Why do I get very low FPS shortly after loading ?

Post by exogenesis »

Seems when loading, a very short while after it all clags up & I get atrocious frame rate.

But if I go to crew quarters & exit, it all seems smooth again.

Suspect it's due to large ship/station count / mature save-game file (+ 107 log book pages)

But it implies a saturation of live-caching of load-game-state, that is cured by going to a different 'zone' (crew quarters).

Just an observation...

I think we are on a status quo here. A 50%/50% situation where no party moves...

As a lot of improvements has been done already in regard of performance, I assume that the game won't run flawlessly above let's say 2M on quite recent GPU...
But, since the problem have the alt-tab workaround, that leads to conclusion that some memory (read performance) is cleaned on the fly, which could be achieve somewhere in the code cyclically...

Guess it's not a high priority,
but it's a problem/annoyance that the game is unplayable until you've waited about 10-20 secs,
then moved to crew quarters & back.

(at least for me anyway - I7, 16GB, GTX570)

One of the things you get used to having to do I guess...
would be more reassuring if the whatever-caching was automatically 'clean up ?'
on the fly though.

If only I could have such a configuration :)

To remind, the fact is that the game can sometimes runs on very good conditions in the middle of a rushed zone, even with low GPU like I have (GTX 9800)...
I'm quite sure that the issue(s) has not been discerned precisely, but this topic inspire me a procedure, and the think that two (or two times the same) issues could be twisted (cuz "the save is rare" see below)... Or Ego effectively reach the maximum "output" for single core operation (this way shall be difficult to prove).

- I'll try to see if I can find a saved game that has inherit the holy LAG-gap (We shall always have a result below ~10FPS) (thx for the link). This save is very rare as 'this' shall annihilate it. (or your method it seems)
- redo 'this' procedure to regain normal game-play.
- Achieve a second different save.
* Provide both saves as the (two) issues should reside in the differences between the two saves.

Note: The case is precise as the first load (with problem) shall wipe the issue. I suspect it does, but not two times... ;)
I didn't think, atm, what that could mean if they are strictly the same...

I noticed that when staying in the same place for a long time will make FPS getting lower and lower until unplayble. Happened yersterday to me when managing a lot of CAP ships to monitor them on the map. For about 30 min I didn't change zone and didn't move the Skunk either.
I then use a highway for more than 10 seconds and all returns to normal again. Don't know why though.

this one is a bit different of the case I talked. But may be the same as exogenesis. It can be flushed as said too...
In my case the holy LAG could have come instantly after a message call for example. I'm not sure you can suffer a <10FPS with the long time cumulative LAG...

Personally, I shall 'proceed' a flush every 5-10 min. That comes suddenly on absolute random positions (inside, outside, in void)
