Are employees supposed to lose skills?

Post by loubert »

Ok, so, I posted a bug about this, but it was really late (iirc), and I wasn't 100% sure it really happened - but now I am.

My PHQ. Had a dude managing it. Totally unskilled (iirc, it's been a while). Managed to get up to 1 Management 1 Morale. Checked him again later, found he only had 1 Management. Made the bug report. Fired him, replaced him with a moderately skilled pilot (2 Piloting 2 Morale 3 Management).

About a day later, I check him - and he's lost a point of Morale. He's now 2 Piloting 1 Morale 3 Management.

And I know it's not my craziness or bad memory because I have saves to prove it.

Is this supposed to happen? Do skills atrophy? If so, why isn't my manager skilling up fast enough to combat skill atrophy? If not... well, I already reported it as a bug, but wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this, or if I simply didn't know about a feature.

And I realize I did that a little out of order (posted a bug report first, then came to the general forum to see if anyone else had it happen), but... *shrug* Can't change that now.

Hello there,

I also noticed this on one of my trading vessels, as far as I can tell the captain bought some wares (Using auto-trade) which subsequently could not be sold anywhere and ended up holding their current position for some time (Perhaps 8 hours) before I noticed nothing much was happening. She too lost a star in morale. interestingly she was not one of the pilots that was asked to drop cargo at any point so it was definitely not because of an order I gave to 'flee' or 'engage' which she disliked.

My guess, and it is just a guess, is that either all skills stagnate if not exercised for a time OR just morale decreases as they get bored / angry when not able to perform their assigned function.

That's all I can say at this point, I shall keep an eye on it and let you know if this becomes clearer.

Thanks

This ;-) The same way they gain exp from success, they also lose exp when they do noting (bored) or fail.

Ok, fair enough.

My question then becomes: what is my station manager supposed to be doing that he is not doing? The station has a L Habitat, 2 dock modules and a 3-pier, 6 production modules not including the Unknown, and 12 subordinate ships. NPC ships are constantly docking to trade. So...? He can't be bored, right? And how could he be failing?

The only possibility I can think of is that I have no subordinate ships set to defense. But if that is seriously it... that deserves a facepalm, and not on my end. The station has never even seen an enemy, let alone been attacked. Neither have any of the subordinate ships. But, I could see that maybe being the issue, possibly. Le dumbe, imo, but maybe.

Not sure about your manager but I think my 0 morale mining ship lost morale by fleeing from pirates or an attack.

Makes sense that people can lose morale and even skills over time.
1. Please do more on NPC civilian/uniform variety, and bio customisations, Devs.
2. Stations need sirens/warnings when enemy is close in numbers or Station in danger of destruction (in Sandbox).
Yes, for immersion. Thankyou ahead of time. (Edit: This is actually happening!!!)

Might make "sense", but it's not fun and just more micromanaging that's required. The point is to automate everything, not having to manually check up on everything.
