & leaving it like P.E. & doing all the Xenon sectors at once gives you plenty of points, even in an Odyssus. :D

Can anyone here host some jpegs for us F.O.L.K folk?

Ferd is developing a common clan sig which needs to sit on an easily-accessible site for use by all clan members, and I have my own web avatar that I would also like hosted.

Any offers will be looked upon kindly by the cockney boys. :)

I am awaiting conformation of this at the moment. A F.O.L.K. Enlisted Soldier is currently trying to help with this matter. :)

I will ask, But you must remember that only a little web space may be available. With the ammount of peeps now joining F.O.L.K. don't be surprised to find you may have to look else where.

I can only ask on your behalf. I am more intrested in getting the F.O.L.K. logo done 1st though. :)

Cheers.

Avatars have to be tiny in any case, less than 60k IIRC.

Its just that most forums I'm a member of allow you to post your avatar to the forum website, but Egosoft.com doesn't.
