The Hyperion was Jumped out once the Paranid was brought aboard the Sword and the Paranid was safely in the Brig. I then Jumped to The Empire edge out post where I contacted the Commander. "Captain Dannar it has been wozura since last you were here why do you wish to speak with me.
"Abmankigttab it is good to see you again, you have heard of the operations to destroy the base of the false Duke ?".
"Indeed I have also heard that it was you who orchestrated the destruction of that vile creatures demesne, surely the Emporer himself will acknowledge your efforts on his behalf".
"Perhaps but I come here with unpleasant news my friend during the operations I learnt that one of the Emporers most trusted advisors was working in league with both the Duke and the Yaki when I discovered this I had no choice but to act to prevent further betrayals. I bring the evidence with me, once you have seen it you will see why I have done what was necessary".
I did not tell Abmankigttab that Lockemslat was a prisoner aboard my ship if I had it would have created to many problems and delays. As it was I was escorted directly to his office where I gave him the data crystals that showed the conversations between Jako a supposed Yaki minion and Lockemslat.
"This is Sad news you bring me Dannar Lockemslat was favoured by the Emporer himself that he should have betrayed that holy trust is beyond my ability to comprehend".
"That is why I have brought this proof to you first my friend, I have withheld it from others so that you may decide how best to deal with the matter".
"You have shown true friendship in doing so had this treachery been revealed some stain might have attached itself to our Lord Emporer. I will see the matter is made known to those who must judge what must be done what of the treacherous one".

I re joined the Sword and we Jumped for home via the normal route there was a jump Beacon in system now but until I was satisfied that it was as secure as the Gate entrance was we would not be activating it..
I set course for the headquarters pleased to note the Celenteree was already in system near the headquarters with a steady stream of ships going to and from it. Once we were docked I informed the crew we would be resuming operations the following day so advised them to remain on station or on board.
"Well that just leaves us to arrange to meet your father Xarrisse would you and Che t'nn care to join Bekka and myself in our quarters we can make our plans over dinner many of your crew are already taking advantage of the station facilities whilst we finalise repairs to the Celeneteree" I added.
"If you are sure we would not be imposing we would be delighted" Xarrisse admitted.
I arranged for a transport to meet us at the main hatch then took them to our apartments, as soon as we entered the main lounge Xarrisse was immediately drawn to the large panoramic windows from where the Celenteree was clearly visible.
"I have never had the opportunity to see her entire before".
"I still have yet to hear how you gained her Xarrisse".
"Perhaps over dinner for the moment I would bathe if you do not mind I have been overlong in this garb".
"Of course Bekka intervened taking Xarrissse's arm the bathrooms are this way you will find clothing in the cupboards intended for guests please feel free to use whatever you will. Che t'nn the facilities are available to yourself as well".
Bekka escorted them both to the inner rooms of the apartment proper and re joined me looking out over the sector.
"A credit for them she" asked leaning against me.
"To be honest my minds sort of gone blank for the moment. On the one hand we've caused the Duke a major setback and caused a lot of pain to those who were working with him, then on the other we find ourselves becoming entangled in the politics of the Yaki".
"Not exactly what you were expecting I suppose kert but at least the Duke is out of the way so he's not an immediate threat".
"No but I hate reacting to what's occurring I feel as though I'm always going to be one step behind at some point I'd like to get ahead of the game and dictate the battle for a change".
"This put's you ahead of the game Kert look around at what you've accomplished here in such a short space of time from here you can plan the battles you want to fight rather than just leaping from crisis to crisis, you can't do it alone make the other races step up to the mark".
I Kissed her recognising her worry for me in her words but she was right I was trying to do everything and that was an impossible task.
"Alright I will bear that pearl of wisdom in mind as soon as I've sorted this Yaki mess out, there are still things I don't understand about the whole thing such as why were the Yaki even dealing with the Duke they hate pirates of any description with a passion they always have".
"Ask Xarrisse she owes you one and I think she trusts you at least I see no reason for her not to, wait till she tells you and then you might have a better idea on how to go about dealing with her brother and father".
She was right of course I went to the kitchen and made up a large pot of coffee and joined her in the lounge are where we both just relaxed enjoying the view. with Bekka pointing out the various ships that were criss crossing the sector and asking me where they were most likely heading and why.
Xarrisse joined us a short while later pouring herself a coffee and listening as Bekka tried to catch me out.
"What is it you are doing" she asked puzzled after listening to me and Bekka for a few moments.
"Kert is telling me where each of those ships are going and why I'm trying to find one he does not know it's a game nothing more". Bekka admitted
"That one there then Xarrisse said pointing to a Mistral super freighter coming from the south east".
"That's easy as its traveling at near its top speed which means its empty it will be calling in at one of the Solar power plants fro energy cells". I replied if it were full it would be heading for the mammoth over there to transfer Meat steaks to that mammoth parked over there by the Aran.
"Impressive do you produce everything you require here" Xarrisse asked
"We do the whole sector is designed to be totally self sufficient trouble is at the moment we are running low on storage space the system was designed for a lot more people than we actually have in sector which means I'll probably have to buy another TL class ship to store the Surplus".
"Why not just sell it , a TL class ship full of bio stuffs could make a great many credits".
"It could I admitted but it would raise too many questions if anyone was to look into the output of my known stations they would realise I had another production base somewhere and they would start looking for it, the whole idea of this place is its security". Few people know it exists and even fewer would be able to locate it. I would prefer not to give them reason to make the attempt".
"You take your security seriously Kert".

We made small talk then till Che t'nn joined us he had been delayed by having chosen to wait for his clothing to be cleaned and returned to him which whilst it was an automated process still took a few mizura to accomplish.
"Now I said my patience is exhausted i absoloutly must know how a Lady of the Yaki acquired a Brigantine".
"I will tell the tale Che t'nn offered for my Lady is to modest in the telling of the deed, We were en route for home after having purchased a station for our Lord and were taking a circuitous route to avoid the cursed Paranid core sectors. All was going well till we entered Ocracokes and were negotiating the Asteroid field when this fool in the Brigantine followed us through the gate too closely Xarrisse had suspected his interest in our cargo he had been pacing us across three sectors thus she had chosen to await his arrival and gave him a welcome he was not expecting as instead of taking the easier path through the asteroids Xerisse had elected to run the more difficult path that requires great skill to achieve with such a craft as the Ryu. Needless to say when he received a hammering from the mines we had laid in his path and the missiles she fired into his bow he became enmeshed within the asteroid field unable to manouver at all for fear of destroying his own ship. at that point we were able to capture him with relative ease he was still reeling from shock when we confronted him on his own bridge".
"You say we so you also boarded the ship Xarrisse" Bekka asked
"Of course long have I and Che t'nn and I fought alongside each other and I was rather angered by the Pirate who had the temerity to stalk my ship".
"Needless to say it is a mistake he will never be able to repeat my Lady is fearsome in battle. In truth it is this her passion in combat that first drew me to her".
"Husband hush or do you seek to make me blush" she asked.
"My husband has omitted much of his own part in this tale Xarrisse scolded him but he was never one to brag overmuch".
"You took a Brigantine with a Station transport ship that is incredible Xarrisse how many men did you use in the boarding operation".
"Sixteen of us were able to penetrate the hull before the shields were raised Che t'nn admitted four were lost in the attempt. Once aboard we suffered no other mishaps".
It was an incredible achievement I would not have considered a TL as a suitable vessel to take on a Brigantine let alone use it as a boarding platform and to do it with no on going shield suppression was heroism bordering on lunacy.
An impressive achievement Xarrisse, Che t'nn I am not sure I would have made the attempt.
"I would be loathe to asked to repeat it" admitted Che t'nn shaking his head at the memory of it.
Bekka moved to the kitchen and returned with a tray of cool ales for us I got the impression she was trying to make them feel comfortable which is what prompted me to ask why they had been in Lasting Vengeance given the Yaki's known enmity with all Pirates. Xarrisse seemed reluctant to speak till Che t'nn nudged her side.
"My husband is correct you have treated us with all honour and at risk to your selves I ask that what I say goes no further. Desperation Kert, Our crops have been spoilt by a blight an enemy managed to contaminate our seed stores we are faced with starvation I was in lasting vengeance to purchase new seeds for our farms. In this I have also failed my father".
I said nothing for a moment I was instead considering what they Yaki would do if they were unable to replace those lost crops, there was only one thing they could do to go out to take them where the could which would only increase the commonwealth wide shortages caused by the terran raids on our infrastructure amongst the other races that till now had not adversely affected the Paranid.
Bekka looked at me "You don't think... ".
"It does seem to be an all to familiar pattern", I agreed
"What pattern asked Xarrisse you speak as if you have knowledge of this do you know who did this to us ?".
"I cannot be certain Xarrisse but a couple of mazura ago the Terrans with the aid of pirates began attacking our stations and mines that supplied our weapons factories to limit our ability to wage war on them. When I saw what they were doing I took steps and they almost succeded in killing me for stopping them. I would hazard a guess that by attacking the Yaki in such a way they were attempting to disrupt the Paranid weapons production in the same way but using you to do it for them instead of Pirates as they did with us".
"And people call us ruthless Xarrisse spat".
"An impression we cultivate my Lady but it matters little the damage is done now Che t'nn observed You Lord father will have no choice now".
"Perhaps..... perhaps not I muttered aloud standing and going to the window and looking long and hard at the Arran. Xarrisse I need to speak with your father now before he turns your part of the verse into chaos".
Xarrisse looked up startled at my tone then saw what held my gaze and agreed Bekka activated the concealed units built into the table and gave Xarrisse her place.
Xarrisse need no further encouragement and removed a jewel from a bracelet she wore and attached it to the console.

"Well know we both the source of those lies father, my brothers tongue is as treacherous as his acts of which I have the proof of in my hand".
"So you did not do battle in lasting Vengeance daughter is that your claim".
"I make no such false claims father the battle was met and well fought as you have no doubt been shown but were you shown all that occurred or just a portion of the duel. Let me speak plainly father Chasen has overreached himself in contriving my end at the hands of another".
"You have proof of this Daughter if so I will see it with my own eyes"
"I have the proof better yet I have my brothers catpaws confession of his part in this treachery and Lockemslat is in my hand".

