Recently as I was experimenting with Auto Trade I set a bunch of ships to sell wares. Most of them works fine for the most part but the ones that are constantly buying and selling for my own stations get stuck with wares in their cargo until I drop that cargo (or put it somewhere) and then they start to do their jobs again.
In the attached save you can see that happening with all the ships named AT_EnergyCells (it's not restricted to them, but they are a good indicative), if you check their inventory they bought a full inventory and are just sitting there without doing anything. If you select one of them and drop their cargo they will immediately start buying and selling Energy Cells between my stations but at some point they will fill in their cargo and stop again. I need to do this clean up multiple times during the day for them to keep working.
I spotted this behavior a while ago and what happens is that normally they will spawn 2 commands, one to buy from one station and another one to sell to another station, but by some reason at some point they will spawn just one order to buy the full inventory without the corresponding sell order. After that they get stuck and do nothing until I get rid of that cargo.
What is probably lacking is a command to periodically check their Storage and if they find something they should try to sell it, maybe something similar to what the Distribute Wares are doing right now. And to make sure it was not a lack of demand and/or the sold price been too high while the buy price is too low I changed them to manual and set the sell price to the min and the buy price to the max in all stations, so, they should work until all stations have a full load of Energy Cells and then stop until they clear up a little bit.

Just as an update, if you drop at least 1 cargo it will start the process gain and interestingly they will try to fulfill the first sell order with the cargo they have. In the test I made it was a Silicon Wafer ship and it had the full stock, I then dropped 3 units and it instantaneously (SETA on) found a station to sell 244 wares. As that was not the full cargo it then proceed to fulfill orders composing of the remaining space in the cargo.
After I dropped the remaining items in the cargo it started doing "full" runs again.

I've noticed this with a lot of my station assigned transports. If I order them to drop their excess wares it solves the issue temporarily.

Yes, it's really annoying and time consuming especially as you need to click the ship, open the menu, go to Information, select the cargo and drop it. Very time consuming especially when you have hundreds of ships.

I had this a lot with my autotraders and noticed that it was nearly always hull parts which were left in cargo with no trade planned to sell them. After it became too annoying to drop it(I have quite a few autotraders and it happened with all of them), I removed hull parts from the list and now that only happens very rarely. In a game session of some hours I go through all my traders at least once though and nearly always find one with leftover wares in the cargo.
Since autominers are able to sell cargo until empty, I guess it shouldn't be too hard to make Traders regularily check their cargo space and sell leftover stuff by themselves.

And there is another mods that fixes station traders specifically (forgot name).
