werewolves? wrote:Nah the Skunk's weapons are crap, a lot of the fighters have multiple hard points able to fire simultaneously. The Skunk is also supposed to be an advanced prototype ship, not over the counter like the other fighters.

Also I don't think their weapons overheat.
Most fighters do not:-
  1. Carry drones
  2. Have shields of strength close to that of an upgraded Skunk
  3. Support more than 1 gun type or missile type (or at least do not seem to)
  4. Have engineers on board for hull repairs
  5. Can do boarding of other ships
I do not disagree that that the Skunk could be better but it has more utility/capability than the average X-rebirth fighter. The weapons could perhaps do with improvement but as it stands they are generally more powerful variants (double damage on the most part IIRC) of the mainstream weapons. As for overheating of weapons and the Skunk being an advanced prototype - prototypes do not have to be free of all flaws (even advanced ones), and the Skunk *was* an advanced prototype years before the notional start of X-Rebirth - at the start of X-Rebirth it *is* a salvaged wreck.

Just to clarify, yes it WAS a prototype, but that was ages ago in X lore, hence the prank renaming to Skunk. ;-)

It *was* an advanced prototype ship, *when it was new*. That was a long, long time ago at the time XR takes place, and the other ships in the universe got developed over that time; the poor old Skunk got left behind.

Yeah, it was an advanced prototype vessel.

But I have to complain about one thing... (doesnt have anything to do with gameplay, which is AMAZING, so dont get this wrong please)
Skunk is supposed to be a ship taken from the rubbish, but WHY does it look like a completly new vessel from the showroom?
No, actually, the whole game was supposed to be a rusty and battered graveyard with stations built out of scrap, since its a post-apocalyptic space game, that takes place after an explosion of a supernova...
However, everything looks new and polished. This always bothered me

1. The other ships got developed in what amounts to the dark ages with whatever resources that separated systems had. Didn't the skunk get developed by Bala Gi.?

2. If the Skunk is actually supposed to be more crap than most of the ships in the galaxy and you are stuck in it, that's not a very fun or satisfying premise for a game.

No, it didn't.
Description of Albion Skunk wrote:This multi-purpose craft was conceived by Argon Shipwrights as a long range reconnaissance ship for use within the Terran Solar System. It is unknown how many of these ships exist but some have been sold to major corporations as personal command ships for high-ranking executives.

Maybe mixed sources of info because of changes in development and Albion Prelude:
This prototype built by Jonferco in 2932 was a technical masterpiece based on blueprints by engineer Bala Gi. Its great flexibility in engine performance as well as weapon, shield and hull technology would have made it the first choice for any military organization. The model however never got into mass production, due to excessive costs involved in building the main structure.
Conscious this discussion might be getting OT?

It was developed in a time when resources were plentiful and high energy systems abounded.

Technology in the Rebirth universe is far LESS advanced then what was in X3.
The only way it got better was in energy efficiency.

Interesting discussion, but if you want to continue it, please do it in another thread. Let's get back on topic, shall we?

No, not yet. As before TrackIR and similar device support remains on our wishlist though.

So the first expansion eh? Since the engine is ready and the game is mostly fixed lets hope narative gets a bit more attention with better script and voice acting. Also It would be nice to see remodeled NPCs with more varied faces, actual hair and better animations. Also I feel like optimisation might need to be center stage since I am not sure if the framerate I get is actually imposed by the limits of my GTX285.

PS: What a coinsidence. War thunder's latest update is also out at the same time
this is not a xenon-> :xenon: its a Borg

And I miss the Terrans/ATF. Their ships were even better. I really miss the clean look of the Katana, Yokohama, and all their stations. Or the high-tech look of the ATF ships.

Hopefully that's a couple more DLC packs right there :)

Terrans are the way. Katana, Yokohama, those are THE REAL beauties.

I think that Solar System might be too much for X-Rebirth, as it would have to have more sectors that whole currect X-Rebirth universe. Aldrin is also connected to Sol via jump beacon which is independent of gate network.
Also, considering what they did to Canteran ships (their Destroyer and Freighter) they don't look cool anymore. To be honest the Arawn and Omicron Lyrae Destroyers looks more ATF/USC than Canteran design.

IMO it would be best if they would a hidden (not highway connected) sector in DeVries where USC/ATF Task Force would appear (remeber they have jumpless drives!). You would have two choosable sets of missions:
- ATF would want to forcefully reclaim DeVries (you align either with Terrans or with Argons)
- ATF will try to peafully join Canteran/OL/Albion alliance to deal with Xenon (unlock some new xenon sectors for diffrent missions)

This would require much less job. Script some more missions, maybe 2-3 new sectors + small set of Terran ships (Carrier-flagship, Destroyer, Frigate, Big Freighter, 2-3 types of fighters) + maybe a separate set of Terran weapons.

Not a good idea about that hidden zone with scripted ATF force.
I would rather take the current system than something like that, sorry :)

A new terran sector, that would make it...
With some Osakas, Kyotos and Tokyos. Maybe Yokohamas.
And OFC, Cutlasses and Scimitars.
And terran stations with same funcionality as normal X Rebirth stations, but with the models of X3 terran stations.
