X Rebirth joystick/throttle not working (x-55 rhino)

Hi all -

So I got X-rebirth for Christmas. I've played the other X games, although it's been ages since I messed with X3. My current joystick is the x-55 rhino. I am totally fine using the x-55 software to configure my buttons and whatnot, but atm i don't even have basic functionality. When I try to fly around the joystick doesn't work, and neither does the throttle. Remapping buttons is pretty easy, but does anyone have any suggestions on getting the joystick/throttle to work at all so I can even get to that point? Thanks!