"You seem unconcerned for your own safety Kert why is that, do you not fear the Yaki" Xarrisse asked obviously troubled by my lack of concern.
"Lets Just say I know something you don't I said cryptically "now lets arrange dinner I think we would be both wise to invite some guests say six apiece so that we all know what we are going to be doing tomorrow". and with that I left them to get changed and to make certain other arrangements.
"Kert you are an evil man" Bekka laughed joining me in the shower later.
"I know but wait until you see the look on her face tomorrow it's going to be priceless" I grabbed some lotion and began lathering her back knowing it was something she found especially comforting.
"I think I should be wearing my body armour then Che t'nn judges her ferocious in battle and I can see what you've got planned upsetting her".
"That may come in handy I'm expecting an uninvited guest at the meeting if I am right things could get messy pretty rapidly".
"Her brother Chasen you mean I assume you've taken that into consideration as well, turn around I'll do your back ".
I was happy to oblige unable to keep my anticipation of tomorrow out of my thoughts this time I felt I was definitely ahead of the game.

"Are you certain you would not prefer to be on your own ship Kert my father might order you held".
"I think not Xarrisse just jump to Senators south gate we wouldn't want to be late would we".
Bekka gave my foot a gentle kick to warn me of teasing Xarrisse further as we dropped into the system, The huge ship was accelerated a good distance from the Gate before it was swung about to hold our position facing it. I waited a while before I spoke again.
"It seems your father is late let's go and meet him it will save him a trip I suggested".
Xarrisse looked at me long and hard she suspected by now that I knew more than I was letting on.
"No one enters Weavers tempest uninvited by my father on pain of death but I see you are determined on your head be it then Kert" Xarrisse said ordering the gate to be transited whilst looking at me intently to see if she could fathom what I intended.
The timing could not have been better for as we exited the Gate her fathers ship was entering the Hub sector by its counter part. It had taken a fair amount of work advising the regular users of the gate that we were shutting the Hub down for a Stazura but I had managed to have it vacated so that the Yaki Lords Akurei the Sword the Mammoth and the Brigantine were the only ships in sector Except for those docked at the hub of course.
"By the Gods how have you done this Dannar" Xarrisse demanded turning her seat to face me.
"This is called the gate hub Xarriesse with it I can control the gates anywhere in the verse Senators is Behind us and beyond the gate your father has just transited lies Weavers tempest, I thought your father might be more likely to listen if I demonstrated the power I could wield, speaking of which you might want to contact him and let him know where he is".
Xarrisse gave me a withering look Bekka would have been proud of before turning her chair about and contacting her fathers ship, his image appeared on the main screen a sezura later.

Xarrisse looked to me to answer the challenge he had thrown down "I would be honoured to meet you aboard your ship Lord I replied" ignoring the weight of Bekkas foot on my own.
"Hah a man of courage at last I thought the rest of the verse had forgotten how to breed them" Hilan Tagar Lord of the Yaki roared in delight, "we shall close on you to transport range" he announced.
The man was as good as his word and within Mizura we were in transport range and we were beamed across to a level just below the bridge where Yaki troops were waiting to meet us and escort us to meet the Yaki Lord.
Xarrisse and Che t'nn walked ahead of us into the mans private chambers which dwarfed those of mine on the Sword.
As soon as he saw Xarrisse he strode forward and picked her up clear of the floor kissing her soundly before lowering her gently and turning to face me.
"My daughter tells me you fought well Dannar, Xarrisse did you ever get him to stop haggling".
I remembered that comparison of me to a Teladi knowing it was in reprisal for the oompah thing but even so it still stung.
"Indeed father he has made good all damage done and more. The mammoth yonder is loaded to the Gunnels with food stuffs for the Yaki".
"And how much did he demand of you for such a prize daughter I know well the price of such at this time".
The contents of that one are part of the reparations agreed for the insult done to me when he attacked the Celeneteree father he does require payment on all future deliveries though".
"Do you indeed Dannar and what price do you set on your goods then he asked menacingly".
"I would ask the same price as I ask all my other customers Hilan Tagar average market price not a credit less your daughter has cost me enough already". I said referring to the contents of the Mammoth.
"Do you seek to bribe me Dannar no one charges that price".
"I do it is easily checked and if we have time I will tell you why I do not seek profits where others would".
"Why would we not have time now he demanded"
"Because your son will attempt to conceal his treachery from you and the other Yaki lords by destroying my ship where he believes I have Lockemtlas in custody and the evidence of his betrayal".
"And if my son does not appear as you have predicted Dannar what then, you will have accused my son of treachery that I will not allow to go unpunished".
I did not fail to notice the sudden tension about the Guards in the room at their Lords words nor did I doubt what they might intend to do to me if my accusations proved false.
"Then whilst we await the arrival of my son I will see the record of this duel you both fought if it shows my daughter as having been defeated as some have claimed then all your lives are forfeit".
Hilan inserted the data cube Carrisse gave him and watched the recording taken from a satellites data core that was incapable of being tampered with being a one time use recording medium. Hilan waited till The Celenteree jumped out of system still clearly designated as Yaki.
"Tell me Dannar truthfully why did you cease your attack" he asked.
"My men had managed to reach deck three only after a protracted struggle, my senior man on board assured me that given the skill of those we faced even with another full team on board we might not succeed and your daughter had already warned me she would destroy the ship before I could effect its capture".
"Did you know she was Yaki when she told you this".
"No she told me a short while later at which point I withdrew my men and arranged to get the ship out of Paranid space".
"Che t'nn did you give this man your Jatra"
"MY blade has not left my side my lord Che t'nn" replied impassively
"Is that sufficient proof for you" Hilan demanded of a man who had stepped forward from behind a curtain to the back of the room.
"Proof without question Lord Hilan, Lady Xarrisse my apologies for ever doubting you".
"Now this second recording what is its purpose Dannar". asked Hila juggling the cube in his hand.
"On Learning that I had been manipulated I decided to obtain proof of it and to punish those who had lied to me I am afraid I had to ask one of my men to impersonate a Yaki warrior for it to succeed no slight was intended by this I assure you".
Hilan played the recording immediately recognising Lockemslat his rage building as he watched and listened to the Paranids damming words.
"You have this Paranid" Hilan asked his voice low and all the more menacing because of it.
"He is my prisoner father Xarrisse" said stepping forward
"You said he was on your ship Dannar"
"No Lord Hilan I said that is where your son would believe him to be on arrival he will attempt to destroy my ship at which point my people will defend themselves. I have told them to cripple his ship no more".
"I think not Xarrisse just jump to Senators south gate we wouldn't want to be late would we".
Bekka gave my foot a gentle kick to warn me of teasing Xarrisse further as we dropped into the system, The huge ship was accelerated a good distance from the Gate before it was swung about to hold our position facing it. I waited a while before I spoke again.
"It seems your father is late let's go and meet him it will save him a trip I suggested".
Xarrisse looked at me long and hard she suspected by now that I knew more than I was letting on.
"No one enters Weavers tempest uninvited by my father on pain of death but I see you are determined on your head be it then Kert" Xarrisse said ordering the gate to be transited whilst looking at me intently to see if she could fathom what I intended.
The timing could not have been better for as we exited the Gate her fathers ship was entering the Hub sector by its counter part. It had taken a fair amount of work advising the regular users of the gate that we were shutting the Hub down for a Stazura but I had managed to have it vacated so that the Yaki Lords Akurei the Sword the Mammoth and the Brigantine were the only ships in sector Except for those docked at the hub of course.
"By the Gods how have you done this Dannar" Xarrisse demanded turning her seat to face me.
"This is called the gate hub Xarriesse with it I can control the gates anywhere in the verse Senators is Behind us and beyond the gate your father has just transited lies Weavers tempest, I thought your father might be more likely to listen if I demonstrated the power I could wield, speaking of which you might want to contact him and let him know where he is".
Xarrisse gave me a withering look Bekka would have been proud of before turning her chair about and contacting her fathers ship, his image appeared on the main screen a sezura later.

