Cockpit position and cargo bay bulkhead door position do not match

Post by kAzzz »

Hi there,

Don't know if this is a known issue (or an issue at all), but doesn't the cockpit have the access bulkhead door on the wrong side of the cargo bay bulkhead door?

Clearly the pilot sits on the port side of the ship when in the pilot seat:

When leaving the cockpit into the cargo bay the bulkhead door is on the port side:

The cargo bay doors are aligned to the ship center:

Nevertheless the player enters/exits the cargo bay in the starboard side:

Maybe I am the one that needs my eyes checked up, but shouldn't the cargo bay bulkhead door be on the opposite side?
Either that or the pilot should enter the cockpit from the starboard side (From Yisha's side)?

Cheers.

Nevermind, the cockpit is not centered... it's on the starboard side.
I should get my eyes checked after all :D

Hi kAzzz

I had notice that too but the i came to the conclusion that if you look at the skunk from outside then inside the cockpit is not that central think like a letter Y with the left fock missing and as you leave the cockpit you go down a short corridor to the right leading to the wider part of the ship slightly central that being the crew quarters the cargo/dock bays are above you.

Well thats how i see it, yes it still don't look right then a lot of things don't look right like on all cap ships why is the capstans standing in the docking bay when theres a bridge.

Yeah, it does make some sense looking from the outside - In my first post I was not taking into account that the cockpit is eccentric to the ship axis, therefore my conclusions were wrong (hence I said I should get my eyes checked on the second post ;) )

Anyways there are some rough edges to fix for of course, one of them is the NPC mechanics, as you mentioned, it does not make much sense to have the guys standing around in the docking area of a cap ship.

Though it would be much cooler to actually navigate inside a cap ship after docking, similar to stations, it would have to be meaningful, otherwise it would be for sure something to be fixed with a mod "Never Enter Ships Again" as the boring station navigation was "fixed" by "Never Enter Stations Again" and later integrated in the game mechanic itself.

But how cool would it be to go into the crew quarters, check the engineering room, have a chat with the captain in the bridge and go to the tactical speaking with the defense officer? I mean, it would be a carbon copy of Mass Effect mechanics on ship, but if done correctly it would be awesome.

I can even see one docking in a cap ship and making it it's base of operations, coordinating tasks from within the ship, or just queue some orders, letting the AI do it's job and just stand in some observation deck to relax.

Of course there are bigger issues in the game to fix than this one, I would be grateful if only I could have a working economy and station building without having to go into XML mode, as my last attempt to bring DeVries up to speed led me to rage quit on my saves due to a XML mess on the station turrets...

Cheers!

I agree with you and i did see a post on this subject of walking around cap ship and ship bridges but i don't think anything will come of it.

Good luck mate.
