The Arawn was oficially classed as a carrier, to name just one. I know, names are names and not functions, but at least it was intended for the Arawn class to be a carrier.

Sounds like we are at least all in agreeance that Destroyers and Carriers definitely need tuned up. What that entails is the main discussion.

We all agree that carriers should rearm/repair fighter wings.
We all seem to agree carriers/destroyers move to slowly to be useful

The idea of a faster travel drive for the Capital ships is also an idea.

The 4000 m/s travel drive for the carrier wouldn't be half bad, if it didn't turn off randomly every 5 seconds for no reason and not take 30-40 seconds to charge.

what are you even talking about? jump drives were locked to gates and jump beacons. maybe personal jump beacons should only work for those having a licence to it (aka depend on rank), there would be no way for such surprise attacks. if the enemy would jump into your sector that would be all about defending your assets, fighting a war, exactly what this game should be about :D
And outside of the Terran systems... every sector had a jump gate. The fact that the Xenon didn't just jump their whole fleet into Argon Prime, destroy every single thing, then Jump over to Kingdom's End, etc. etc... till they have rolled the whole universe was dumb. Jump Drive (used intelligently) would destroy and sense of system security.

because only xenon had ships right? :D if that would be simulated all argon boron etc could jd there and have an epic fight so your argument is just about nonsense. an enemy fleet by logic wouldnt do such thing, just as no argon fleet would jump into the middle of a xenon sector its the same the other way around
Why not? It was a valid stratagy in X3 (for the player). Overwhelming force vs the laughable hit and run tactics the AI would use that accomplished nothing.

if you have overwhelming force it doesnt matter if you just jump them in or walk over everything, dont even mention travel mode is as undisruptable as jumpdrive

I am with you on this.
Either have Carriers travel Speed be close to 10000 or give them the JD.
Also rearming and repairing wings is a must.

Also: JD will probably be modded in very soon.

If you look at carriers we have on the oceans to day they all go at 40+ knots, that is so fast that only dedicated speedboats can match the speed the carriers have. The same should apply in space to!! And why would you take jump drives away from x4?, technology moves forward not backward, if you don't like it make an option to select it away in the setup menu.

Everybody wins!!!

And now with x4 the sectors are so insanely BIG that using a jump drive hardly impact the game at all, you still have to travel for 10 hours to traverse a sector anyway...
I remember the Terran sectors in x3, after i had done all the missions and upgraded my rep i hardly ever went up there anymore except for trading with the station in the upper left sector, it was to time consuming and i had a wast empire to maintain.

I want jump drives down to M-sized ships, with this overly huge sectors in x4 it will not matter much anyway...
