[BUG] 1.5 Indestructible Xenon stations

Post by reanor »

I have claimed my first Xenon sector, but it has 2 indestructible stations. I tried destroyers, carriers, I tried throwing ice cream, begging, threatening - nothing helps. Please fix this, so i don't have traps in my sector that my stupid AI ship fall for and ignore everything else in the world. The indestructible stations for my AI ships are like a pile of doodoo for flies...

One thing that happens to me is that after you destroy a station they will try to reconstruct it back and then your fighters will get stuck fighting Empty Space. After that you need to remove their orders and keep doing that until they convince themselves to leave the place.

Yeah it's weird, there are few structures in Tharka's that have no life in them, not visible on the map, but the ships attack them. They are some pieces of the armature in space, with some light animations on them, like pieces of unfinished docking fork or something odd, and in Tharka's sector my ships would attack those spots, if flying by. That's in addition to none-destructible stations... I can't wait for Ego team to get back from their holidays and start giving us some patches.

For stations with zero hull but not going away, take control of one ships attacking it. You will see there are still undamaged parts of station. Shoot it yourself and slowly it will be destroyed. No more xenon station

It is the build storage for the station. They made it indestructible because if you kill the build storage the station attached to is broken and will crash your game if you try to edit it. While this isn't a problem for a Xenon station you are already destroying, if the Xenon or a faction destroy one of your station build modules, your station will become unusable.

There is a mod that allows the build storage to be destroyed but you can get crashes if your station build storage modules are destroyed, so be aware before trying it.

There is also a mod that tries to prevent the AI from attacking indestructible items but it doesn't work as advertised.

So there is no fix right now for this game breaking bug.

But who cares about the station you want to destroy? I understand this could be an issue, while you building a station and enemy destroys a build storage. Well, can't the whole thing be exploded and deleted from the game data, to just empty that location and allow a new station built? It makes sense if build storage exploded, it all goes up in flame because build storage has all those flammable components. Give us the big explosion fx and remove the whole thing to clear the location? Or every station in every sector is glued to the core of the game code that otherwise crashes it all?

Build storage stays around forever after a station is built. So you have to protect it constantly after a station is built if you use the mod that makes it destructible. So it is a constant problem.

I hope the devs fix this issue in the next patch. AI constantly get hung up attacking the indestructible build storage which greatly affects the war of all factions, including Xenon and Kha'ak. It is almost like the AI prefers to attack build storage over most other targets. It is pretty annoying.

The build storage needs to be destructible. If this is going to take a lot of work and time, the AI needs to be changed to ignore build storage until it can be fixed so it is destructible. Then the AI can be modified to attack it once again.

I think they coded it for simplicity. As you see, stations have multiple modules, and each module has it's own hull value, I suspect, that is just added to the build storage. I've noticed that ships often attack one structure and even though it is destroyed, the station hull still going down, while they keep shooting at that destroyed module, which I guess is a build storage. Even if ship attacks from a different angle, the shots just go through geometry and hit that build storage? My guess.

Based on my observations, every module appears to just have a hull value that is simply added to the build storage initial value. If it wasn't so, the ships would have to tell a difference between the destroyed and none-destroyed modules and attack each module in turn, to turn them from status 'alive' with whatever hull value, to status 'destroyed' with the hull value 0. I wonder if they simplified it all, and the modules are just 3D objects with some value that is added to the build storage value and that's how the hull value is calculated overall. So the station, pretty much, can't exist without the build storage because all the math is in there? And all the ships just attack that one target even though it looks like they shoot from different sides. Just guessing here.

So to fix all that, they'd probably have to change a lot of things around?
