Even though I greatly enjoy X4 and believe it is a strong comeback from X:R, performance is holding me back somewhat to dive deep down in the game. My comp is far from high end, but the question is what is needed for more stable 60 fps? What is your experience now when the game has been out for a while and patched several times?
i7 3770k @ 4.0 GHz
16 MB RAM
GTX 1070 8 GB
Win 10/64
X4 installed on SSD Drive
Res: 1440p
Ingame settings on high, vsync on, SSR off and MSAA 2.
Space: 60 fps, but dips below 30 fps in areas with asteroids and gas clouds and about 30-40 fps outside most stations
Stations: 30-40 fps

Don't think you can go much higher. Some people with way better HW have similar numbers, perhaps when there is no strain (you are in "deep" space with not many objects around) you can get higher fps.
For me what really helps is gsync - that means a smooth experience even at lower framerates.

I don't think hardware exists that will not experience a significant hit in asteroids/gas clouds or (sometimes) on stations. Specifically the gas clouds, asteroids by themselves appear to be fine.
Still a ways to go in terms of optimisation.

My Performance is excellent in 2.0 i get small lag time to time but the game runs smooth

Yes, I really hope there are room for more optimizations.

That 16 megabytes of ram must really hurt performance. I would recommend increasing that amount by like, 1000 times. Surprised your computer boots up at all with that!Artean wrote: ↑Thu, 7. I have the exact same setup as yours except the CPU, which is an i7 6700 in my case. Similar FPS numbers. I noticed that when I have hard FPS drops neither my GPU nor my CPU are maxed out. I don't know that the bottleneck is but it might be something like memory bandwidth or lock contention (the game looks like it uses all 8 CPU threads pretty equally). Nothing much we can do about it AFAIK.

Indeed I have similar numbers - and have had them ever since 1.0 - even with a weaker setup: 4460 CPU (3.2/3.4 ghz) and a 1060 GPU. Fluid 60fps while in space at 1440p, slowdowns in some asteroid fields/clouds and station interiors to the ~30s. The CPU makes a big difference especially in the map UI, that's so badly optimized it can tank your fps to the single digits when you have many satellites/autotraders around (it's gotten better with 2.0 though); everything else kind of evens out. On one hand it means the game can run fairly well on relatively weaker specs too, on the other it also means it doesn't really shine on beefier setups either.

I7 9700K
RTX 2070
16G RAM
Win 10/64
No SSD
Playing on 1440p
In game settings, ULTRA with FXAA High
60FPS in space, 45-50FPS on stations.
msaa kills FPS.
EDIT!
Tried MSAA2
50 FPS in Space
40-45 FPS on stations.

My rig is about 10 years old now, i7 975 Extreme Edition at 4.1GHz with 24Gigs of RAM, all SSDs, driving a 1080 (non Ti, high settings with SSAO off, SSR low, Tripple Buffering) at 2560x1600. I have about 600 ships, organized into a rather flat hierarchy and no funny formations, with the lot of them mining and trading for my PHQ, and the rest either running behind Destroyers and Carriers, with a handful of scouts revisiting known stations in any sector I know and of course my personal ships to wreak havoc when needed, or just hang around on. The only other station I have is a small hideout without any traffic, just a dock and an admin module with a small horde of Oddys, Nemesises (sp ?) and Eclipse Vanguards being parked close. Maybe helps to get an idea about what the game is doing in my particular setup apart from calculating geom and seeing to the GPU rendering stuff to screen.Artean wrote: ↑Thu, 7. Visiting my rather massive PHQ, if I dare to, of course turns X4 into a slideshow. An impressive one, but still, as expected, a slideshow. Anywhere else I am still quite impressed with the perfomance the game exposes on my rather dated old timer.
To give you a better idea: I've just taken the pilot seat in a Shuyaku queued up with about two dozen of my Crane miners in front of a gate, in close vicinity of about a dozen stations in a sector with (rough guestimate) 30 stations and quite a lot of traffic. Of course, as the player, I am a trouble magnet, and had some Xenon roaming around close take notice ...
I had some skipped frames when I teleported into the Nemesis Wing guarding the gate, but once I was in the pilots seat, I had a smooth space compat experience.
And I'll not mention, how one of the WIngs' ships got into a fight with the Xenons with the rest of the Wing deliberatly turning a blind eye, which made me leave the Shuyaku and jump in to lend a hand to the troubled crew of that Nemesis.