A moment later a man stepped forward and Hilan put a sector map on the main display. It appears you are psychic Dannar that ship is the Tenhall my sons personnel ship he has arrived from Senators perhaps he thought to meet you there in my stead".
"Most likely". I agreed watching as the Akurei made straight for the Sword
"Should he attack your ship I would ask they not be sparing in their retaliation Dannar, better he die in battle than as a traitor to his people" Hilan said with some regret in his voice.
I sent the signal using the concealed transmitter and felt the answering pulse from Jako who commanded the Sword in my stead.
The engagement was swift and clinical as soon as the Akurei fired the Sword launched a Barrage of Hammers at a range that denied him the chance to escape by jumping out of the Sector. I took no pleasure in the destruction of the ship it was an execution pure and simple.
"Our business here is done Dannar my daughter will be the one to speak with you regarding any further dealings between us, you have done the Yaki a service but still I am a father and I do not thank you for this". See them back to his ship daughter then return home".
Xarrisse bowed and led us from the room she said little perhaps the death of her brother had hurt her more than she cared to admit even though he had sought her own end. "My father is not ungrateful Dannar it will take time but he will recognise fully what you have done for us. By your acts you have averted a bloody conflict that would have decimated us he knows this yet in his heart he is still lost a father who has lost a son".
"And you have lost a brother Xarrisse, You know how to contact me should you have need" I replied as the Transporter placed us back aboard the Sword.
I watched as the Yaki ships left the sector the mammoth with is precious cargo following in their wake wondering if I would see it or Xarrisse again. Once they were gone I ordered the Hub control centre to re-establish the former gate settings then Jumped for home.
I docked the Sword and told the crew they had a Wozura before we were likely to head out again and told them to make the most of it.
Within a couple of Mizura the ship was almost deserted as they took me at my word.
"You need a break as well Kert we both do" Bekka told me as we relaxed in our apartment. "Why don't we go and find that beach again".
"The idea appealed to me on a lot of levels so I left a message with the com centre and told them I was going down to the planet and we both grabbed a shuttle before anyone could come up with something I had to do right that minute.
We found the beach again though there were some people from the city enjoying themselves but that was okay as well as we wondered amongst them anonymously.
We even got invited back to a residence for an evening meal by a group of them. The evening was enjoyable and ended all too soon for me but we made our way back to the city and I was surprised at the sheer number of people who were about even at this late hour.
"Its all your doing Kert people are making this their home putting down roots for the long haul isn't that what you wanted".
"Of course it is Bekka its one thing to imagine it but this".
"Yeah making your dreams become a reality is a bitch isn't it" she laughed as we arrived at the hotel.
The receptionist didn't even blink as we checked in which was both a little disconcerting and pleasing at the same time. The room was tiny compared to our own apartment at the base but it was perfect in that it was a place we could just hide away from our world for a few precious Tazura. It couldn't last though and I knew it was time to go back when I saw Cheram in civilian clothes waiting for us in the foyer as we were about to go out again for the day. We joined him for a morning coffee in the hotels restaurant.
"Sorry to interrupt your layover sir but the Chief has received a message he thinks you might want to look at".
"Does the Chief dislike you Cheram" Bekka asked sipping her coffee.
"Not that I am aware of ma'am"
"I was just wondering why he always sends you to fetch us when we slope of for a while".
"The chief thinks you like me ma'am so he figures you're not likely to break anything to serious" he replied with a straight face.
We arrived back on station within the stazura and checked in at the command post once we had got back into our ships gear.
"Chief Cheram said you had a message you wanted us to look at".
"I do Kert and I got to say you look a hell of a lot better than you did before you took your break. Come on through I know you would want to see this yourself".
Jako threw the message up on the monitor it had been sent to the Hub command post the previous day by it's time stamp so I guessed Jako had sat on it before sending Cheram to go find us.
I watched the message it seemed Braks had been busy with the result of the gate research that Boron had been doing and needed it to be tried out which of course was where I came in they had decided they wanted a back dorr into Terren space specifically Heretics end the only complication was that meant deploying the prototype in the north of void of opportunity a pirate infested sector east of PTNI.
Typically Braks had already ordered the research ship to make its way there which irritated me to the point where I considered not responding and I said as much to Bekka till she reminded me I had promised that Teladi in freedoms reach I would help vindicate her friends research.
"Alright round up the crew" I said.
"Already and waiting aboard for you Kert" Jako admitted
I just laughed at that and within a mizura I was sat back in the chair and initiating the jump. We arrived scant moments before the research ship and moved up high above the ecliptic to get a better view of the sector.
I was rather hoping the pirates gave us a wide berth predictably they decided they wanted to snatch the research ship despite me warning them off.
"Bekka make an example of the nearest group would you" I asked wondering how stupid these people could be ignoring a warning to stay clear from a missile frigate.
I asked com's to contact the pirate station and tell him to call of his dogs before things became unpleasant but the station master ignored my warning and called in some heavies leaving me no choice.
"Okay Bekka do your thing and clear the sector and com's call in a supply ship it looks as though we might want to restock on missiles".
"Captain I think I can give us a clear shot at taking that galleon Bekka called".
"Not this time Bekka there' too many of them jumping in let's get this research ship to where it wants to be then we can take another look at the situation".
"Roger that she answered" as she launched another barrage of missiles
This time she took out the stations laser towers which had the man in charge over there screaming curses at me as he launched yet more fighters I got irritated at that point as I think did Bekka because a few moments later the base ceased to exist in a blast of nuclear fire that could be seen across the system.
That shocked the hell out of the pirates in system and for a moment I thought they might have come up with the idea of saving their own lives and keeping clear of us instead they attacked on mass. A few managed to get close but they were always going to loose the freighter running alongside us was replacing our missile stocks as fast as Bekka could fire them.
Under such a sustained level of fire some did break and run for the gate the rest soon fell to Bekka's missiles.
The research ship finally reached the coordinates they had decided they wanted to launch the new gate.
It was eerie watching the thin as it tumbled through space then it stopped spinning as electrical discharges struck it from the emptiness of space and within moments it had burst into life.
The head scientist aboard the research ship was literally jumping up and down with joy as he announced the deployment was a success and that his sensors indicated there was an active gate at the far end of the sector this gate had just linked to.

It was predictable of course that they wanted me to map the sector for them and confirm that the far gate did in fact link to Heretics end.
I took us through the gate and started doing sensor sweeps it was I determined a huge sector and I had no intention of spending days doing this. I got coms to contact the Gate Hub and asked Erin jump to meet me with a fully equipped kestrel on board. I had learnt that since we had captured the ship Erin had basically appropriated it for her own use.
I would have to speak to her about that I wanted to reverse engineer it and make more of them for our company fleet with the specs on that thing it could escort a convoy all by itself and with a couple of heavy fighters on board it would be able to handle almost anything in its class and maybe even an M7.
I asked her to have the Kestrel make a sector map and she matched out course and speed as we headed for other Gate.
I had her beam aboard and I told her what I wanted to do with the Hyperion at which she point blank refused till I explained the facts of life to her and told her bluntly it would help save the lives of our people running convoy duties not to mention those of the freighter pilots they were assigned to.
She reluctantly gave in but only after I had promised that she would have the first one of the line and her choice of crew and M3 fighters to station on it.
Well that went nearly as well as I could wish" I said to Bekka as we relaxed in our quarters just beyond the bridge.
"Not really Kert she's been doing a lot of research on M3 fighters and she seems pretty set on having Tenjins for her ship".
I thought about that long and hard a lot would depend on wether the Yaki were prepared to deal with us, I made a mental note to broach the subject with Xarrisse next time we spoke it might be possible to get some sort of trade of going and we only needed three to start with two for Erin and one to reverse engineer.
"Well that can keep for the moment" I said drawing Bekka closer to me do you realise this is one of the few times we've entered a sector where people are not actually shooting at us".
"Yeah it is kinda dull" Bekka admitted smiling to let me know she was only kidding, sometimes it was difficult to be sure.
I stuck our nose through the other gate just long enough to confirm it was Heretics end before ducking back through and making our way back to the southern gate to forward the information to the Research ship.
The Research ship had jumped out of the sector when we returned leaving instructions only that we should call in at the NMMC HQ as we passed back through the PTNI sector.
The upshot was that after paying a rather swingeing fee I was given the sector as my own registered and everything throughout the verse.
Better still I now had somewhere I could place that Head quarters I Had stashed in Zyarths as a forward base for our commonwealth operations and as a place where I could sell of the excess products from the redoubt with no one being able to trace it back to us it was perfect.
I jumped back to the sector and began setting up the company command operations and based all our fighters there. I must admit at being surprised when I saw how many we actually had now but I still put up a formidable laser tower field to ensure our visitors behaved themselves. In the future I would also be stationing a fleet there to prevent any untoward threats from the terrens once they learnt of our new sector.
IT was the Yaki however that triggered the Alarms first till I identified the ship and ordered the stations defence forces to stand down.
Xarrisse docked at the station and I was there to greet her and Che t'nn when they disembarked and to take them to our main conference room sensing this was not just a social visit.
Once I had arranged refreshments and snacks I cleared the room.
"Alright Xarrisse whilst it is good to see you again I take it this is not just a social call".
"Not entirely no" she admitted pausing to take a sip of her wine, "my father was most pleased to learn that you now own this newly discovered sector and he has a business proposition for you".
"News certainly travels fast I sighed I've been here less than a Wozura you know. alright what does your lord father require ?".
"With your consent he wants to build some factories here under your warding".
"You mean he doesn't want people to know they are Yaki facilities" I guessed.
"Essentially yes he has already purchased the stations and merely requires your agreement before he orders their construction he has even given consent to you taxing the stations in the normal manner all legal and above board".
I considered that the Yaki as a whole wanted from what I could gather to be left alone by all the other races it was there lack of resources that forced them out into the commonwealth if I could negate the need for them doing that then I would be solving a lot of problems in one go not least of which was arranging the transportation of bio stuffs that they were still buying from us in quantity.
"All right on one no two conditions I will insist on the first the second is up to your father".
"Which are asked Xarrisse warily"
"In this sector my ships are the law I do not want the Yaki plundering my trade lanes if he consents to this then he can build his stations".
"What if a Yaki ship is attacked Kert"
"Then it can defend itself of course and we will intervene on it's behalf where possible".
"And secondly I would like to be able to buy ships from you some of the designs are exceptional I don't insist on the latter but I would be pleased if it was possible".
"That is acceptable Kert I will let my father know he can begin now why don't you and Bekka show me around this fine station of yours I have seen Corporations before from afar but never been aboard one" Xarrisse said concluding the negotiations a lot more easily than I had anticipated.
I found out why a little while later when I found that Hilan had built a space weed and distillery complex to rival anything in the known verse.
I took us through the gate and started doing sensor sweeps it was I determined a huge sector and I had no intention of spending days doing this. I got coms to contact the Gate Hub and asked Erin jump to meet me with a fully equipped kestrel on board. I had learnt that since we had captured the ship Erin had basically appropriated it for her own use.
I would have to speak to her about that I wanted to reverse engineer it and make more of them for our company fleet with the specs on that thing it could escort a convoy all by itself and with a couple of heavy fighters on board it would be able to handle almost anything in its class and maybe even an M7.
I asked her to have the Kestrel make a sector map and she matched out course and speed as we headed for other Gate.
I had her beam aboard and I told her what I wanted to do with the Hyperion at which she point blank refused till I explained the facts of life to her and told her bluntly it would help save the lives of our people running convoy duties not to mention those of the freighter pilots they were assigned to.
She reluctantly gave in but only after I had promised that she would have the first one of the line and her choice of crew and M3 fighters to station on it.
Well that went nearly as well as I could wish" I said to Bekka as we relaxed in our quarters just beyond the bridge.
"Not really Kert she's been doing a lot of research on M3 fighters and she seems pretty set on having Tenjins for her ship".
I thought about that long and hard a lot would depend on wether the Yaki were prepared to deal with us, I made a mental note to broach the subject with Xarrisse next time we spoke it might be possible to get some sort of trade of going and we only needed three to start with two for Erin and one to reverse engineer.
"Well that can keep for the moment" I said drawing Bekka closer to me do you realise this is one of the few times we've entered a sector where people are not actually shooting at us".
"Yeah it is kinda dull" Bekka admitted smiling to let me know she was only kidding, sometimes it was difficult to be sure.
I stuck our nose through the other gate just long enough to confirm it was Heretics end before ducking back through and making our way back to the southern gate to forward the information to the Research ship.
The Research ship had jumped out of the sector when we returned leaving instructions only that we should call in at the NMMC HQ as we passed back through the PTNI sector.
The upshot was that after paying a rather swingeing fee I was given the sector as my own registered and everything throughout the verse.
Better still I now had somewhere I could place that Head quarters I Had stashed in Zyarths as a forward base for our commonwealth operations and as a place where I could sell of the excess products from the redoubt with no one being able to trace it back to us it was perfect.
I jumped back to the sector and began setting up the company command operations and based all our fighters there. I must admit at being surprised when I saw how many we actually had now but I still put up a formidable laser tower field to ensure our visitors behaved themselves. In the future I would also be stationing a fleet there to prevent any untoward threats from the terrens once they learnt of our new sector.
IT was the Yaki however that triggered the Alarms first till I identified the ship and ordered the stations defence forces to stand down.
Xarrisse docked at the station and I was there to greet her and Che t'nn when they disembarked and to take them to our main conference room sensing this was not just a social visit.
Once I had arranged refreshments and snacks I cleared the room.

