New comp - Max hardware for Rebirth.

Post by Smart_Bomb »

Hello everyone!

I am purchasing a new gaming comp piece by piece and taking advantage of black friday and cyber monday deals.

I wanted to ask those with more tech knowhow than myself what components would allow me to play Rebirth or any new game from Egosoft on max setting while not spending a penny more on unnecessary upgrades like 32gb of ram for example.

I did read the minimum and recommended specs but I wanted to go to the max without being overkill. For example I don't know if Rebirth utilizes DDR4 ram or quad/six cores with hyperthreading or an 8gb graphics card.

This is what Im thinking of right now: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/xxMCTW
I don't know if it's too much or too little in any one area >.>

Thank you so much! :)

From my experience you may be better off with the AOC i2367Fh monitor, save a few bucks and get a better image @ 1920 X 1080....

My thoughts about this :

- I see no reason not to go for the latest gen of CPUs
- 8 Gb of video ram is a huge overkill for a single monitor setup
- 750w PSU seems excessive too
Right on commander !

I also think the gcard is very overkill, only some games really need more then 3.5 gig of vram, (unless you running 2 or more monitors) (or the very latest games)

also I would get a spinning harddrive, (there are pretty cheap now) so you don't put everything on that SSD, and you should also reserve some space for it, (so not to fill it (at least 10% maybe a bit more) so that SSD will quickly run out of space, so getting a second drive is a must.

a 600 wat PSU would be my guess, but then again, having that bit extra doesn't hurt.

just my two cents

Thank you everyone for your feedback!

Birdtable- I have added that AOC monitor to my list, much appreciated!

Geek- I know most games won't use it all but their is a big sale coming up on the 26th for it and it will be the same price as its 4gb counterpart, so why not was my reason. I will be using dual monitors from my current computer setup and my 2tb hard drive for that matter. The power supply I had no idea about, it was recommended to me on tomshardware forums. For the CPU budgeting reasons I'm trying to keep the whole thing under 1200$ and if I go I7 then I also have to buy a more expensive motherboard and RAM setup to handle it too.

matthewfarmery- thank you :) I had alot of that covered above.

X rebirth needs beefy CPU, lots of ram and a beefy GPU with lots of Vram. To put it simple if you want to have a smooth experience on everything/ultra. Even on my 8350 4ghz base pile driver, 16 gigs of 1600 mhz ram and a gtx 770 2gigs x rebirth can being my fps to 30 or under when in heavy dust and areas with lots of asteroids.

Everything said seems correct, except this :)

Far not forcedly true (and z97 chipsets are or were strong)

It's all a question of flexibility, but the higher one don't forcedly means that its better manufactured :/

I'll only react on the note in the end of the list: those kind of supplying differences can easily lead to unwanted performance behaviour and can alter the life-cycle of components (maybe the reason for higher power supply)
I council to adapt your RAM with other ones. (I didn't look at speed or details more)

[edit] Forgot to say that you better think with the future, especially with Rebirth (who knows why :D)

Thank you so much everyone for your wisdom an input.

I have adjusted my specs for future proofing and will buy the peripherals at a later time as I can afford them. What cha think?

your still missing a normal HD drive, 2 gig would be good, oh yes, what about a blueray drive? (probably better then a DVD drive now) or you intend to fit both of those later?

a 2 gig HD might break the bank, what are they like 4$ on newegg? :D

I am planning on taking my 2TB from my current gaming comp and dvd read/writer over, sorry for not mentioning that.

Right now I'm having a hard time choosing a graphics card, sure I can go MSI 390 8gb but I don't think I'll ever do 4k gaming. Would the memory on it help for for rebirth or is it overkill and a 4-6gb graphics card would work just as good?

I think 4gig Vram gcards are fine, I don't think there is any need for a 8gig vram card just yet.
