What is the ugliest ship in X4 ?

I think the whole set of the Argon, starting with the Courier and also the small ships of the Paranid are all the ugliest
Except for the Mercury, the Ides, and some mining ship
Also, i don't really understand why the mammoth looks so similar to the Teladi Tl, if they are two different races

Hands down the Odysseus. And it's a real shame, because it's old X3 design was spot on. But you have to understand why it happened, and why I know Egosoft did try to reinstate the old design first.

The cap ships are too small to support roofed docking bays, so the old internal hangar X3 ships had are out of the equation. But this new dock format also comes with a huge box, depending on what class of ships it support.

So we have the Odysseus with it's old design that is sleek by normal means, and it's a carrier. Add the giant boxy dock on top of it (as seen by its shipwreck by the gate of Faulty Logic), but it doesn't fit. Upscale the saucer so the whole thing fits. But oh sh*t, the ship itself no longer fit through the gates.
So what Egosoft did instead is they made it thicker by upscaling its vertical height. Thus we have a sort of shoe looking Odysseus now.

Generally X4 ships are very bland and look worse than Rebirth or X3 ships.

because compared to x3 i barely touched x2? falcon was my favorite ship with its rear turret and strong shields... for me its now very ugly. i understand though x2 fans it might be a welcome change, its not for me

It´s really sad they stripped down the ships so much.
X3:AP and even Rebirth had very good looking ships that fits the greatly to the races... but now??
Everything looks same, even the mushroom-thingys from the Teladis.
I hope the add more ships or rework the existing ones :/

X Rebirth had beautifully crafted ship designs. The attention to detail is astounding with intricate hull designs and patterns, tons of turrets with good placement that naturally meld with the design of the ship, the thrusters and guards were properly animated, module shields have a dome forcefield effect when shot at etc etc. Just look at the Arawn, Taranis, Olmekron, Fulmekron, Scaldis, Sucellus, balor, Sul, Fedhelm.

X4 ships on the other hand looks like amateur work where someone just slam some random modules together and slapped on some turrets which stick out and look awkward on the hull.

I'm forced to agree. I really like the Teladi S/M ships (the dirty textures are awesome). The Teladi scout (the counterpart to the Argon interceptor whos names escape me right now) is my go-to personal S ship as it is such a badass design. The miners are generally all good-looking (even the S-class ones), but the L and XLs are all pretty much equally ugly.

I really really miss the PMC and Canterran ships. They were probably my favorite designs from all versions of X I've played. I really miss my Titurel.

But argon ship design is still better than the paranoid L and XL design.

Odysseus and Zeus look like they stole some sort of giant's high heels and turned them into a battleship. That thing looks comical.

both of this totally agree.
the most baffling thing some of the ships look worse now i just say Xenon K.
and where are my XL cargo ships or XL warships there is nothing in this game that can get even close to the power of a fully operational Fulmekron. and that thing was already a ugly kitbash but a lot better than waht we have know.
here is to hope that they do a Terran DLC. Terrans always knew how to travel style like that Kyoto or the katans.

I, on the other hand, straight up hated XR's ship designs, starting from the small crafts' unimaginative shapes (the eterscels were imported X2 Centaurs, the rest of the ships looked either like an X3 Buster or like an Apache helicopter) to the larger uglies (eg Terracorp Midir WTFFF, the boring Rahanas/Sul, the "Box" Fedhelm, the overdetailed Arawn/Taranis, the assymetric Titurel, the bug-like Xenon, etc).

The only good ships that came fron that game were the Omicron Lyrae capship line (which is oddly similar to X4's Argon capships) and the PMC Triath line.

Obviously this is just my opinion. But damn XR's ships were horrible to look at after X3's sleek designs.

As for X4, apart from the rushed models (Pulsar, Quasar, Callisto, Heracles, Albatross, and the Mushroom/Saucer L ships, they do look alright. At least I can digest these easier because they are nostalgic.

Paranid big ships are the best, the Teladi set too it's fine, just the argon and the small Paranid ships are ugly, the builders instead are a real shame

I'd say any of the Teladi ships, but the Argon/Antigonne Bomber is easily my least favorite. It looks like something out of a lego set.

I don't understand, is "overdetailed" supposed to be negative thing? Do you like the zeus or the odysseus details? looks like something that you can create in 30 min with a modeling software...

To be honest Arawn and Taranis and Xenon I are the best in terms of design (talking among recent ships). Do you know why? Regardless of their "beauty", when you see for example an Arawn or an I passing by, it is intimidating, you can feel the power of that ship from the way it looks. When i see a colossus in X4, i can hardly imagine its the same ship class as Arawn or xenon I...I think the fact that a fighter can take out an XL ship in X4 is canon lol

I really hate how all the frigates are so similar with their copy/paste landing pad on it. Thats why i picked a nemesis, it looks pretty slick and doesn't rely on turrets.

The lack of true capital sized capitals is definitely annoying too.