When I got back to the Redoubt I was the subject o f a lot of jokes on my behalf regarding my latest business venture despite my protests that I knew nothing about them till they were built.
"What did you expect Kert you said yourself at the time you thought Xarrisse had been to eaisily led into accepting the deal you made and why concern yourself it is our sector and no laws are being broken even the Teladi are pleased".
"Of course they are they get a percentage of the take for no investment why wouldn't they be happy".
"Oh for gods sake Kert what did you expect dealing with the Yaki a least we got those Tenjins you wanted".
"That Erin wanted I corrected her and where has she been lately one minute she's all over me like a rash and the next she's gone".
"She's most likely on the production floor supervising the construction of Her ship Kert you did promise her it fresh off the line, if not she'll be somewhere in system flying those Tenjin's you bought with Daye. Now will you stop being so damn grouchy about something you can't change".
Something in her voice caught my attention she was worried which meant if she was worried enough for her to let it show it was serious, I stood up and held her close "I'm sorry I admitted I can't change it so I should take my lumps. Now do you want to tell me what's got you so upset or is it me that's causing you a problem".
"No it's not you it's me I feel on edge and I don't know why Kert I just feel there's something coming at us but it's just over the horizon and I can't see it".
"Hey I said welcome to my world but seriously perhaps we just need a break I mean a real break from all of this. Somewhere Cheram can't find us I suggested".
"Could we I mean just take off on our own without a schedule". she asked
"Of course we can I'll have the Phantom sent here and then we can go touring in style how does that sound".
"You promise" she asked in a small voice.
"I promise, I 'll just inform Jako what I intend and make it clear I want us left alone".
We went into my study area and I arranged for the Phantom to be sent to the base here then told Jako of our plans.
He thought it was a good idea and assured me they would manage without us for however long we needed to take. His easy acceptance of our proposed absence told me more clearly than anything else he thought we needed a rest, so we spent an hour sorting out a few minor issues we had pending before I passed control of all our operations to him.
I re-joined Bekka in the lounge where she had laid out a light supper and told her we could start packing in the morning.
"Packing hell Kert I intend to do some serious shopping on this trip so bring your wallet with you".
She was so cheerful instead of her earlier mood that I agreed instantly not worrying overmuch about the cost by all accounts I was a rich man I mean how much could she spend in a couple of Wozura.

We arrived on the docks at mid morning the following day with literally the bare essentials we would need till we hit a resort some where. I quite fancied a trip back home and Bekka thought that would be good for a low key start plus we hadn't seen my folks since we got married and Bekka wanted to tell them about the child before the event not after.
We got diverted at the docks though as the manager explained the Phantom had been diverted for a special transport mission.
I was a little bit annoyed and intended to speak to people about that when I got back till I saw Erinn standing at the docking access to the alternate ship.
"Slight change of plan skip if you and Bekka would like to go on board you'll find your staterooms are ready for you".
"She's ready then Erinn what have you called her".
"She's Tannith Kert named for an ancient goddess from old history now come aboard I want to show her off" she admitted
We were met at the ships hatch proper by a marine standing watch.
"Cheram what an unexpected surprise and just what are you doing here I demanded"
"Sir I am ordered to accompany you and Bekka to ensure your holiday is undisturbed and to ensure the safety of the Tannith sir. Truth to be told sir me and the lads volunteered for this gig gets us of the base for a while and the chief wants all our high priced transport ships to have troops on board say's it will make the clients feel safer".
"That was my idea Erinn admitted as she led us into the ship and up towards the bridge this is the ultimate in luxury yachts Kert people from one end of the verse to the other will be queuing up to hire them. Plus he figured the fact that you were going to be hitting the high spots would get it noticed good advertising and all".
We arrived on the bridge at that point and I was astounded it did indeed look like a luxury sports yacht in its styling not the Military M6 Corvette the original had been.
"Don't be fooled Captain she looks real pretty but this lady has got all her teeth. I've also got Daye as pilot for one of the Tenjns and Endy springer is in the other and a hold full of nukes should occasion demand. There is just one thing Kert and I don't want you to get mad at me but..."
"I already got it this is your ship Erinn and you're the one in the chair, now why don't you take her out and impress us. I'll want to drop in on my folks some time later today but time is not a consideration so enjoy youself".

