Do i need a mod to make a joystick work smoother

I have tried everything I can think of to make my joystick respond smoothly ingame. sadly its very choopy. it does not engage for a while (like deadzone) and when it does it goes too fast. iv tried various settings but nothing works. When I first installed the game a year ago the stick was fine, but as the game sucked I didn't play it until now. and with all the new updates did something change with joystick compatibility that requires a mod to smooth it out.

try setting smothnes and deathzones etc. with a external program mostly from the same company than your stick.

I use a 10 year old joystick xD and Mad Catz for my cybork evo from cytek and it runs smothly

cool ill try the thrustmaster software. how should I set the ingame settings so they don't screw with my external software?

sadly everything I have tried has not done anything. the in game response to any changes is nil..that is no noticeable change. even in game changes do not make any changes. external programs do nothing either..the mouse still steers fine, but that's not preferred. any ideas?
