Egosoft - please remove "quote" from game loading

Post by mr.WHO »

Please add an option to toggle off the "quote" that appear when you load the game.

Why?

There are bugs that need squishing and fixing first.

I like the quotes and they don't slow down the load time (game is still loading in background).

Why? The quotes are there since the first X BtF.
What is so bad about them, it is not like they are there constantly during play, just while loading and you have nothing else to do.

The quotes were there when you started the new game, not when you load each save game.

Yes but... really, why? What's the issue with them? There has to be a reason for wanting them gone - and it might be a very legitimate reason for all we know - what would it be?

Err... it doesn't. The game is already loading while you see the quote.

Do you really believe that the game is actually waiting for the quote to display before loading? Check your HDD usage, it's loading in the background.

Loading progress is usually around 40-50% here when the quotes are over.

Ah OK in my it 10% when quote dissapear - if the loading is done in the background then actualy I don't have a problem with the quote anymore.

They are there to make your waiting time less boring.

But 10%?
Old style HDD? If you can, get an SSD for games and OS. They are so much faster!

First, the quotes are pretty good although some are silly, like the fight reality quote, but generally good such as the Sun Tzu quote. And like said, no way does that slow down the loading at all. It uses almost no processes.

I suppose it can be modded out, check the nexus Mods, someone will find a way for you.

2. Stations need sirens/warnings when enemy is close in numbers or Station in danger of destruction (in Sandbox).
Yes, for immersion. Thankyou ahead of time. (Edit: This is actually happening!!!)

I like the quotes, and yeah, it should be loading in the background.

This is why not having splash screens and the like is considered good UX practice, even if your splash screen has nothing to do with the loading time, some users are always going to assume that showing stuff is slowing things down, because you are showing something that appears to get in the way of what they actually want to do.

Those are staples of sci-fi and add to the games feel in it's own way.

Games like Skyrim and Fallout 4 did affect loading because they loaded a graphic 3 d model. I Had them removed by mods, but simple writing on screen will cost almost nothing. If he expects removing the quote is going to speed up load times he`s in for a disappointment and even if it does it will be by so little he won`t notice.

I promise you, retrieving less than a megabyte of text from your hard disk will have a negligible performance impact. Most likely 99.9% of your load time is going to be reading your save file and loading actual in-game assets, and removing a random quote from the loading screen will not provide a noticeable speedup.