Erin took my words literally and I could see why she wanted a Hyperion the thing was not only fast it was as agile as an M3 fighter w bounced across the verse jumping from one sector to another on her version of a grand tour. Each time she dropped me and Bekka of at a resort planet she would cruise the sector letting everyone get a good look at the Tannith.
The result being that every time we docked we had swarms of people making sure we were escorted to the best hotels available and Bekkka was guided to the luxury vendors where she seemed intent on buying every thing in sight and would return from her shopping forays with a caravan of porters bringing her purchases back to the ship.
It got to a point where I was considering having a freighter meet up with us to transfer some of the stuff she had bought I thought she was overdoing it a little bit till Erin put me straight on that score.
"She's having fun Kert, leave her alone she'll get over it once you start paying more attention to her, she's at that time where she knows the baby is going to change things so instead of standing here on my ship worrying about the credits she's spending go and join her she's doing this to impress you Kert, she wants you to make her feel wanted despite the fact she's starting to show.
That little conversation put me in my place and I took Erins advice and joined Bekka on her shopping foray's.
Erins advice had proved correct once I joined her Bekka stopped buying everything in sight I didn't stop her buying what she wanted but with me there with her she didn't have to use shopping just to gain my attention.
So after cutting a swathe through half a dozen resort worlds we arrived at Argon prime at the request of one of the crowd we had met on Menelaus who insisted on inviting us to the grand Ball at the Verin palace the premier social event of the year for everyone who was anyone on Argon prime.
It was showing of on my part but instead of docking at a station and transferring to a shuttle I had Erin land at the spaceport planet side where the Hyperion attracted crowds of onlookers as Erin brought us in to an inch perfect landing on the pad escorted by the planetary defence fighters as we descended. The Tannith dwarfed the other ships on the field, we even made the local news with the reporters speculating on what mogul owned such a magnificent personnel yacht.
Erin was made up with that being able to show of her ship really gave her a buzz.
It did not take them long to learn it was me aboard and soon the news casts were speculating on what the decorated hero of Heretics end was doing on Argon prime speculating wildly that I was here to launch a new initiative against the Terrans was the least fanciful of the reasons being put forward for our being here.
"You've got to stop this Kert" Bekka said closing the channel on yet another broadcaster discussing my motives for being here.
"How" I asked recognising that this media attention was not what I wanted and that it had been a mistake to have Erin land the ship.
"Give them an interview tell them the truth, that we are on holiday" she snapped "staying cooped up on this ship is not my idea of fun Kert".
So I arranged an interview with the Argon prime network the biggest media corporation in the sector and invited their presenter aboard the Tannith for an exclusive.
Mylene Clas the stations lead interviewer arrived at the Tanith the following morning complete with her camera crew as I met her at the boarding ramp and escorted her aboard, I'd told the News station that I wanted an informal style interview rather than being a staged production in a studio somewhere.
"Welcome aboard Ms Clas its a pleasure to meet you I'm a fan of yours"
"Why thank you commander Dannar"
"Kert please, Ms Clas whilst I am proud of the rank I'd rather we kept this informal"
"Of course Kert this is a magnificent ship you have and you certainly made a dramatic arrival here on Argon was that your intent".
I had to reappraise Mylene at that point she was a lot smarter than I had given her credit for but I could use that.
"Unconciously perhaps I admitted but this ship is not mine, I mean I own her but this ship belongs to Erin Braks the Captain of the Tannith my long suffering Chauffeur".
I Introduced her to Erin who looked fleet from head to toe despite the fact she wore a Company uniform, Erin was delighted to answer Mylenes questions about the ship which gave me time to decide where I wanted this interview to go I spoke quietly to Bekka on my wrist com and got her ready before Mylene turned her attention and the cameras back to me.
"You have a distinguished crew Kert if I recall Captain Braks was one of the founding members of your corporation".
That told me that Mylene had done a lot of research on both me and the Peace Keepers before coming to meet me which put me on my guard this woman was no ones fool. "She is indeed actually she's doing me a favour by having us aboard, when she learnt I was going to take a vacation she insisted that we take advantage of the Tannith. I must admit I was glad to accept her kind offer".
By this time we had reached our staterooms where Bekka had arranged things perfectly.
"Surely you could have just ordered her to accommodate you Kert" Mylene asked.
"I suppose I could have but that's not how we do things in the Peacekeepers, as you mentioned earlier Erin is one of the founding members of our company and this is her ship I and my wife are in fact her guests for this voyage".
"Just what is the purpose of this voyage Kert there has been a lot of speculation in the media on that point".
I showed Mylene to a chair set in the centre of the room around a stunning Split arrow wood coffee table and took a seaty on a couch facing her, Bekka on cue joined us from our rooms dressed in a stunning silk dress that seemed almost ephemeral.
"Please let me introduce you Mylene this is Rebekka my wife she loves your show as much a I do".
"It's a pleasure Bekka" purred joining me on the couch facing Mylene.
"Rebekka....."
"Please call me Bekka, when Kert said you were going to be here I was thrilled" bekka enthused what can I say I'm a fan.
I thought Bekka was overdoing the airheaded thing a bit but Mylene recovered well and went back to the question she had started to ask when we sat down.
"So Kert why are you the corporate head of one of the most regarded independent security companies here on Argon prime there are a lot of rumours going about".
"I can't help you with the rumours Mylene people will always suspect some secret agenda no matter what, the simple truth is that Bekka and I are on a long deserved and much needed vacation and she has always wanted to visit Argon prime it is the jewel of the Argon systems after all".
"Well I can't fault you or Bekka on that Kert but tell us as a man with hands on experience in the outer sectors what is your take on the on going hostilities in the conflicted sectors".
That struck a nerve and it was a question I had hoped to avoid but it was right there in front of me and possibly millions of Argons would be waiting on my answer so I answered it as truthfully as I could.
"The war is a terrible mistake, thousands of lives are being lost in a conflict that is hurting both us and the terrens in the sheer waste of resources that could be used for better things".
"So you are opposed to the war" Mylene stated
"I am a Peacekeeper Mylene that is a mandate I was given by the Argon government and it is one I hold to. I do not however suggest that we allow the Terrens to ride rough shod over us. Like any sane man I deplore the sheer cost and waste of this war but as an Argon I will defend our people from aggressors no matter who they are or what the cost".
"Spoken like a true patriot and we will end this interview here for the moment this is Mylene Clas for Argon prime News network aboard the Tannith".
The camera man downed his transcam and I indicated he should take a seat.
"Okay Kert the fleet are going to love that sound bite as you no doubt intended but tell me of camera what do you really think".
"You don't get it do you Mylene, Kert has just told you the cold hard truth what he feels about the war and what he is prepared to do to defend us and still you doubt him".
Mylene was forced to reassess her view of Bekka at that statement gone was the vapid airhead now she saw the real Bekka in front of her. That took the wind out of her sails as I watched her make the change in her thinking whilst I poured us all a coffee and had the steward put some snacks on the table.
"Okay I get it Kert you are on holiday blah di blah di blah so why give me the interview".
"Because you are the best Mylene I figured that since we were drawing all this media attention we should be selective in who we chose to represent us to the masses as it were".
"You 're using me then".
"Of course we are Mylene just as you are using this to give your stations ratings a boost so how about you shadow us as we explore the delights Argon prime has to offer no formal interviews just tag along put your own slant on things".
"Exclusive rights that's what you are offering right".
"It is but I expect you to maintain some discretion as regards our personal lives we have nothing to hide but we do need privacy occasionally".
I watched her as she thought it over already knowing she would go for it. "Give me a minute" she asked leaving us to contact her station, I caught a bit of the conversation enough to let me know that she had set it up as I wanted.
"Are you sure about this Kert I know you hate being a part of this media circus type of thing" Bekka asked squeezing my hand to comfort me.
"I'd rather we have only one reporter to deal with than the crowd hanging around outside Bekka they'll go away once they learn she's got exclusive rights then we can go back to enjoying ourselves".
Mylene came back to the table and drained her coffee in one go "Okay Kert you've got a deal but I want an interview when you finish your trip here".
I have no problem with that now since you are going to be with us from now till we leave I'll arrange to have guest quarters assigned to you your crew man as well".
"Terrific okay what' on the agenda for today Kert I need time to set things up".
"Well not a great deal we had planned on resting up before the ball this evening and I know Bekka wants a new outfit for the occasion why don't you join us I imagine you know where the better establishments are".
That shook her as she realised she would be joining us at the ball as our guest I would get Bekka to make sure she bought herself a new gown for the occasion and her camera man would have to be smartened up as well the last thing I wanted was to project a bad image. I could tell Bekka was thinking along the same lines as she ordered a limousine to arrive within the hour, I wasn't to happy with the way she eyed me up and down so I suspected that I would be getting spruced up as well.
The shopping foray was fascinating I watched as both Bekka and Mylene tried on uncounted gowns then dutifully asking my opinion before ignoring it entirely but Bekka was having a lot of fun so I was prepared to put up with a great deal because of that fact alone.
We returned to the Tannith late in the afternoon at which point Bekka and Mylene disappeared into our staterooms giving me time to visit the bridge and check in with Erin on any messages that needed my attention.
It seemed Jako was doing his best to ensure our holiday was undisturbed and after glancing through a ream of standard reports I went below to get prepared for the evening myself.
I also had Cheram suited up to act as Mylenes escort so that he could act as our body guard which Erin had insisted on and I was stunned by the transformation it took me some time to determine where he had hidden his weapons but I was confident most other people we would meet that evening would be unaware of them.
"The trick here is discretion" Cheram I warned him as we waited on the ladies to present themselves.
"Understood sir I will endeavour to be discreet should the need arise to kill some one".
That's when I knew he was taking a rise out of me but I let it pass as Mylene and Bekka joined us at the boarding ramp. I had seen them trying the gowns on earlier but the ladies had added something to them that made them both look stunning.
"Shall we ladies" I said taking Bekkas arm and descending to the waiting limousine as Cheram took Mylenes assuming the role he was required to play for the evening.

Erins advice had proved correct once I joined her Bekka stopped buying everything in sight I didn't stop her buying what she wanted but with me there with her she didn't have to use shopping just to gain my attention.
So after cutting a swathe through half a dozen resort worlds we arrived at Argon prime at the request of one of the crowd we had met on Menelaus who insisted on inviting us to the grand Ball at the Verin palace the premier social event of the year for everyone who was anyone on Argon prime.
It was showing of on my part but instead of docking at a station and transferring to a shuttle I had Erin land at the spaceport planet side where the Hyperion attracted crowds of onlookers as Erin brought us in to an inch perfect landing on the pad escorted by the planetary defence fighters as we descended. The Tannith dwarfed the other ships on the field, we even made the local news with the reporters speculating on what mogul owned such a magnificent personnel yacht.
Erin was made up with that being able to show of her ship really gave her a buzz.
It did not take them long to learn it was me aboard and soon the news casts were speculating on what the decorated hero of Heretics end was doing on Argon prime speculating wildly that I was here to launch a new initiative against the Terrans was the least fanciful of the reasons being put forward for our being here.
"You've got to stop this Kert" Bekka said closing the channel on yet another broadcaster discussing my motives for being here.
"How" I asked recognising that this media attention was not what I wanted and that it had been a mistake to have Erin land the ship.
"Give them an interview tell them the truth, that we are on holiday" she snapped "staying cooped up on this ship is not my idea of fun Kert".
So I arranged an interview with the Argon prime network the biggest media corporation in the sector and invited their presenter aboard the Tannith for an exclusive.
Mylene Clas the stations lead interviewer arrived at the Tanith the following morning complete with her camera crew as I met her at the boarding ramp and escorted her aboard, I'd told the News station that I wanted an informal style interview rather than being a staged production in a studio somewhere.
"Welcome aboard Ms Clas its a pleasure to meet you I'm a fan of yours"
"Why thank you commander Dannar"
"Kert please, Ms Clas whilst I am proud of the rank I'd rather we kept this informal"
"Of course Kert this is a magnificent ship you have and you certainly made a dramatic arrival here on Argon was that your intent".
I had to reappraise Mylene at that point she was a lot smarter than I had given her credit for but I could use that.
"Unconciously perhaps I admitted but this ship is not mine, I mean I own her but this ship belongs to Erin Braks the Captain of the Tannith my long suffering Chauffeur".
I Introduced her to Erin who looked fleet from head to toe despite the fact she wore a Company uniform, Erin was delighted to answer Mylenes questions about the ship which gave me time to decide where I wanted this interview to go I spoke quietly to Bekka on my wrist com and got her ready before Mylene turned her attention and the cameras back to me.
"You have a distinguished crew Kert if I recall Captain Braks was one of the founding members of your corporation".
That told me that Mylene had done a lot of research on both me and the Peace Keepers before coming to meet me which put me on my guard this woman was no ones fool. "She is indeed actually she's doing me a favour by having us aboard, when she learnt I was going to take a vacation she insisted that we take advantage of the Tannith. I must admit I was glad to accept her kind offer".
By this time we had reached our staterooms where Bekka had arranged things perfectly.
"Surely you could have just ordered her to accommodate you Kert" Mylene asked.
"I suppose I could have but that's not how we do things in the Peacekeepers, as you mentioned earlier Erin is one of the founding members of our company and this is her ship I and my wife are in fact her guests for this voyage".
"Just what is the purpose of this voyage Kert there has been a lot of speculation in the media on that point".
I showed Mylene to a chair set in the centre of the room around a stunning Split arrow wood coffee table and took a seaty on a couch facing her, Bekka on cue joined us from our rooms dressed in a stunning silk dress that seemed almost ephemeral.
"Please let me introduce you Mylene this is Rebekka my wife she loves your show as much a I do".
"It's a pleasure Bekka" purred joining me on the couch facing Mylene.
"Rebekka....."
"Please call me Bekka, when Kert said you were going to be here I was thrilled" bekka enthused what can I say I'm a fan.
I thought Bekka was overdoing the airheaded thing a bit but Mylene recovered well and went back to the question she had started to ask when we sat down.
"So Kert why are you the corporate head of one of the most regarded independent security companies here on Argon prime there are a lot of rumours going about".
"I can't help you with the rumours Mylene people will always suspect some secret agenda no matter what, the simple truth is that Bekka and I are on a long deserved and much needed vacation and she has always wanted to visit Argon prime it is the jewel of the Argon systems after all".
"Well I can't fault you or Bekka on that Kert but tell us as a man with hands on experience in the outer sectors what is your take on the on going hostilities in the conflicted sectors".
That struck a nerve and it was a question I had hoped to avoid but it was right there in front of me and possibly millions of Argons would be waiting on my answer so I answered it as truthfully as I could.
"The war is a terrible mistake, thousands of lives are being lost in a conflict that is hurting both us and the terrens in the sheer waste of resources that could be used for better things".
"So you are opposed to the war" Mylene stated
"I am a Peacekeeper Mylene that is a mandate I was given by the Argon government and it is one I hold to. I do not however suggest that we allow the Terrens to ride rough shod over us. Like any sane man I deplore the sheer cost and waste of this war but as an Argon I will defend our people from aggressors no matter who they are or what the cost".
"Spoken like a true patriot and we will end this interview here for the moment this is Mylene Clas for Argon prime News network aboard the Tannith".
The camera man downed his transcam and I indicated he should take a seat.
"Okay Kert the fleet are going to love that sound bite as you no doubt intended but tell me of camera what do you really think".
"You don't get it do you Mylene, Kert has just told you the cold hard truth what he feels about the war and what he is prepared to do to defend us and still you doubt him".
Mylene was forced to reassess her view of Bekka at that statement gone was the vapid airhead now she saw the real Bekka in front of her. That took the wind out of her sails as I watched her make the change in her thinking whilst I poured us all a coffee and had the steward put some snacks on the table.
"Okay I get it Kert you are on holiday blah di blah di blah so why give me the interview".
"Because you are the best Mylene I figured that since we were drawing all this media attention we should be selective in who we chose to represent us to the masses as it were".
"You 're using me then".
"Of course we are Mylene just as you are using this to give your stations ratings a boost so how about you shadow us as we explore the delights Argon prime has to offer no formal interviews just tag along put your own slant on things".
"Exclusive rights that's what you are offering right".
"It is but I expect you to maintain some discretion as regards our personal lives we have nothing to hide but we do need privacy occasionally".
I watched her as she thought it over already knowing she would go for it. "Give me a minute" she asked leaving us to contact her station, I caught a bit of the conversation enough to let me know that she had set it up as I wanted.
"Are you sure about this Kert I know you hate being a part of this media circus type of thing" Bekka asked squeezing my hand to comfort me.
"I'd rather we have only one reporter to deal with than the crowd hanging around outside Bekka they'll go away once they learn she's got exclusive rights then we can go back to enjoying ourselves".
Mylene came back to the table and drained her coffee in one go "Okay Kert you've got a deal but I want an interview when you finish your trip here".
I have no problem with that now since you are going to be with us from now till we leave I'll arrange to have guest quarters assigned to you your crew man as well".
"Terrific okay what' on the agenda for today Kert I need time to set things up".
"Well not a great deal we had planned on resting up before the ball this evening and I know Bekka wants a new outfit for the occasion why don't you join us I imagine you know where the better establishments are".
That shook her as she realised she would be joining us at the ball as our guest I would get Bekka to make sure she bought herself a new gown for the occasion and her camera man would have to be smartened up as well the last thing I wanted was to project a bad image. I could tell Bekka was thinking along the same lines as she ordered a limousine to arrive within the hour, I wasn't to happy with the way she eyed me up and down so I suspected that I would be getting spruced up as well.
The shopping foray was fascinating I watched as both Bekka and Mylene tried on uncounted gowns then dutifully asking my opinion before ignoring it entirely but Bekka was having a lot of fun so I was prepared to put up with a great deal because of that fact alone.
We returned to the Tannith late in the afternoon at which point Bekka and Mylene disappeared into our staterooms giving me time to visit the bridge and check in with Erin on any messages that needed my attention.
It seemed Jako was doing his best to ensure our holiday was undisturbed and after glancing through a ream of standard reports I went below to get prepared for the evening myself.
I also had Cheram suited up to act as Mylenes escort so that he could act as our body guard which Erin had insisted on and I was stunned by the transformation it took me some time to determine where he had hidden his weapons but I was confident most other people we would meet that evening would be unaware of them.
"The trick here is discretion" Cheram I warned him as we waited on the ladies to present themselves.
"Understood sir I will endeavour to be discreet should the need arise to kill some one".
That's when I knew he was taking a rise out of me but I let it pass as Mylene and Bekka joined us at the boarding ramp. I had seen them trying the gowns on earlier but the ladies had added something to them that made them both look stunning.
"Shall we ladies" I said taking Bekkas arm and descending to the waiting limousine as Cheram took Mylenes assuming the role he was required to play for the evening.

