1.0 NVidia GeForce GTX 970M not recognised in game settings

Issue - Even though the game is using my NVidia Graphics card (I used GPU-Z to log NVidia readings during gameplay), the game settings reports that I only have an Intel Integrated GPU to select, the NVidia is not listed on the drop down menu for Display Adaptor in the game settings graphics.

I have an Optimus configuration Laptop (it has both a dedicated NVidia Graphics card aswell as an Intel integrated)

No mods in use, game start is the first vanilla game start on the list.

I have set X4.exe in NVidia Settings Panel to always use the "High Performance NVidia processor" as Graphics card :

Here's the above screenshot, DXDiag, Vulkaninfo, GPU-Z Sensor Log (started just before starting the game and just after, showing that the NVidia Card was indeed being utilised by the game) .. I am pretty certain the game is actually utilising the NVidia card, but the game settings does not seem to be able to list it in the Display Adaptors selection, which seems a bit weird.

Separate issue, but an important one I think - With the screen display at 1360 x 768, the fonts in the game menus are awful, even with reading glasses on its hard to see and bad for the eyesight. See above game settings screenshot as an example. All the in game menus / tutorials etc give me a headache after so long.

I'm having a similar issue but I don't the the game is using my 1060 Card as its only running at about 20 FPS

Same problem here. I'm on a gaming laptop with a NVIDIA 880M. The game runs at round about 20 to 30 FPS and it seams as if the intel chip is used instead of the nvidia.

Guys, I have the same issue, however once forced via the nvidia control panel the game does utilise the nvidia GPU in my laptop (see my two attachments - one shows what X4 is reporting, and the other what is using my nvidia GPU).

Can you check yours nvidia GPU usage whilst the game is running?

Yes first make sure that you have the games exe set for "High Performance NVidia Processor" in the NVidia Settings Panel (right click on your desktop, it should be in the windows context menu). See first screenshot in the first post for how that should be setup.

Then grab GPU-Z https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

Once installed, load it up :

1. Go to the Sensors Tab, make sure your NVidia card is selected in the drop down menu (bottom left)
2. Put a tick in the box for "Log to file"
3. It will ask you for a file and location to save the file
4. Once you have a log configured close the program
5. Restart GPU-Z, and wait for about 30 seconds (to give a bit of time to log the state of your card while it is not being used by the system)
6. Launch the game, play it for a minute or two
7. Quit the game
8. Quit GPU-Z
9. Find the log it made and open it with Notepad

You will notice on the "GPU Load" column, the readings will be 0% for the first 30 seconds before you started the game, then if your system is using the card when the game was started, the "GPU Load" will have increased, bit by bit as the game loads it will ramp up, and so will the "Memory Usage (Dedicated)" reading, thats your VRAM onboard the graphics card being used by the game.

If those readings stay at 0% throughout the log, your system is not using the Graphics card for the game.
See first post, mine went up into the 90's, even though the game is saying it is using the Intel Integrated GPU ..

In my case the game is using the NVidia card, its just the programming of the games settings dialogue that is bugged.

A. (At least in my case) The game is actually using the dedicated NVidia GPU despite the settings claiming otherwise (see my GPU-Z Sensor log linked in the OP)

B. On Optimus setup laptops, the Integrated Intel GPU which is a co-processor embedded onboard an I7 CPU in my case, can be used for other things like PhysX. In the NVidia Settings Panel have a look at the PhysX settings, on my machine it is set to auto, which when no games are running tends to select the Intel GPU, but even when a game is running and there is a lot of each chip (GPU and CPU) being used for the game, the auto setting will change PhysX to use the least busy chip to handle PhysX effects.

Disabling the adaptor therefore deny's an Optimus setup machine one of the two processors it can use for PhysX (Dedicated GPU or Integrated GPU (onboard CPU))

Even if X4 does not utilise this optimally, other games will and maybe even apps on windows 10 .. so disabling the adaptor device is a bad recommendation.

Its not recognizing my Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 ti. I can only select the integrated intel graphics. im not using a modified game. Version is 1.10. Game is installed in an external hard drive. Geforce Experience is not detecting the game.

Yep thats similar results as I get and good proof the game is actually using the NVidia instead of the Intel Integrated in our case, regardless what the games settings are telling us. I dont think the game would be able to run if it was really using the Intel Integrated graphics, and the game runs great for me.

I have seen mention that Egosoft intend to solve this by adding a line of code that will force the games system detection to just ignore any Intel Integrated adaptors, that way it will only have the dedicated NVidia Graphics card left to choose. There are many variations on how an Optimus setup machine is being handled though, such as many player reports are just getting instant CTD instead, so I think the fix for this is going to be complicated and take a while. Its as if Egosoft did not anticipate how many people have Optimus setup Laptops, which many gaming machines are these days.

I think you may also find that your NVidia card is actually being used, its just the settings in the game which are buggy displaying the wrong card in use, and not being able to show the second GPU

The options menu is a bit misleading as it is apparently displaying the monitor adapter name instead of what the game is currently running. I think if the game is running at all, you can assume it is the dedicated card.

Hello !

I have the same problem.

Where is a message in the "Video Options" about video memory. Some textures are not showing in the game.

I'm not sure, that the game really use my discret video adapter.

New nvidia drivers released today 417.22. Not sure if it will help but can't hurt either.

They have been busy recently, its only a few days ago I installed 417.01

I will install it anyway, but none of the changes to NVidia drivers are going to make X4's system detection code any better, only X4 Dev's can do that.

Thank you for confirming what I thought Xenon_Slayer.

I am now running X4 v1.2 and looking forward to when the fix comes along for Optimus setups, then we can refine the settings somewhat :

Currently most of the settings are ghosted and not usable, I can set either Low/Medium/High/Ultra (the game sets it to high, but with an NVidia Geforce GTX 970 M, I think I will be better off setting Medium seeing as it is slightly under par for this game.

The rest of the settings though I can not do anything with those.

So for the time being I have set it to Medium just to be on the safe side until we can get more trust in what the game is doing with our machines and hopefully no graphics chips will be getting their pins melted

Can not change intel graphics integrated adapter to Nvidia graphics adapter, even using nvidia control panel.
