Dat Framerate
Ok Egosoft, what's your secret? Come on, spill!
I watched that video you just put out, and the frames were made of butter while on stations. How do you do it? I have an i7-7700, a GTX 1080ti, and 16GB RAM, and my frames chug along at 15-20FPS on stations.

I get 50 with 6700k, 1080, 32gb. Are you using SMAA?

There's SSAA and MSAA, but no SMAA.

My bad, I meant SSAA.
Also, what resolution, 1080, 1440, 4K?

For real though turn off your AA, I have a R5 1500x and a r9 380 w/ 16gb ram and I get more than 20 on stations with few exceptions. That the only reason I can think of why your frames would be so low.ZombiePotatoSalad wrote: ↑Tue, 11. Dec 18, 02:14 Ok Egosoft, what's your secret? Come on, spill!

And no, I'm not using SSAA.
AA has been off.EmperorOfPotato wrote: ↑Tue, 11. Dec 18, 02:58For real though turn off your AA, I have a R5 1500x and a r9 380 w/ 8gb ram and I get more than 20 on stations with few exceptions. Re: Dat Framerate
You're playing at 4k. Check a few things so we can understand. What happens if you turn AA On. Does your FPS go down? Likewise, if you turn textures down, does your FPS go up?
If the answer to those is that nothing changes, then your CPU is bottlenecking. If that's the case, then you could get some improvement by overclocking, or possibly a very minor gain by going into nVidia control panel and forcing threaded optimization on.
If the above tests do change your FPS, then your GPU is bottlenecking. For that, you'll have to lower settings, ensure that your power management mode is set to maximum performance, or overclock your GPU.
4K is extremely demanding. It's not surprising in the least that your framerate is suffering.

I can't change the resolution of the game, it's locked for some reason. I just want to change the resolution of the game window, not my entire display.KextV8 wrote: ↑Tue, 11. And I have it on the lowest setting, but it's still hovering around 20FPS in stations.

Running any mods? any background programs? whats your frame rate out of system in a mostly barren empty system looking off at deep space?ZombiePotatoSalad wrote: ↑Tue, 11. No mods, mostly Steam and Firefox, and it shoots up to 50-60 in empty space.viperg wrote: ↑Tue, 11. I think that means you are running borderless windowed, yes? I am at 1440 though so your frames do sound low even in 4k. Are your drivers up to date?ZombiePotatoSalad wrote: ↑Tue, 11. Edit just to clarify, i think borderless locks resolution to native

I had it running in Borderless Windowed, so I put it on Fullscreen and changed the resolution to 1920x1080. It's now up to 30-40 in station docks at High, so that should do.
And yes, my drivers are up to date. I'm surprised X4 didn't get a driver update in Geforce.

Still sounds low for 1080 but it does need optimization, glad you were able to get sorted out though

I am getting 70 on main menu/starting station + higher in space. 3440x1440 2x MSAA (everything else max) on a 2700X, 1080TI and 32g ram, game on an M.2 drive.ZombiePotatoSalad wrote: ↑Tue, 11. Dec 18, 02:14 Ok Egosoft, what's your secret? Come on, spill!

Re: Dat Framerate
Definitely doesn't perform as I expected. I can get away with MSAA x4 and the lowest I ever get is 40fps in dense areas, with 130fps in more open areas and 90 on stations @1440p with 8700k OC'd to 4.9 and 1080Ti OC'd. That's not really anything to complain about but if AA is bumped to MSAA x8 (where it looks really good) or SSAAx4 the FPS gets chunked really really hard. SSAAx9 was unplayable. Maybe I have a misunderstanding here of what's actually going on but I don't feel like there's anything here that my system can't handle, yet it can't. Monitoring the resource usage tells me that everything isn't even being fully utilized, which is odd.

IIRC X:R did, but I don't always RC.StormMagi wrote: ↑Tue, 11. Dec 18, 03:57Why would it? Only major titles get that.ZombiePotatoSalad wrote: ↑Tue, 11. Funny seeing as a game that was Alpha state got a patch for it. That game was called Ark Survival Evolved and that was before the game even came out of alpha state. Not all titles that get driver updates need to be major titles.StormMagi wrote: ↑Tue, 11. Dec 18, 03:57Why would it? Only major titles get that.ZombiePotatoSalad wrote: ↑Tue, 11.