The Verin Palace was a truly imposing sight sat high above the capitol city with its walls bathed in light from the vast number of media crews lighting as they recorded the arrival of the guests.
I was impressed as we were discreetly directed to the ballroom and formally announced as we made our way down the marble stairs to be greeted by our hosts. Here was a world I had once aspired to be part of and I found that it was not something I wanted now rather it was something to be endured.
So we mingled amongst the greats of Argon society here were the movers and shakers that controlled the lives of billions of people across the verse and I was disappointed till we were approached by a man whose very presence cleared a path before him.
"Kert Dannar I believe I have been looking forward to meeting you in person and giving you my thanks for what you have done for the Argon".
"I strive to do my duty sir" I replied lamely
"Then let me say you do it well I have heard nought but good things about you Kert here you are a Hero of the federation a Knight of the kings guard and held as a protector of the family Rhonkar I am honoured to meet so distinguished a man such as yourself".
"As am I to meet you Admiral".
"Well that should take care of the appropriate introductions Kert so why don't you introduce me to the ladies in your company".
The man winked at me Ban Danner the most esteemed man of all Argon was human I realised. "Of course sir this is my wife Rebbekka and this is Mylene Clas.
"Bekka I believe is your preferred name my lady I am honoured and enthralled by your beauty Kert do not let this one go she is a rare thing, Ah Mylene a pleasure as always he continued smoothly ".
"Come Kert let us leave the ladies to enjoy themselves there is much we should discuss".
It was not an invitation no matter how politely phrased Ban led me a short distance away but still within view of Bekka and Cheram before he broached the subject he wanted to dscuss.
"I have received several messages from Rhonkar he wonders if you have forgotten your promises to him" Ban said bluntly.
"I have not forgotten Ban but this Bridle has placed demands on me that are proving difficult to provide, plus of course the fact that she has placed her research ship deep in pirate space makes it harder still".
I had let my anger show as I spoke and Ban took that in before he spoke again . "I have no doubt as to that but her work is more important than you realise Kert I don't have as much information as I would wish but I cannot impress on you enough how important her work is not just to Argon but to all the races. If there is anything I can do to help you in this contact me and I will provide what I can".
Ban gave me a coded card with his contact details embedded in it.
"Now let us rejoin the ladies your wife is becoming concerned at your absence. and Kert say nothing of what we have discussed in Ms Clas's hearing".
We rejoined the ladies with Ban giving no sign of ehat we had discussed and soon we found ourselves the centre of attention as people gravitated into the presence of Argon's most revered figure I could tell Mylene was almost wetting herself at being able to speak with Ban under the gaze of her mans cameras's.
That's when I saw her standing almost alone at the edge of the throng. I took Bekkas hand without thought my heart aching at the grief I saw in her eyes.
"Valerie its been too long" I said as she saw me standing in front of her, for a moment she seemed lost till she recognised me.
"Kert my gods I didn't recognise you what on earth are you doing here". she asked but still I felt her pain washing over me despite her attempt to conceal it.
"What is it Val what's wrong" I asked
"I just heard" she said forcing herself to give voice the words she did not want to utter "the Resoloute its gone Kert my parents wanted me to be here but she's gone Tom's dead and I'm stood here in all my finery and he's dead Kert I should have been there with him".
I thought my heart would break for her at that point seeing the pain that was tearing at her. Bekka let go of my hand and led her away from me placing a comforting arm around her shoulders as I tried to take in what she had told me.
The Resolute had been the first carrier I had been assigned to she had been there since the start of the war and had become a symbol for the fleet, she had been tagged the lucky ship always surviving no matter the odds against her. I thought back to the people I had known not least of which was the chief on his hanger deck cursing us hotshot pilots whilst secretly admiring our bravado despite the damage we inflicted on our planes.
I drank a silent toast to him and the others who had been lost with him a thousand and more souls lost to a senseless war. I felt a touch on my arm and saw Ban Danner his eyes filled with sorrow as mine were.
"You've heard"he asked
"Yes just this moment its hard to take in, she was invincible no matter what they threw at us she endured".
"Kert I will speak plainly I know you are hurting right now but going on a rampage through the contested sectors will just get you killed, I need you to think clearly here and go against what I know in your heart you want to do we need the research Ho t'sht is doing it will give us an advantage that we have lacked I implore you think before you act".

I didn't think of course I left the Palace and had Erika take of and beam me aboard before we jumped to The Redoubt.
I had the standby crew waiting for me as we jumped for circle of Labour's North gate where I unleashed hell. Then I called in a supply freighter and restocked on missiles before jumping to heretics. I gave them no warning as I began raining death on the defence station the terrans had built, they called in a rapid response group but it could not save them, nothing could as I ordered them destroyed. not caring of the risks I obliterated every terren station and ship in the sector before the rage left me feeling hollow and empty.
"Tellar take us to Argon Prime" I ordered seeing the horror in his eyes at what I had done.
I beamed back aboard the thannis and was soon stood alone on a balcony at the Verin palace my appearance startling the guards who stood down when they recognised me. I got my bearings and went in search of Bekka and found her still with Valerie in a garden court yard.
I said nothing there was no need Bekka knew me better than I knew myself she stood up and held me as I cried appalled by my own acts I needed to be forgiven and I feared I could never be.
"I destroyed them Bekka I said quietly I wiped them from the face of existence in Circle of labour and Heretics end I killed all of them".
"Oh gods Kert what have you done to yourself she asked quietly pulling me closer as I wept".
Some how they got me back to the Tannith where I hid in our rooms watching the news casts.
Mylene did a special when word got out of what I had done in my rage she even interviewed Valerie who praised my revenge on those who had killed so many of her comrades in arms. The special then went on showing me enjoying myself as we had visited the various tourist sites on Argon prime and ended with her asking the question I had no answer for, what caused a man who clearly loved life to commit what some might call an act of genocide no matter what the provocation.
There were other news casts with some people calling for me to be arrested for war crimes. They had a point I recognised that what I had done had possibly escalated the level of the conflict in the war zones but I had reacted as I thought appropriate at the time. I also knew that this put the Peace keepers at risk that I did regret and sent a message to Jako warning him of possible reprisals.
Jako was already on it and he had ordered the construction of more Cobras from our PHQ and had ramped up our munitions production facilities. Which was when I got a call from Mylene reminding me that I had promised her a final interview before I left Argon prime.

