^- This, absolutely. I think fighters should stay docked with the ship they're defending (if it has landing pads) when there aren't any hostile ships detected. It'd probably even have a nice side-benefit of lowering their cost to the simulation while docked.
Dedicated carriers should have the added benefit of being able to fully repair and resupply docked fighters. Plus having more than one pad becomes a consideration - if two ships have the same ship storage capacity, the one with more pads can launch its fighter escorts that much more quickly.

Re: Please give Carriers Jump Drives
If no one can copy/paste the answer for me, someone want to atleast summarise the sane reasons to remove jumpdrives?
I am not interested in any consumer focus group feed back rubbish that was filled up by children like they did for XRebirth.
I just want a solid, sane reason to abandon something that has been the backbone of the X games and features in every single story line for each X game for decades.

Re: Please give Carriers Jump Drives
Maybe first learn carriers to act like CARRIERS before giving them anything xD
Right now they seem to be like in xR with fighters just flying next to them... Crazy to see that this was possible in x3 but not on their brand new engine
I'd rather see carriers taken out of the game, it's just immersion breaking for me.

Re: Please give Carriers Jump Drives
The whole point of not having jump drives was that positioning, choke points and travel routes are part of the game instead of having a fleet one minute be at the other side of the galaxy just for it to appear in the complete opposite.
Carriers are slow moving command ships lumbering through sectors with their fleet. If jump drives were a thing they would just jump on the enemy HQ and wreck everything then leave. Once they have proper logistical function (which I agree is missing) they would act as mobile bases for your ships to repair instead of having to fly back your whole fleet to the nearest friendly equipment dock that could be several sectors away.
Those who want jump drives (even for just carriers) should think about how it would feel that if a Xenon fleet would jump atop your favorite station and wreck it while you are at the other end of the galaxy. You might be fast enough to react but they might as well jump out at 99% hull HP just to reappear at a different station of yours.
Jump drives were a way to cheat the AI it's a good thing they've been axed imo.

ermm.. Xenon and Khaak fleets DID jump into sectors all the time though.
That was the coolest thing about Khaak invasions and the unfocused JD sectors...
Wake me when you see a choke point I cannot afterburn past

Please don't give anything jump drives. It's great as it is now, there is no need for jump drives. The universe feels so much bigger without them.

You missed your own point in my reply. I love that stuff, I want it! I made a mod that does just that for LU.csaba wrote: ↑Thu, 6. Re: Please give Carriers Jump Drives
Although I said "they're called carriers" as a joke, my point remains the same.
To give a single ship a jumpdrive would be to break everything else. Just as I said, what about the ships it cannot carry? The hold is not infinite. It will leave its escorts behind.
The point of removing the jumpdrive is to encourage more tactical gameplay, instead of rubberbanding your Murderfleet all around the galaxy.
Also, what you can do, the AI should be able to do as well (with the exception of player-exclusive Player HQ tech). So what's stopping them from plopping a carrier into sectors you have stations, destroying them, and jumping out again?
Canonically, the Kha'ak have gateless Jumpdrives, so they should be allowed to jump wherever they want.
The Xenon should too, since they did use one to find Earth again.
Now you see what this line of dialogue opens up?
But if you still aren't satisfied, just wait a bit. Someone will add a jumpdrive as a mod.

You love having hostile ships appear randomly atop your expensive stations? Dear god not all of us are masochists, may I say the majority of us are not.Lyth wrote: ↑Thu, 6. Im opposed to anything getting jumpdrives. The lack of JD's is a sound decision, and one of the main selling points for me. I dont want them. Now we just need the game to work as advertised and this decision will bear some real, juicy gameplay fruit.

bigger? with the teleportation? just have a ship everywhere and you dont even need jump fuel just appear anywhere magically in an instance of the moment?Vandragorax wrote: ↑Thu, 6. Erm yes I am serious. I've had 40 hours in X4 so far and explored almost all of the galaxy in my own ship, and I haven't done the PHQ mission yet. I can categorically say that without Jump Drive, and without SETA, and without Teleportation, the universe feels a LOT bigger (obviously) and is a lot more awe inspiring.CaptainX4 wrote: ↑Thu, 6. c'mon, even you cant be serious about this... with teleportation THERE IS NO UNIVERSE!
Just because a handful of people rushed though the missions and got TP after like 3 hours in the game, doesn't mean it was also ruined for the rest of us.
And btw when I do eventually bother with the mission and unlock TP, I am going to use it sparingly just to get between my own ships so I can take an active part in mining, trading, exploring etc. without the need to constantly be swapping ships and flying everywhere just to get around. That's what it was designed for and that's what I will use it for. It won't make the universe feel any smaller then, because I will have already explored almost everything and I will still fly from one side to the other in my chosen personal ship at most times.

Re: Please give Carriers Jump Drives
what are you even talking about? jump drives were locked to gates and jump beacons. maybe personal jump beacons should only work for those having a licence to it (aka depend on rank), there would be no way for such surprise attacks. if the enemy would jump into your sector that would be all about defending your assets, fighting a war, exactly what this game should be aboutcsaba wrote: ↑Thu, 6. Re: Please give Carriers Jump Drives
The reason is right there in your post. If you want that, you need to have ships everywhere.... that is exactly the intention. YOU appearing anywhere is not the same as your assets appearing anywhere. If you want jumpdrive to ruin all of this then im sure there will be mods for it by the end of the week.CaptainX4 wrote: ↑Thu, 6. Re: Please give Carriers Jump Drives
I don't really get your point? Because you have teleportation you feel the universe is smaller. I feel like it's bigger because I haven't got to the point in my game yet where I have either unlocked or feel the need to use SETA or TP.
At the point when I do unlock those things, I will probably use them sparingly. Right now I haven't found the need to rush to get them as I am enjoying the vastness of space without them.
Jumpdrive has nothing to do with it, because that has been removed for additional reasons to do with moving large number of warships and/or cargo around instantly thus breaking the entire game.
