sadly I was not able to set steam to NOT update my game from 3.2 and it auto updated. 1. I would like to know how to prevent steam from updating. 2. how can I go back to 3.2
3. any ideas as to why the game will not launch under 3.5. I get the 1st screen but no sound and it justs hangs there and never goes to the menu screen.
I swear this game is the most poorly designed I have ever seen.

I don't think you will be able to go back to 3.20 and it is Steam that prevents us from stopping auto-updating, not Egosoft. If you google GTA San Andreas you'll find a high profile example of this.

With regards your problem with 3.50, please see the sticky in this forum where it explains what is needed for people to to help you fix your problem. That would be better than rolling back to 3.20. They'd like a dxdiag, for example (see sticky for guide to making one if needed).
Quick checks:
1. If you alt-tab or control+alt+delete to desktop, are there any anti-virus/firewall popups? They could be inadvertently blocking Rebirth checking with Steam Workshop.
2. If no popups, could try checking that Rebirth hasn't become added to an anti-virus/firewall block list.

If your gamefiles are unmodded/unedited then you should do a verify of the Steam gamefile cache to check the update was complete and uncorrupted.
If your game is modded then it is entirely possible that one or more of your prior mods or edits are not compatible with the 3.50 version (so far).

Unless the mod authors are regular posters, you probably won't have much luck but you could ask if they could do an update in their threads and see what happens.
In the mean time, you could move the contents of the Extensions folder (not TO addonif you have that) and your saves to a backup location and start a new game.