I wasn't in the mood for it but Bekka put her foot down and so it was I found myself sat behind my desk facing the cameras once more.
Mylene indicated the cameras were rolling before she went into her introduction.
"This is Mylene Clas bringing you an exclusive interview with Karl Dannar whose recent actions have stirred controversy amongst all Argons across the known Verse".
"Mr Dannar a lot of people are applauding your actions in the war zones whilst others are condemning them in fact some are saying that what you did amounted to crimes against humanity and are calling for your arrest what do you say to that".
I waited a moment to gather my thoughts before I gave my answer.
"I will say this I am not proud of my actions yesterday but the loss of the Resoloute demanded a response from The Argon I chose to make that response to teach the Terrens that their actions have consequences. They killed a lot of my friends men and women who gave their lives attempting to ensure the security of our people. This war is filled with to many loss's on our part I decided that they should know what it feels like to incur such losses themselves and to demonstrate that despite their much vaunted superiority in weapons and ships they are vulnerable. Yesterday I cleared two sectors they claimed as their own tomorrow I may clear two more.
Their precious earth is not beyond my reach and if needs must I will strike them in their heart".
"That is a bold statement and one whose intent seems to be to incite further acts of aggression Mr Dannar is that what you want ?".
"Not at all what I want is for the terrens to stay behind their trans orbital accelerators and to keep to their own space, they are basically xenophobic and as such they have no place in the community of races that has endured for a millennia without them".
"You are suggesting then that the hopes that many have held of reunion with our planet of our origin should be set aside".
"Why not we don't need them our forefathers the remnants of the fleet that saved earth from the terraformers have established a civilisation that we can be proud of a civilisation that is willing to meet and trade with the other races as equals unlike the terrans who mistrust everything about the commonwealth and perceive us a threat to be eliminated".
"That is rather a sweeping statement Kert"
"It is intended to be to long have I watched whilst they have sought to undermine our society by disrupting our trade lanes using acts of terrorism and employing mercenaries to cause us harm well I say they will do this no more. No attempt to hide behind their instruments traitors to all the commonwealth will be tolerated I will strike back tenfold for each such act.
I give the Terrens fair warning if you attack the Argon or any of the other races you attack me and I will respond with force to such attacks in the manner I have demonstrated in Heretics end I one man am capable of imagine what a hundred such men as myself could do to your precious earth".
"Stirring words Mr Dannar but they would lead to an escalation in hostilities is that what you truly want".
"No it is not but the words have to be spoken so that they might be heard we the Argon have held back too long waiting for the terrens to realise the futility of this war. I say no more if they attack us I say we respond with all the force we have at our command no more holding actions to keep them at bay I say we strike them where it will hurt them the most to make them regret the path they have chosen to take".
"Well there we have it people a defiant Kert Dannar telling the terrens to keep out of the commonwealth or else what do you think see the infocast at the end of this program to let us know this is Mylene Clas aboard the Tannith here on Argon prime".
The lights were dimmed as the interview ended I waited for Mylenes reaction knowing that she had not got the interview she expected.
"Are you insane Kert you do know that you've just declared a one man war on the Terrans".
"Of course I do Mylene if you want to come along for the ride I leave in a mizura and you'll see the first blow I strike in terren space".
I had judged her well and soon were all aboard the Tannith for the short trip to rendezvous with the Sword. Teller was a little on edge as I took command having witnessed my rampage in Heretics end I couldn't really blame him for suspecting I might have gone of the deep end.
I hit the all ships com "Alrght people I have no doubt you all watched the broadcast and that I intend to take this war to them anyone who has any doubts about what I am doing can beam aboard the Tannith Dannar out."

Yesterday I cleared two sectors they claimed as their own tomorrow I may clear two more.
Their precious earth is not beyond my reach and if needs must I will strike them in their heart".
"That is a bold statement and one whose intent seems to be to incite further acts of aggression Mr Dannar is that what you want ?".
"Not at all what I want is for the terrens to stay behind their trans orbital accelerators and to keep to their own space, they are basically xenophobic and as such they have no place in the community of races that has endured for a millennia without them".

The Tyr was a formidable enemy designed to bring overwhelming force to a battle but I intended on taking her to prove to the Terrens that I could retaliate in their own space when ever and where ever I chose.
The Tyr was a beast with its massive shielding and waepos arrays it took a lot of hammers to get its shields down and to keep them down as the boarding team latched onto the hull and started cutting their way into the ship. a second fleet jumped into the system whilst we were concentrating on the Tyr Bekka did not miss that fact and whilst still holding the shields of the Tyr down she was taking them out targeting each threat as it got within range of us. I was glad of the missiles Rider had brought into restock us with at that point bekka was expending a lot of ordinance as we moved toward the Tyr with the Tannith acting as our missile defence.
I listened to our marines as they moved ever deeper into the heart of the Tyr they were meeting stiff resistance on every level but they were an unstoppable force a lot of them had served in the fleet and they wanted revenge for the Resoloute as much as I did.
As soon as they gained control of the ship I had Rider transfer a jump drive to it and sent it to the Redoubt Jump beacon they had also captured most of the crew and I wanted the secured and interrogated to determine who had ordered the destruction of the Resoloute. My vengeance was not yet complete.
I contacted the commander of the Orbital defence station who was obviously still in a state of shock at the devastation I had brought to his till now peaceful sector.
"This is but a taste of what you terrens can expect to come" I warned him, "I have just given you a demonstration that you are not safe that I can and will strike anywhere I choose in what you consider your sectors tell your masters this and consider your self fortunate I choose to let you live".
I stayed in sector for some time demonstrating that I could act with impunity and that I had nothing to fear from their much vaunted fleets.
Teller was relieved when I gave the order to jump to our base in blue horizons where I was surprised to find the Celenteree patrolling the trade lane between the gates.
I contacted our base and learnt that they had accepted an offer of assistance from Xarrisse when a large Terren force had attempted entry to the system whilst I had been enjoying myself in Neptune. I contacted Xarrisse wondering what price I would have to pay for her assistance knowing that her aid did not come without cost.
"Kert it is good to see you again" she said in warm tones as I contacted her ship. "You are quite the celebrity now across the verse thanks to the broadcasts from Neptune".
I hadn't realised Mylene had been transmitting live from the Sword but I should have anticipated it, but I didn't let that show. "I understand you have also been busy Xarrisse you have my thanks of course but why are you here".
"I will speak to you in private Kert without that reporter, suffice to say my father has a message for you".
Xarrisse closed the link and I had no option but to beam aboard the Celenteree Mylene wanted to come with me but I told her bluntly that she would remain aboard the Sword.
She was not pleased of course and made some unpleasant remarks about me consorting with pirates which I made no attempt to correct before I beamed across to meet Xarrisse.
I was greeted warmly on my arrival on board and taken directly to Xarrisse in her command centre.
"Kert you have been busy and gaining increasing popularity amongst the Argon who would take the war to the terrens" she noted as I sat down and waited for her to get to the point.
"My father was most impressed with your most recent actions".
"And what is it your Lord father wish's" I asked suspecting what she was about to say.
"The Tyr is an impressive ship my father does not ask for it but he would like you to allow our shipbuilders access to it. I f you grant this he will give you intelligence you might find invaluable in your dealings with the Split".
"Your father seems remarkably well informed as to my doings Xarrisse what is his interest in Ho t'sht".
"My father became aware of her research some time ago Kert which is why she hid herself so deep in Pirate space suffice to say he watches you with interest, you have been honest in your dealings with us and he hopes this will continue".
I considered what they were asking for to give the Yaki access to terren technology was a risk but they were the most innovative ship designers across the verse they would be more likely to be able to reverse engineer the terren technology than anyone else.
"Alright have the people you want to look at the Tyr here at the station within the Wozura and they will be able to study the ship but I want full access to their work".
"My father said you would demand this and he is agreeable so I will give you this warning Kert the Yaki clan of Hurmilitas Geleon has left Yaki space with her ships my father believes that she worked closely with Chassen and others to attempt to usurp my father as Lord of all the Yaki. It is possible her clan may act against you contrary to my fathers will in the near future he wants you to be aware this is not sanctioned by our people and that if you have to deal with this clan punatively he will not take it as an attack upon us".
"That is not good news Xarrisse your father tells me that I might be attacked by Yaki how are my people to discern which Yaki are not to be fired on in retaliation I would rather not be drawn into a war with the Yaki race but I must allow my people to defend themselves".
"This my Lord father understands he has provided a list of all the ships known to work with Hurmilitas you will be able to identify them as your enemy, further he has ordered all Yaki to identify your ships and stations as allies to the Yaki".
That was a sweeping commitment and one I could not ignore, it also reminded me of Ban Dannar's urging me to resolve the matter of Ho t'sht. That the Yaki were also interested in her research was a surprise but one factor I should have anticipated given the discreet enquirees that had been made on behalf of several corporations what ever Ho t'sht was working on had drawn everyone's attention.
There is one other matter of a personal nature I would discuss with you as I hope a friend Kert your Lady she nears her time and as a mother I know she is torn between her love for you and the child she carries within her, do not take her into conflict with you, she is a warrior born but now you must see to her safety and that of your child. This you must do Kert should all else fail send her to us we will ward your line no matter the cost".
I was stunned by the offer realising that this was the real reason Xarrisse had wanted to speak with me alone it also prompted me to consider Bekka's safety she would stand with me at the gates of hell shouting defiance at the devil with me, to ask her to stand aside from what perils I faced would be impossible.
Xarrisse perhaps understood the dilemma I faced and I listened as she suggested a means to ensure Bekka's safety whilst I pursued the matter the Split or rather Rhonkar himself wanted resolved.

