Good Evening Everyone!
I just bought X4: Foundations and started playing. It has several bugs including incorrect information in tutorials (e.g., BACKSPACE to exit wndow when ESCAPE is the correct button, getting clipped through the landing pad when trying to dock and getting stuck inside the station with invisible walls trapping you in there forcing you to reload an earlier save, etc), but my hopes remain high for this game. I LOVED X3: Terran conflict and I'm hoping X4 will be similar.
Right now I'm trying to find a storyline or plot missions I can begin to help develop my character and assets in the game. I'm still docked at the first starting station after beginning the game with the rookie pilot (easiest start) option. Do any of you have any recommendations for any good missions or storyline plots to jump into from the very early stages of the game? Also do any of your recommend working toward any particular ships? I notice this starter ship was an extremely small inventory. I filled my inventory after killing just 3 random Xha'ak vessels nearby the starting station and looting the wreckages. That size inventory could be a problem if I wanted to go bounty hunting for loot.
I'm open to any suggestions for getting started. Please share your insights! Thank you!

Re: Missions and Plots
Also does anyone know where I can sell advanced targetting modules? I looted two in space but the trader in the station doesn't appear to buy them--I don't see the advanced targetting modules in the list of trade goods to buy/sell.

I purchase docking software and installed it on my ship (it took 35 seconds to upgrade my ship). How do I use the docking software though? I don't see any options to allow autopilot to dock for me...

It engages automatically when you get close (I think the mk2 just works at longer range). Just request docking, and then try to ram the pad you are cleared on. I don't know if there's a max speed, but you can definitely go in at speeds that seem way too fast.SirDeity12 wrote: ↑Sun, 2. As for missions, station scanning missions are super easy and low risk, but seem to provide good money early game. Fix leak missions aren't much harder, and you can use them to find leaks to scan (scanning the leak will fail the mission, but well worth it if you scan a blueprint). Recover medical supplies is also easy, just be sure to shoot the lock and not the box (just be on the right side when firing). I did a bunch of escape station missions (mostly found by scanning signals), which are fine, but it sometimes takes the passenger a long time to reach the ship which can be annoying. The trade missions seem to pay way better than actually trading, but watch out that you are delivering to the right faction's station, and that the faction is actually buying the good you are supposed to trade them.

Re: Missions and Plots
I'm finding a lot of loot from killing criminals in space near stations, but it seems none of the stations I've visited have traders that can buy the goods I have for sale. How can I sell my loot? Do I have to spend 100s of hours searching the galaxy to find traders willing to buy my loot?

Re: Missions and Plots
I captured a Kestral Vanguard, and I went to send it to a friendly station so I can sell it. How do I do that without abandoning the ship I'm in now? In X3 Terran Conflict I could issue orders to captured ships immediately after claiming them. Can I not do the same in X4 Foundations?
Do I really have to abandon one of my two ships? I don't have any crew members. Do I need to go hire a crew member and bring him back to the ship I claimed?

Re: Missions and Plots
I figured out you need to return to a station (virtually any station) and hire a captain. Then it seems you have to leave your ship and go over to the ship you claimed. I don't know if it's possible to send your hired crew members over there. I'm guessing you probably need a teleportation device in order to teleport your crew to another ship, but maybe it isn't possible then either. It's really annoying though having to leave your ship to get in a claimed ship and fly it back to a shipyard to dock it if you want to sell it. You should be able to issue the command from your original ship to tell your claimed ship to fly to a station of your choosing and dock there.
I told my hired captain to join my fleet because I don't know how else to have the ship dock at a station of my choosing. So basically I spend hours flying to and docking at a shipyard and then waiting for a long time for the ship being flown by my hired captain to eventually catch up to me and dock here so I can actually sell the ship. If I undock from the station then the AI ship flown by my hired captain will follow me instead of docking at the shipyard since I don't see any commands to tell her to dock there without me.
If anyone knows of a better way of doing this please let me know! Thanks!

Re: Missions and Plots
Okay, I figured it out. You do need a crew member to fly your claimed ship, but you don't need to form a fleet with it and lead it to a station to dock. You only need to go to your map screen, then click PROPERTY OWNED, then select the claimed ship by left-clicking it, then you need to left click the station on your map (zoom in and out to find the station you want), then right-click the station to issue the selected ship a command. Dock at station is one of the options and it'll give the command to any ship you have in your property list, so long as there's an active captain in the ship.
Also discovered autopilot which seems a little buggy because it doesn't always use TRAVEL MODE to fly across really far distances between gates as it should, but by selecting an item on your map and choosing show guidance, then activating autopilot, it'll eventually automatically fly to that item. This is a handy tip in case you choose to go AFK for dinner or something while traveling a long ways, or if you're doing trade runs to make money while being mostly afk (e.g., such as working on something else on a separate monitor).

Re: Missions and Plots
If the items are in your inventory (shift+i to open your inventory), you need to find a trader on a dock. Look inside docks on NPC stations for a building with a large shopping cart sign above it. Once you find the building, land, disembark from your ship, and walk into the building. Inside, talk to the trader at the counter and ask to see their wares. From there you can buy and sell inventory items.SirDeity12 wrote: ↑Sun, 2. If the items are in your ship's cargo hold, you have to find stations that use those items as resources. You can use the search function in the map (upper right corner of the screen while the map is open) to find stations that will buy the items from all of the stations you've discovered so far.. Simply enter the name of the item into the search field.
Admitting you have a problem is the first step in figuring out how to make it worse.
