It is no brainer that Egosoft don't want to do X4 VR if XR VR was financial failure.

However there is still hope. In a few years when X4 will be be in 8.0 and DLC 5, the VR playerbase might increase to the point it might be comercially viable again.

While I treated VR as something that will come and die like 3D TV, it seem there are already enough solid games that VR will become something solid for years to come.

Imagine the DLC ends up being super good but no one buys it for whatever reason. You really think they'll make a bunch of em if no one bothers?

There's no need to imagine anything. If it comes out good - sure, hype to friends and family. But not before. Me, I'm stuck with the two DLCs already, so might as well give them a full spin. But I won't be blowing smoke to my friends in case we get same old same old.

Talking about X4. X4 cant keep up the frame rate to provide a good VR experience. X4 VR will suffer from the same things as XR VR. The VR player base isnt big enough to bother wasting time and money developing X4 VR.

I saw the ridiculous prices of VR when the Vive came out, and now your looking at $2000 JUST for the Vive2 headset. VR is dead to me.

Yeah that might be a partial reason it failed but the biggest reason is because the original XR pretty much failed. XR release as a buggy mess. It was also missing a lot of basic functionality that a space sim shouldn't be without (it didn't even have a radar). With all the bad reviews most people didn't even bother with it. A lot of the ones that tried it soon put it down. It left a really bad taste in ppls mouths and still to this day there are ppl who consider it as the worst X series game ever and wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole.

With that kind of legacy, XR VR was bound to fail too, IMHO.

Having said that, currently, XR v4.30 is a better game to me than X4 v2.50. It took something like 4 years to get there tho. I still play it and enjoy it more than X4 right now. Funny thing (or not so funny thing) is I continued to play X3TC/AP for years after XR came out.

I for one couldn't wait for X4 to release. Even bought a X52 Pro in anticipation. For what... this? X4 has ridiculous potential. But in the state that it's in now I don't get a whole lot of enjoyment out of it. The player base has dwindled quite a bit since release and its modding community has all but completely evaporated so far. I really hope all of this turns around sooner rather than later.

It is thoroughly frustrating to see this happening AGAIN!!!

I had a good play of it when it came out and I would anticipate the extra sectors with the expansion doing a lot to make me give it another go, especially if I can get some good wars going between factions in open space.

Rebirth isn't bad it's just not really much like X3. X4 is much more like X3 but lacks the variety of content that game had for obvious reasons, X3 in its later stages was like, what, three games worth of patching and updates? Reunion was kinda rough when it came out too and didn't have half the content AP had.

I think at this point it's fairly predictable how egosoft games work cos it's been how they've worked as long as I've been playing X My only hope is really that they can perhaps stick with the X4 base for long enough to add a similar amount of content to it.

So one of the Split Families is the Family Zyarth, which is the other family? Cho? Rhonkar? You never hear about the Family Rhonkar anymore, they were the biggest Split Family amongst the other Families.

I dont think 'doubles the size of the universe' is a good sign. 10x the number of sectors isnt going to make the game better if those sectors are boring, I highly doubt these extra 50 or so sectors are more detailed or interesting than the current 50 because there literally hasnt been enough time to make this many sectors deep or interesting. And an exhaggerated black hole eating a star isnt going to make a sector interesting. So I think this is a mistake - and unless I dont understand the intricacies, performance is going to get REALLY bad. Its already bad.

Less is more. This isnt elite dangerous, 100 or a billion generic systems... its all the same to me, im not interested in generic. There is not a single sector in X4 that I find interesting or beautiful like in Rebirth.

Im also still reeling from the 'no boron in dlc 2' news, which makes me sick to my stomach.

You are free to find something else to play. I mean, if it's making you sick, at this point, you have no one but yourself to blame. Unless you're just complaining for the sake of complaining.

There's a handful of you here that are awfully negative and hyper critical. You do realize that Ego has a company size of like 20, give or take, right? Not all of them are developers. For them to even still be in the business when you have big developers like BioWare, Blizzard, Activision, etc out there cranking out multi million dollar budgeted projects on a regular basis goes to show that these guys are doing a fantastic job. Just because something didn't meet YOUR expectations, doesn't mean they've delivered a bad product.

It's a very simple choice. Play it if you want to. Don't play it if you don't want to. Whining gets you no where.

Some people have stated on the forum that Egosoft plan to release a 2.6 Patch before 3.0 and Split Vendetta come out in the fourth quarter and it fixes the war.
Whether they know this for a Fact? I don't know.

Pretty close to a fact. Except I don't know about fixing the war, I think some people have very subjective definitions of what "fixing the war" would look like.

Probably the 'Invincible stations' bug being sorted out? But there are probably other bugs on top of that?

Yeah different definitions indeed...
Invincible stations bug means nothing to me since nobody wants to fight in my save.

What was wrong with the XR diplomacy missions? I don't think I ever accepted one, though i did look at them. In Mount & Blade you could do them to spark a war and get in good with the warmongering nobles.