"Not good news from your expression Kert how much did she gouge you for defending this sector".
"No charge Bekka she waived it in consideration of favours owed she did give me some other unpleasant news that we need to discuss alone". my glance towards Mylene who was waiting to ask me questions told her I would say nothing more till we were out of view of the cameras.
"I'll wait for you in our quarters then Kert do not take long" she warned.
I fielded Mylenes questions about my trip to the pirate Brigantine easily enough without revealing anything merely stating that some Pirates were were willing to abide by the guild laws and to offer support against the Terren threat as they had done here.
Then I left her and joined Bekka in our quarters where I would not only have to convince her of the necessity of what I wanted her to do but that she was the only person who I could trust to do it.
Bekka listened carefully as I told her of Xarrisse's warning of the rogue Yaki clan and the threat of imminent attacks on our stations in the commonwealth and of the unwanted interest in the Split bridle that I would have to deal with. She reluctantly accepted the mission I gave her mollified in part by Xarrisses offer to assist her defending our stations.
It was much later as we lay together with my arm stretched over her feeling the pulse of our child's beating heart that I learnt she had not been fooled. "Wherever you are going or whatever you intend to do Kert promise me you will come back do not make our child an orphan". She turned to face me her eyes reaching for mine bright with tears.
I reached out and stroked her face gently wiping away her tears feeling as if I would explode with the passion that burned in my heart. I had no words to say to describe the love I felt for her in that moment.

We enjoyed a quiet breakfast together both of us aware that this might be our last but not speaking of what lay ahead. I wanted to stay here in this moment but Bekka would not allow it, we were obligated to answer the promises we had made and she would not have me fail in meeting them.
"Make me proud Kert"she whispered as I left her alone to make myway to the transport pad where I would beam across to the Tannith for the journey to Rhonkars shipyard where Ho t'sht's prototype ship awaited me.
Cheram joined me as I waited at the boarding hatch to the Acinonyx.
"Not this time Cheram go back to the Tannith and tell Erinn I want her to look after Bekka".
"Sir I have orders".
"Of that I have no doubt Cheram but as a friend I ask you to look after Bekka she will need a friend at her side in the days ahead".
I could see him coming to grips with the the fact I knew I might not return and his duty as he saw it to protect me against my wish for him to protect Bekka, it wasn't fair of me to put that to him but he took it in and saluted wishing me gods speed on my mission and vowing to do as I asked
The Prototype was vastly different from the heavy Dragon it had once been and I was impressed by the design that allowed me to control every aspect of her from the command chair but it was poorly equipped. Ho t'sht had cut corners that I was not comfortable with so on leaving the shipyard I jumped to various equipment docks to get the upgrades that would make
me feel a little more comfortable on its maiden voyage to unknown space.
Ho t'sht was not happy with the delay but I ignored her as I made my way through Maelstrom irritated that she insist I not use the modified jump drive unless absolutely necessary. She might have been comfortable with her status with the Prates but I was not and I had reason to be glad I had
maxxed out the ordinance of her prototype. Even so I was forced to make the jump to Lost Order when the heavies arrived barring my path.
That was when it started to go wrong no sooner had I arrived in sector than the jump drive began initialising a jump on its own I com'd her and demanded she tell me how to shut it down but she seemed as alarmed as I was by the sequence of events she started to send me an override code but I never received it as the ship went elsewhere.
The arrival after jump was ragged and I had alarms screaming for my attention the shields were not just down they had been fried as had most of my weapons and the hull had taken major damage.
I had to go outside to fix the worst of it glad now of the training Jako had given me in ship repairs. The damage was bad and I knew that it would take a miracle for me to make it back from wherever I was.That's when the Xenon showed up and I waited for it to target me as it scanned the ship before it came to a halt not ten metres from me. I felt the rapid beating of my heart as I thought of Bekka and tried to send the love I felt to her across the vastness of space that separated us with my apology for having broken my final promise to her.

The arrival after jump was ragged and I had alarms screaming for my attention the shields were not just down they had been fried as had most of my weapons and the hull had taken major damage.
I had to go outside to fix the worst of it glad now of the training Jako had given me in ship repairs. The damage was bad and I knew that it would take a miracle for me to make it back from wherever I was.That's when the Xenon showed up and I waited for it to target me as it scanned the ship before it came to a halt not ten metres from me. I felt the rapid beating of my heart as I thought of Bekka and tried to send the love I felt to her across the vastness of space that separated us with my apology for having broken my final promise to her.

Bekka staggered as she walked onto the bridge that unnamed dread that had been haunting her for too long tearing at her heart struck her down now and she felt Kert vanish from her sight into darkness. She screamed her denial of that she had feared most and was vaguely aware of people rushing to her side as her eyes saw only emptiness he was gone. Always she had felt his presence no matter where they were in relation to each other now she felt only his absence which cut her like a knife. As if in response to her fears she felt her child move within her but it was too soon.
Xarrisse beamed aboard the Sword as soon as she heard of Bekkas collapse the crew gave her passage to the room where her medics had placed her uncertain of what to do. Leave us we will take care of her Xarrisse announced indicating the women who had accompanied her aboard the sword. These women were trained well in their arts and had been present when her own children had been born. Now they faced a challenge Kert was Lost and Bekka would seek to join him they were soul bound as she was with Che t'nn were it not for the child she would not deny Bekka that final union but she had made promises to him that could not be ignored though she knew Bekka would not thank her for this.
The birth was difficult but the child though born early demanded life Xarrisse placed him on he chest hopping that the child might bring her mind back to her as he suckled blindly at her breast.
Bekka though still seemed lost and lay as one unaware of life "Bekka your child wish's to greet you Kert has a son will you not name him and give him the love that is his right and that Kert would wish. she asked coldly "He may be all you have of to remind you his father".
Bekka heard Xarrisse speak her mind in turmoil still searching for a sense of her beloved finding nothing of him save a spark that quested for her she became aware of the child and was awed by his beauty Kert has a son she realised as she came back to herself letting go of the darkness that had seemed so inviting a moment before.
Xarriasse watched it happen as Bekka opened her eyes to regard her son and thanked the gods Bekka had not let her despair take her into death. Still the matter was not decided, the child was born early and his mother was in despair she decided to act. Take this ship to my fathers home she ordered the Lady Rebekka needs peace and rest.
The Sword jumped for Weavers tempest and on speaking to her father was escorted to her fathers home deep in the sector despite the fact they arrived uninvited. Bekka was taken aboard the station still in her bed escorted by Che t'nn who would ensure her safety and comfort.
Her father demanded her presence once the Sword was docked and Xarrisss knew better than to keep him waiting so after seeing to Bekka she made her way to the grand hall knowing full well that she had rightly earned his wrath.
The hall was in silence as she entered all present knew she had allowed a ship not of the Yaki to enter this sector a ship that whilst docked had the power to lay waste to this sector as had been proven by it's actions in Heretics end.
"Daughter once again I am pleased that you grace us with your presence but some have expressed concern that you allow a warship to enter our space".
"Father I am also pleased once again to stand before you and I would ask your forgiveness in bringing the Sword here unannounced, I believe I acted for the good of the people in doing so our Ally Kert Dannar has been lost and whilst others seek to gain advantage from this I acted to offer what little I could to honour his acts for us I claim sanctuary on behalf of his family".
There was a sudden silence in the great hall as the import of what Xarrisse asked was discussed it invoked the oldest law that none worthy would be cast aside that here amongst the Yaki they would be given a chance to flee from oppression no matter what their race.
"You would place a heavy burden on us daughter I would ask why we should consider it" Hilan asked.
"Because when last we spoke I promised Kert Dannar that if needs must I would ward his line we are in his debt father he has not failed us in any pledges he given us do not ask me to fail in mine".
Hilan considered his daughters words carefully she invoked the oldest law and it was clear she meant to honour her promise to Dannar no matter what he let his pride in her show as he demanded a vote from the Lords assembled here.
The matter was swiftly settled with the lords unanimous in their decision that The Sword be allowed to remain and Xarrisse's pledge to be honoured.

Xarrisse was troubled as she walked the promenade that gave her a view of the sector that was her home. Rebekka had recovered from the early birth of her son but she was strange in her manner refusing to accept that her man was gone this was not a healthy sign nor was it ignored that she had not named her son insisting that Kert would do so when he returned to her.
She was troubled by this she had thought Rebekka stronger. the child at least thrived and Bekka devoted her every waking moment to his care. "You are troubled " Che t''nn noted joining her.
"As ever you see to my heart husband the Lady Dannar troubles me in that she refuses to accept her beloved is lost she has refused to name her son insisting that it is his right alone to do so".
"Would you not insist upon the same Xarrisse".
"This is different beloved if she stays too long in the grip of this madness it will destroy her".
"Not if we are at her side "her husband avowed and Xarrisse was loathe to deny him that hope though she held no such herself. Xarrisse left him there and went to Rebekkas quarters the lady was gripped in some strange dream she was shouting defiance at some unseen foe and Xarrisse accepted that she might be truly lost to them when Rebbekka opened her eyes and pointed to the view port. "He's coming Xarrisse he's coming back to me and his son I told you he always keeps his promises".
Xarrisse thought Rebekka had slipped over the edge to madness till the alarms sounded as a ship jumped into sector almost alongside her fathers house many leagues from the gate.
She recognised the ship at once having observed it as it had left the Split shipyard. it had suffered much since then she realised as she saw the damage it bore clearly visible on its once pristine hull.
she ordered it to be taken into dock and its pilot to be transported to the medical bay. xarrisse left Rebekka alarmed as much by the condition of Kerts ship as what she might find as she made her way to the medical facilities.
"Report" she demanded as she entered the observation deck.
"My lady we are uncertain he has sustained injuries that should have killed him yet he endures it may be the prosthetics that are sustaining him".
"Prosthetics elaborate".
"My lady we cannot this is science beyond our ken we can but hope that he heals himself we dare nothing lest it prevent that occurring".
Xarrisse went down then to sit at his side as he hovered between life and death ignoring the gleaming bones that showed through his hospital garment and the steady progress of his recovery as those bones were once more hidden from view as his body rebuilt it self about his frame. Whatever had happened to him had gone beyond the science her people knew and she wondered if he was even human anymore.

Okay well that was a blow it seems my primary drive which is less than three months old has given up on life. I shall be returning it under warranty but it had most of my game stored on it I shall have to see if I can reinstate my game using the saves I had stored but it is a bitch having to download the complete game files from my steam library yet again. Whilst I only play a vanilla game and don't have to worry about the loss of mods etc it is still a time consuming process.
