1.10 CTD Game doesn't start "X4 has stopped working" - Resolved by disable Intel graphics

Hi,

just downloaded and installed X4 Foundations from Steam, but when I try to launch the game, just a small Window pops up, that says "X4 has stopped working" and after a view moments it closes again.
I've already tried many ways:

• Start as Admin
• let steam check the files
• deinstalled and installed again
• restart the PC
• updated to the lates graphics driver
• I've even copied the working files from my brothers PC

but allways the same result, the game doesn't start.

Version: 1.10(German)
No Mods or so

Which drive are you running the game from? If it's one of the Samsung SSD drives and you have Magician installed, then try turning off the Rapid option before you run the game.

Thanks for the quick response,
I had it installed on a Samsung SSD(EVO 750), but no Magician installed.
I also tried it after I moved it to an HDD, but with the same result(error) like before, so no difference on an HDD.
I added the Newest Dump files to the linked folder from my first post.

not sure but try re-installing directX and C++ redistribution files, if the game uses them i dont know.

Reinstalling DirectX isn't going to help on a game that uses Vulkan!

A couple of other suggestions:

- Make sure that you're not running the game from a drive or folder that is compressed.
- Disable AV software and drive encryption software for the folder its installed in, and for the game's folder inside Documents.
- Turn off the Steam overlay, and any similar overlays such as the RivaTuner statistics server.

I've tried now the points you suggested but nothing helped.
Could you provide me with some information on how to read the Dumb Files (is it encrypted or compressed?) then I could investigate it myself deeper?

You can't analyse the dump files yourself, because you don't have the symbols files to do so. If you upload them and link them here, however, we can take a look at them.

ok, in my first post in this thread, I added a link, to a OneDrive Folder with all the dump files, Screenshots and DxDiag.

Hi,

Did you change your graphic card just before X4 ? Amd to Nvidia for example ? It happens to me too (french forum) and it could be just a .json file into System32 from Windows, you just need to remove it (keep it if you prefer but outside System32 folder)

- the file : amd-vulkan64.json
- find it here : C:\Windows\System32

Just remove this file if you have a Nvidia card now and if you had an AMD card before, keep it if you want but outside System32 and try to launch the game. Careful with this folder, do not modify other things or you could have big problems... but i'm pretty sure you know that ^^

unfortunately, I never changed my Graphics card since I build my PC earlier this year.
Currently, I'm using a Radeon RX480 with the latest optional Driver (18.12.1).
Vulkan Driver 2.0.55
Vulkan API 1.1.82

I run X4 installed on Samsung SSD, using Samsung's rapid mode - works fine for me

I had the same problem as you, and posted about it here https://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.ph ... 1#p4760171. TL:DR For the game to launch for me, I had to make sure X4 was on the same drive as my X4 config file (e.g. C:\Users\<userprofile>\Documents\Egosoft\X4\67821922). Works great now.

thx for your suggestion, moved it to my C:\\ Drive (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\...) so it is on the same drive as the ConfigFile (C:\Users\<userprofile>\Documents\Egosoft\X4\...) but unfortunalety it doesn't helped either... looks like it is diferrent Problem

@support: i know there are many open threads with problems currently but could you get me nen update if someone allready looked into my dumb Files, if i can help you to investigate the problem, PM me

Some things to try:

Verify the Steam gamefiles cache - if from Steam obviously.
Update your Realtek sound driver to HD Audio Codec R2.82 or later.
Disable any sound devices that you do not use in Device Manager, Sound/Audio Devices (right-click on a device for an enable/disable pop-up).
If you have any joystick or controller or other USB devices, try again with them unplugged to eliminate them and maybe temporarily deselect any custom profiles for them that you may use to return back to default for testing purposes.

We've taken a look at the crashdump and it seems that the game is trying to use your on-board Intel graphics rather than your main graphics card. If you go into Device Manager, right click on the Intel device and select Disable, that should solve the problem for you.

Thank you, this fixed it, but I had to deactivate it in the BIOS just deactivate it in the Device Manager and restart the PC didn't work for me...
