It looks like they are making a new hitchhikers guide to the galaxy tv series for hulu.

https://deadline.com/2019/07/the-hitchh ... 202652440/

The Orville season 3 will be on hulu not fox so maybe it will require a hulu subscription or not?

Another Life on netflix. An alien ship/device lands on earth, gathers and transmits data and a crew is sent into space to find it's origin and why it was sent. Katee Sackhoff from Battle Star Galactica is the star of the show.

Ah, hell yes! I saw the trailer a while back, and forgot it's now been released. I've just finished bingewatching Angel episodes (binge took me 5 months. I'm rubbish at bingewatching) and had been grumping about what to watch next across Netflix, Prime & Sky. Will watch an episode tonight. Thank you!

UK Amazon prime seems to have had a lot of 'old' series added, Elementary, NCIS, House, Justified and a few others.

Abandoned 'Another Life' after 25 minutes. Dreadfully shallow characters and totally lacking in subtlety. A total and utter crock, and it's a shame because the premise was a good one. Just another angst ridden soap opera, this one with a sci-fi backdrop.

Understandable. Stuck with it but not a lot to like there. Might give it another episode..

Wow... that was hard to sit through. Wooden acting and really poor writing. Not sure the director knew what to show in this one, its all over the place, story and tone wise. No world building apart from a "cutscene", inconsistent actions, most incompetent and out of place group of people to do humanities greatest mission. Feels like the Stargate SG1 episode where this entity created copies of our heroes, but since it lacked any insight into humanity, it made rather wooden and not so human version of them that they stood out like sore thumbs.

Also must have been the record of "I know best what to do so I'll mutiny despite a whole world leadership's decision because I suffer from small penis syndrome".

The worst thing is, it makes me retroactively like Star Trek Discovery and that is saying something. :o

I think it's the new 'normal' in some series (Star Trek is the worst) to have the actors have conversations which are stilted and awkward, and whose sole purpose is to relate information to the viewer in what is in essence spoken exposition. (A bit like the 'feather duster' scene at the start of stage plays.) - But it is constant, demeaning and immersion destroying for any who like subtlety. - I got away with it in Discovery because of a few exceptional acting performances almost making up for Michael Burnham's Jim Carey level overacting! - Plus they had Po in the final episode of season 2.

That show was EXTREMELY hit and miss.
Some episodes were sheer brilliance, others were cringingly awful.
I enjoyed those two too!

I hope they make more, an experiment with a format with enough promise to be definitely worth continuing.

I've been watching "Colony" on Netflix, its not bad. . . not great.
Premise is that all powerful aliens have taken over Earth and are administering it as a "colony" in a rather hands-off fashion no one ever sees them, no one really knows what they want. Governance of the populace is largely left to a human proxy regime backed by alien power/technology which is, of course, fascist as hell. Story focuses on a married couple, he's a reluctant collaborator tasked with hunting down the Resistance, she is a member of said Resistance.
The sci-fi stuff largely takes a back seat, its really a story about the various ways people survive under an authoritarian fascist occupation.
"Shoot for the Moon. If you miss, you'll end up co-orbiting the Sun alongside Earth, living out your days alone in the void within sight of the lush, welcoming home you left behind." - XKCD

"Bloody romance" - on Amazon. It's a Chinese(?) series with questionable subtitle quality/timing - but will persevere, because, why not? :D

Just watched "The Great Hack" on Netflix. Quite interesting. Covers how Cambridge Analytica along with Facebook and others, used social media data to influence elections; resulting in Trump, Brexit, and the emergence of right-wing governments around the world.

Allegedly. You cannot say "they made this happen", they were free votes. Voters opinions may have been influenced, but "Brexit" was because a substantial portion of the UK population and media had demonised Europe for decades, and pilloried immigration and immigrants as being the cause of all woes. No attempt to dispel this was ever attempted, there was no cross party leadership harmony to campaign against it, and seemingly no appetite to address it. Barely remember any of the "better in" campaign, remember plenty of the leave. They never formulated strong enough arguments to win over those likely to vote exit.

To me it's the equivalent of saying the media were responsible for Brexit - they've reported (often incorrectly) for decades against Europe. Far more responsible for the outcome.

Just watched series 1, episode 1 of 'The Expanse,' and more than happy to stick around for the next episode. - It brought to mind Ben Bova's The Asteroid Wars a little, but that might be a false memory as it's a very long time since I've read it.

Also watching Britannia. After 2 episodes, I think I'm gonna love it.

I just finished the first season of The Boys on Amazon Prime, and I can recommend it. Superheroes being corrupted by their celebrity status and marketed by a greedy corporation doing shady stuff on one side, and The Boys™ being led by Karl Urban who no longer want to accept that on the other. Has some references to DC and Marvel, and a bit of a Watchmen vibe.

Third that, it's funny and very entertaining. However, if you are offended by nudity, blood, gore and very strong language then better stay away :D
